More anonymous sources (Daily Mail) claiming that Meghan has told Harry he cannot travel back to see his father. That seems very high-handed, what if the worst happened? In the same article, rather incongruously included, an announcement that they will be fostering a rescue dog. It's a black Labrador. Just seemed odd to construct an article like that!

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 25/03/2020 19:17

Now now Dandy we all know HaM know more than all the experts put together. Grin

KayakingOnDown · 25/03/2020 19:18

Harry and Megs are a diversion from all that's going on, but their latest offering - the faux health advice - has made me livid.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:19

I'd doubt that - there's not really many flights at the moment. The publicity to the wider family if Harry ignored "stay at home" instructions would be damaging.

Plus, without being too morbid, if William becomes King while George is a minor Harry is currently the one in line to be Regent. For that reason if Harry is safely isolated in Canada they'll all much rather he stayed there.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 25/03/2020 19:21

So PC was showing mild symptoms & still went to Scotland? Definitely a reason why? The royals are spread out. I wonder if a credible threat of riots or terror has been received?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 25/03/2020 19:22

And I think that regency act needs amending pdq.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:25

I'm going to sound tin foil hattish here

But if it was about civil unrest surely they'd have moved William, Kate and the children to the most remote place?

They're the youngest and the fittest.

Balmoral and Birkhall are isolated. Health services in Grampian are stretched, and are likely to be stretched more because a high number (per head) on Shetland have it and Aberdeen is where they'd be flown to.

You wouldn't move an already unwell 71 year old to the most remote place. It makes no sense, unless they somehow know he absolutely won't need medical help.

Either because Balmoral has facilities set up already, or because he's already ill or because he's not a candidate for ventilation due to underlying health issues that we're unaware of.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:26

And I think that regency act needs amending pdq.

I don't want Harry removed. Remove Harry and next in line to be regent is Andrew

For any mistakes that Harry has made he's still a considerably better choice than Andrew

BelleharePenguin09 · 25/03/2020 19:28

This is morbid. 🙁

MissEliza · 25/03/2020 19:34

I agree @lyralalala . For that reason I don't think he went up to Scotland because he was ill.

DulciUke · 25/03/2020 19:37

Sorry, I know it's morbid, but Harry could only become regent if he returns to the UK. After him it's Andrew (shudder) and after Andrew, it's Beatrice.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:42

Harry could only become regent if he returns to the UK.

I think that's why there was originally such a push of "Frogmore will still be their home"

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:44

@MissEliza They've announced he went when he had mild symptoms. So he went knowing he was ill.

Which is bizarre

DandyPenguin · 25/03/2020 19:45

Maybe Balmoral has a whole secret mini hospital hidden inside.

MissEliza · 25/03/2020 19:46

Really? That's a silly thing to do. Don't royals have their own personal doctors to advise them.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:50

Yes, they said on the BBC news that they left for Balmoral on Sunday while he had mild symptoms and he was tested on Monday

Maybe Balmoral has a whole secret mini hospital hidden inside.

Operating theatre I'd bet they do have, but ventilators? For at least two as there's a good chance Camilla will catch it from him if they've not been isolating from each other and she's a known heavy smoker and has had multiple chest infections over the years

DandyPenguin · 25/03/2020 19:51

Who knows. There’s definitely something we’re not being told.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 19:53

Not in a way to link the two, but we also haven't been told today how many people died in England in the last 24 hours.

It's the first time we haven't been told and none of the journalists asking questions at the PM's press conference asked about it

Today is a strange day for information, or lack thereof

SenecaFallsRedux · 25/03/2020 19:56

The Regency Act could be amended to let Kate be regent. There is precedent; it was amended to allow Prince Philip to be regent instead of Princess Margaret when Charles was a minor. Of course a big difference is that Philip was royal by birth and in the line of succession himself (although far down), but I don't think that aspect would be a consideration today.

DandyPenguin · 25/03/2020 19:58

Interesting Lyra. And discomforting.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 20:01

@senecaFallsRedux In a way it would be interesting (hopefully it won't happen!) to see how the public would react to Kate as regent

I just can't see people, especially some in government, accepting it like they did Philip. I think the fact he was royal and also the fact that he was replacing Margaret meant it went by with only a little objection.

I think the royals would have to be careful about the whole "commoner" thing. Especially if she isn't Queen. It's a funny one.

At the moment if Charles is ill then with the Queen's age they'll be guarding Harry (and sadly probably Andrew in case Harry says no) carefully as it wouldn't be the time for anything royal to go into parliament for amendment

SenecaFallsRedux · 25/03/2020 20:08

@lyralalala Interesting points. And it really underscores how this notion of Meghan telling Harry he can't go see his father is likely total BS. William won't be heading up there to see him either. I think it likely that the separation of the various heirs and potential regents is being coordinated for many of the reasons you and others have stated.

Inspiralcarpetry · 25/03/2020 20:08

I'd accept Kate as Regent over any of the others in theory. I'd like to see Wiliam and Kate become King and Queen (although I'd be sad if Queenie died)
The others are a nightmare.
Has anyone seen Fergie wading in on the Coronavirus commentary? Silly cow commenting when like H&M, they should stfu about things thet don't understand...

MissEliza · 25/03/2020 20:11

Btw Charles isn't at Balmoral. He has his own home not too far away. I can't remember the name of it.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 20:13

@SenecaFallsRedux I agree with the separation of the heirs will be in place.

I just find it bizarre the the 71 year old man with mild symptoms and his 72 year old wife, who has struggled to get over chest infections, are the ones who've gone to the Scottish highlands.

If it was just about separation then it would make far more sense to have sent William, Kate and the children to Scotland, then Charles and Camilla could have gone to Highgrove or Sandringham

I wouldn't actually be massively surprised if the fact that the official reporting is that William and Kate are at Kensington, but the children have been spotted at Anmer is because William and George are being kept apart until they see how Charles gets on.
