The reference to Northwestern reminded me of one of the other things I meant to mention a while ago and forgot.
In that Omid Scobie piece about Meghan's last solo royal engagement earlier this month, he wrote:
As their royal patron—a role she took over from the queen in 2019—Meghan will continue to prioritize the organization even after officially stepping back on March 31, especially given her position as the vice president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and a former scholarship student herself. In fact, Meghan’s time at Illinois’s prestigious Northwestern University, where she majored in international relations and theater, is what drew her to the ACU in the first place. source
It says she was a scholarship student and implies that was at Northwestern, because that's the only (post high school) place she studied.
I mentioned ages ago on a thread that I got offered a place at Northwestern decades ago, which I turned down in the end. But knowing of the school I was interesting what scholarship Meghan had there. So I googled. I couldn't find any reference to having a scholarship, but I did find reference to her not having one.
This is an excerpt from a 2018 piece about Meghan on the website of a local magazine based in the Northwestern U area. It was written by a then-current student or fellow alumnae. And it reads:
After getting straight As in her High School graduation exams, Los Angeles-born Meghan was offered three scholarships, but turned them all down to study theater and international relations at Northwestern, where the drama department was renowned for nurturing talent." source
So according to that she didn't have a scholarship at Northwestern, and as the website is part of the Northwestern community, it should be well-placed to know.
Curious.
