A continuation of the thread discussing the Cambridges' contribution to the pandemic.

I see that anti-monarchy movement have gain 3 extra donations in the last 4 weeks. I hope you don't survive on commission

Wtf does this even mean?

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 19:55

Twirlycat - The Royal Standard is only flown at Royal residences when the reigning monarch is in residence. When Princess Diana died the Queen was at Balmoral so there was no flag flying at Buckingham Palace. The Royal Standard is never flown at half mast because when one monarch dies the next one comes to reign.

The Queen reached a compromise by having the Union Flag flown at half-mast on the day of Diana's funeral. It was also flown at half mast on the first anniversary of her death.

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 20:06

@MangoFeverDream clavinova picked out one of the republican campaigns and obsessively monitors its membership numbers and donations, and for some reason equates this to support for the royals.

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 20:24

Great, another useless clapping photo.

Pelleas · 23/04/2020 20:26

There's very limited correlation between the number of members in a republican organisation, and the number of people who'd support a republic - just as the majority of people who vote Tory/Labour aren't actually members of those parties.

Once the Queen is no longer with us, I think a referendum on whether to keep the Royals would have a good chance of going in favour of abolishing the institution. Especially as the effects of Corona-austerity will be with us for decades to come. Taxpayers will want to see value for the inevitable higher taxes we will be paying.

But only because of a public outcry.

Clavinova · 23/04/2020 20:46

I didn't pick it out - a poster on one of the other threads linked to the campaign inviting people to join. Grin

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 20:47

@clavinova i meant you picked it out from the thread

Clavinova · 23/04/2020 20:51

The vote didn't go that way on thread one - 75% thought the op was being unreasonable.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2020 20:54

I'm just glad that now Meghan and Harry have gone that there's no vitriol aimed at them in this manner. If they were here they would want Meghan to be personally going door to door shaking hands without a mask or PPE. What a welcome relief.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2020 20:56

Ooooh though apparently Kate an Wills spoke to the children of key workers. That must have been fun. They chat to the kids who don't actually realise the importance of them but apparently zero action on them helping efforts for the key workers. What a bizarre world.

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 21:01

@Clavinova

Sorry I forgot a MN thread can be used in lieu of a referendum.

CathyorClaire · 23/04/2020 21:05

Look what’s happened to Meghan and Harry when they’ve tried to leave on their own

But they haven't. They originally wanted a half in/half out deal and to be free to endorse royal milk like Peter Phillips. We still don't have confirmation the Frogmore refurb has been reimbursed. We had whining that they're entitled to tax payer funded security as 'internationally protected people' and - as I said in the last thread- they are still very firmly clamped to the royal tit. Even Charles has whinged he doesn't have unlimited funds to support them.

CathyorClaire · 23/04/2020 21:08

Ooooh though apparently Kate an Wills spoke to the children of key workers.

Well that'll be fifteen or twenty 'engagements' Wink

alreadytaken · 23/04/2020 21:20

Didnt bother reading a sour grapes thread wont bother commenting on this again. The Queen and Prince Charles are fairly high risk I know Charles has had the virus but there are suggestions that if it's mild you can get the virus again. So William may be the only one left standing when this runs its course.

He and Kate are doing what other families are doing - home schooling they cant do much of their normal work from home so they are furloughed.

Those who are jealous should consider that Harry doesnt want the job - I wouldnt either.

Pelleas · 23/04/2020 21:20

The vote didn't go that way on thread one - 75% thought the op was being unreasonable.

What Wolfgirrl said - plus, the Queen is still here. For the record, I don't personally think the Queen represents good value for my taxes, but she's amassed a lot of respect by virtue of being around for ages and managing not to have an adulterous divorce/embarrassing drug incident/tampon-themed phone call etc.

This thread is about the younger Royals not pulling their weight, and that's what I think will wake the public up to the irrelevance and obscene extravagance of the institution as a whole.

They’ll have staff for that. They aren’t normal in any sense, so spare the ‘they are just like us’ no one who has been furloughed will have anything in common with these lot. It’s a quite insulting comparison.

Those who are jealous should consider that Harry doesnt want the job - I wouldnt either

He was essentially kicked out, he didn’t want to leave you know, he just wanted to make some money on the side (as if his inheritance wasn’t enough 🙄)

LaurieMarlow · 23/04/2020 21:31

Oh so W&K are ‘furloughed’ now.

I presume that means their monthly income has been capped at £2,500?

And they’re terrified for their long term job security?

Oh, wait .. Hmm

CathyorClaire · 23/04/2020 21:37

they cant do much of their normal work from home so they are furloughed

Arf.

Do you have a source for that?!

LaurieMarlow · 23/04/2020 21:40

I’m all for ‘furloughing’ the royals if the same rules applied to them as everyone else.

But yeah, like that’s gonna happen. Confused

StoneofDestiny · 23/04/2020 21:47

Willy and Kate are furloughed? 😂😂😂😂

Can't believe that was even said 😂😂😂😂

As for the kids - they have tutors and nannies - no way are W&K doing housework, cooking, laundering or supervising their kids while having to worry about their job security. They have many staff for every task going. And we pay for that too.

LaurieMarlow · 23/04/2020 21:48

Can't believe that was even said

I know right? Grin

The shit people come up with is something else.

Clavinova · 23/04/2020 21:50

This thread is about the younger Royals not pulling their weight

That was the title of the vote as well - 75% said the op was being unreasonable.

StoneofDestiny · 23/04/2020 21:53

You would not be eligible for the job - that is the point. It's only for those born into it or married into it. Kind of narrow field - no equal ops involved.

If they don't like the 'job' (job? - really?), they can give it up - and live independently on their millions. Ever wondered why they don't give it up?
Because it's a pampered, privileged life paid for by others, to which they give only what they want - nothing more.

Anybody noticed any difference in anything since Andrew was sidelined? Since Philip slunk off? Since Harry went away?

No difference at all. No gap left, no gap that needs to be filled.

StoneofDestiny · 23/04/2020 21:56

Ooooh though apparently Kate an Wills spoke to the children of key workers

Wow - and that's really worth millions of taxpayers money!

Teachers are talking to the children of key workers ever day - face to face.
