Video of the Cambridge kids was great. Just clapping, nothing else, is the way to go. Charles and Camilla did the same, I see. Nothing would have stopped Harry and Meghan doing it too, had they wanted.
Off to check out the LA move story

Alspenguin · 26/03/2020 21:55

While!

SussexRoyalPenguin · 26/03/2020 21:59

Well that’s silly. I’m sure Vancouver Island is more covid-free than LA.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 26/03/2020 22:04

I wasn't going to clap tbh, we don't have houses opposite and I didn't think we had any NHS neighbours (been here 30 years) so who would hear it? Then I remembered a newish neighbour who was a doctor and thought it would be worth it just for him.

As it happens there were a few of us out clapping but it did sound a bit thin.

I can see this working in densely populated areas especially where there are apartment blocks or terraced houses, and where people know each other within their community. I can imagine then it would be very powerful. The trouble is, many of us don't live like that.

FiveTwoFaster · 26/03/2020 22:05

Yes but you can’t try to be A list so effectively in Vancouver Island and she does so want to be A List.

I knew they would end up in LA - I just thought they would do Toronto first in a sort of sop to saying her friends were there and it was a commonwealth country. But with LA, her mum is there at least.

7Penguins · 26/03/2020 22:08

Hollywood A list circle is more exclusive and snobby than UK aristos.
MM wouldn’t be accepted as equal even if she snagged Brad Pitt.

ButteryPuffin · 26/03/2020 22:09

The story's very brief but gets across that this was hastened by them wanting to move before the border closed and they were stuck indefinitely on Vancouver Island. I had an idea the border had already closed but presumably not.

RosesandIris · 26/03/2020 22:12

Poor Archie, he must feel quite confused.

7Penguins · 26/03/2020 22:15

Archie should be fine, my baby is same age, Mumsnet Wisdom says children hate change between 1-4 years old, before and after it’s fine Grin

DulciUke · 26/03/2020 22:16

Sorry, to bring up Northwestern again, but I'm catching up on pages of posts. It is more than well-regarded--it is one of the top universities in the U.S. (Ranked 9th).

I thought that they went to L.A. last week. Wasn't there a news snippet (or comment from "friends") that said that they were house hunting in Malibu? I'm waiting to hear how much the house cost, though, to be fair, California in general has extremely high housing prices.

In case the worst happens, I can see the RF asking parliament to change the Regency Act to write him out or make it more flexible as to who is chosen for that role. Though maybe they want it to be cut and dry without any possible family arguing. Rather a moot point, hopefully.

Hoping that everyone who is unwell is starting to feel better.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 26/03/2020 22:17

This is going to be interesting. Because Meghan's LA-ness will really come to the surface once she's on home turf. I'm not sure how much of that side of her personality Harry has experienced in their short relationship.

He's about to try living in her world, which is a million miles away from his.

SussexRoyalPenguin · 26/03/2020 22:19

He is less than a year old. As long as he has ma and pa, his familiar bedding and toys, then he’ll be fine.

RosesandIris · 26/03/2020 22:20

I can imagine Harry on the sun lounger by the pool all day whilst M hustles relentlessly . Also endless celeb friends coming and going. He’s going to be a fish out of water with no role and no purpose.
If they have a nanny he won’t even be parenting Archie much.

7Penguins · 26/03/2020 22:25

Rose the way you describe it I’m picturing an excellent reality tv show - The Actress and The Retired Prince (or The Has-beens 🤐)

RosesandIris · 26/03/2020 22:27

Oh yeah! I can see that.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 26/03/2020 22:29

It is more than well-regarded--it is one of the top universities in the U.S. (Ranked 9th).

That may be so overall, but all degrees are not the same.

BarleylemonPenguin · 26/03/2020 22:29

So, they really are going to be living it up on our dime while we get nothing in return for the outlay? I see...

RosesandIris · 26/03/2020 22:31

Well we're getting endless entertainment I suppose.

7Penguins · 26/03/2020 22:32

I don’t see Boris approving 20mil annually on the security of ex-Royals’ extravagant lifestyle, not after the CV aftermath.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/03/2020 22:40

I thought Meghan was reported to have said that she wouldn't live in the US while Trump was still in the White House ... ?

RosesandIris · 26/03/2020 22:40

Won’t it come from the Duchy estate though?

Winterlife · 26/03/2020 22:41

The story's very brief but gets across that this was hastened by them wanting to move before the border closed and they were stuck indefinitely on Vancouver Island. I had an idea the border had already closed but presumably not.

The border closed this week. A lot of flights have been cancelled, but there are still flights from Canada to the US, just fewer of them. So, even today, they could have flown one way from Vancouver to Los Angeles, $162 economy. Grin

Our daughter is at school in Montreal (3,600 km away), and her flight back is booked for the end of April. Her original flight was cancelled, then the flight they put her on to replace her original flight was cancelled, so now she is on a third flight, which is still in effect. I don't think the last flight will be cancelled.

lyralalala · 26/03/2020 22:43

Won’t it come from the Duchy estate though?

Not for their security bill

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 26/03/2020 22:46

Well quite, 7. Not when we are (quite properly) supporting so many people whose livelihoods have been destroyed by the measures imposed to halt the spread of Covid.

Alspenguin · 26/03/2020 22:47

Taxpayer foots the security bill as things stand
