I think Royals moving to remote country houses with minimal staff is actually prudent.

Buckingham, Kensington, St James and Clarence House are more business than leisure, with a lot of other minor royals and office and housekeeping staff milling about, and a lot more security staff.

Moving to remote areas is safer for the RF and everyone around them, plus cheaper.

lyralalala · 27/03/2020 09:37

None of them should have moved anywhere.

Harry and Meghan moving country is irresponsible and selfish. It’s not like they hopped in their car, just the three of them, and drove point-to-point without stopping or risking anyone else.

It would have been selfish and irresponsible if they had flown back to the UK, but at least they’d have had the excuse of Harry - and their team of protection officers - coming home to explain (but not excuse) that.

Charles and Camilla moving, especially as Charles already had symptoms, was irresponsible and selfish. Again they didn’t even go door-to-door as they flew to Aberdeen.

If nothing else it’ll be a reminder to a lot of people that the royals, and rich people who shifted to second home generally believe the rules don’t apply to them.

H and M are tone deaf to how they come across, and it’s baffling that C and C, after years of trying to improve their popularity, would make such an ill-judged move

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 09:38

MM and Harry moved after the Canadian president had instructed people to not move and travel if possible. A country-to-country move presumably involved a fair number of people including security staff for all three. The move is highly unlikely to be because it’s more healthy COVID-wise to be in LA. It’s a highly selfish move.

Yes, agreed.

lyralalala · 27/03/2020 09:40

Charles and Camilla would still have been remote, away from London and with less staff if they’d gone to Highgrove

They’d also be much closer to an ICU, which be handy when you are 71 and showing symptoms of a respiratory condition that is killing people

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 09:45

Lyra but as you said yourself better then anyone, there’s likely to have been reasons for them going there.

MissEliza · 27/03/2020 09:47

Perhaps M and M had to move because whoever owns their Canadian house wanted it back. I agree moving to California at this time is crazy.

EthelMayFergus · 27/03/2020 09:48

I'd just like to point out the length of incubation time for Covid-19 is thought to be about 14 days, and that Harry was with Charles during this time. He must know that makes him high risk, yet off he goes to LA? Unbelievable.

lyralalala · 27/03/2020 09:49

@dandypenguin With Charles and Camilla there is likely to be a reason.

Baffling as to why you’d stick an older, sickening (they’re not psychic so developing symptoms could have gone anywhere) to such a remote location is bizarre unless they know he will never end up on a ventilator.

Which they can only know in a few circumstances

Moving from Vancouver to LA is ridiculous. If it was about not leaving her mother alone, for example, then they have the means to have flown her out (would still have been ridiculous, but at least not a whole team of people).

TimeLady · 27/03/2020 09:49

At least HaMs air miles figures should now reduce.

Vancouver Island I sort of understood. Southern California not so much. I’m not sure Harry’s going to be very happy going for a family hike along the San Andreas fault, avoiding the bushfires, - hardly ‘away from it all’.

Froq · 27/03/2020 09:53

A move to LA, a £3 million build in the Cotswolds - all very nice I’m sure but what we could really do with now is them paying back the froggy renovation costs.

7Penguins · 27/03/2020 09:56

Good point, Froq - if they have 3mil lying around, they need to pay debt first!

Also where have you been? Are you distancing yourself from us? Shock

ajandjjmum · 27/03/2020 09:59

Maybe the owner of the Vancouver Island house wanted their property back, so they could try and keep their own family safe? After all, it started as a 6-week let back in late Nov/early Dec, and we virtually in April!

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 27/03/2020 10:01

Charles may have gone NHS for his test but the heir to the throne is not going to rely on the local hospital for his critical care. There will be a helicopter and fully staffed medical facility on standby. That's if they haven't installed one in his place of residence. (The facilities, not the helicopter...)

DandyPenguin · 27/03/2020 10:02

7 If Froq is distancing herself (himself? Themselves?) then that’s very wise. Some of us have a “diseased ass”. WinkHmm

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 27/03/2020 10:07

Navigator some on here have CV & others may have lost loved ones. It’s not a nice way to talk.

Froq · 27/03/2020 10:09

7 Grin

There wasn’t enough headspace for two irritants in my life so I had to choose between focusing on HaM or the corona.

Little did I know their Instagram had provided all of the information needed in order to battle the virus. What would we do without them?

7Penguins · 27/03/2020 10:09

Re-reading my post, I am daydreaming about having 3mil lying around.

Seriously, the cheek they have to complain publicly!

TheNavigator · 27/03/2020 10:12

This thread is full of unpleasant talk, but only when directed at a blood royal do you start objecting, honestly your inbred deference to royalty is so deep you cannot see the mote in your own eye.

ButteryPuffin · 27/03/2020 10:12

Yes, MM has an elite degree, in theatre. But that’s not what she thinks she’s an expert in.

Agree that this is the problem. Like many celebrities she confuses being able to publicize a cause by way of her profile, with knowing about and having expertise in that cause and the problems behind it.

I don't want to pay for someone who took their clothes off and simulated sex for 'entertainment'

I'm not clear on what this even refers to. People may not rate Meghan's acting skills or career achievements (sure, personal views) but it doesn't seem to me that stripping off and simulating sex was a major part of that. If it had been, she'd certainly never have been allowed into the royal family to start with. If this is about her appearing in a bikini in an ad for whatever it was, that as pp have said is part of the double standard applied to women in the industry, that they have to do to get a career leg up in the first place. As I said, there is plenty else to legitimately judge her for. On a personal level I find Charles's long term infidelity and Philip's consistent bigotry far more morally objectionable. And we're still paying for them, too...

LaMarschallin · 27/03/2020 10:15

Realised that I have no idea what a degree in theatre studies entails.
History of theatre?
Study of plays?
Stagecraft?
Intelligent and meaningful use of language in scripts?
Different from stage school, presumably.

I shall Google.

It'll pass the time in lockdown Smile

Hello, penguins; hope you're all okay

7Penguins · 27/03/2020 10:18

Excellently put.

LaM helloooo!

Parker231 · 27/03/2020 10:20

The RF often talk about topics they have little or no knowledge of. That’s the norm for them. Most aren’t educated at degree level and as they haven’t worked they aren’t experienced in anything.

7Penguins · 27/03/2020 10:23

The RF doesn’t do speeches JP Morgan style.
They usually try and put the focus on their charities and deflect talking too much about themselves. This is from what I’ve seen.

Have you seen WAK or CAC being self-indulgent and in lecturing mode? If so, please link.

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 10:24

Well Charles went to Cambridge and W and K went to St Andrews! I can’t remember about Andrew and Edward. Anne doesn’t have a degree. Zara?

RosesandIris · 27/03/2020 10:26

Charles does speak about things he knows about. He reads widely and speaks to advisors and visits projects . M just shoots her mouth off without engaging her brain. H at least knows something about the Army.
