Somewhere to discuss the Sparkly headwear if the royals to avoid taking the other thread off topic too much!

There Rundell would be my tiara of choice

hello! I have no actual knowledge of tiaras, apart from the cheapo ones in Claire's Accessorie, but i do love a bit of bling, esp with actual photos...

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 23:07

Hello, I’m off to bed now but will participate tomorrow 👑

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 23:16

Hello, have come over for sparkles!

Started checking out Tiarapedia as recommended on the other thread. I really quite like this first one, though I can see their point that it's a bit Marmite!

Tiarapedia does ask you not to copy text or images, I notice, so that's why the link.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 23:17

Neither do I, but I just looked up the girls of great Britain and Ireland and the history leading up it was fascinating. I think Margaret resembles Queen Mary quite a bit.

I can’t believe there is a tiaraopedia!

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 23:23

Tiarapedia is somewhere that you should always have a drink while you click because a 'quick look' will become a long time without you noticing!

I've been lurking on the other thread googling images of tiaras like mad. Whilst I don't think they're really my thing (headbands hurt behind my ears too much - and I'm not big on bling) I would definitely (and with the utmost respect to the woman herself - and her fabulous taste in tiaras ) trip Princess Eugenie up and snatch hers right off her head.

It is truly beautiful and elegant - and she looked beautiful and elegant wearing it. She's my new favourite royal based entirely on her amazing tiara game.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 23:41

Have more to look at yet, but agree with whoever said on the other thread that Sophie Wessex got a raw deal with her wedding tiara. It's not much cop. The Queen must be rueful now that Sophie has proved to be one of her more reliable family members.

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 23:48

@butterymuffin That was me

Sophie's wedding tiara was just rubbish. Of all the things the Queen could have given her.

It looks much, much better now it's been remodelled, but I think she should have been given something nicer.

She gets a raw deal imo. The five aquamarine tiara might have chunky stones, but it doesn't suit someone that doesn't have a poufy hairdo. It just looks like five stones on a wire.

The necklace tiara is a necklace. It doesn't convert to tiara well at all imo.

Given how trusted she is hopefully she'll get something that actually suits her at some point

I couldn't agree more - it looks so sparse and odd! The wire frame is always very visible.

There are still a few lovely smaller tiaras in the royal collection that aren't much worn - like the Strathmore Rose. I wonder why Sophie wasn't given a nicer one?

My first link (tech idiot).

Swedish royal family tiara, so sparkly...

lyralalala · 23/02/2020 00:00

It looked much better at the US state banquet with the bits pushed together

Apparently the Strathmore Rose was always very delicate. Rumour is it's either unusuably fragile, or has been broken up. Hopefully not broken up as that would be criminal

OP posts:
Cohle · 23/02/2020 00:07

Oh it would be a shame if it's been broken up.

It does seem a shame Sophie's tiara was so lacklustre though (although I agree it's been looking better recently, rearranged). Especially when you consider that Fergie had one bought for her. I suppose it demonstrates how responsive the Royals have to be to the prevailing public
mood.

Star
lyralalala · 23/02/2020 00:15

There is a train of thought that Sophie's tiara was made from pieces of a circlet belonging to Queen Victoria. So it could be that the bits had tasty provenance, but they made a thoroughly naff tiara. Whoever let Edward design it shouldn't be Sophie's friend!

It would be interesting to know where the diamonds came from for the new base. New things, and reworks, are exciting, but I always worry it's the death knell for something else

Registering for tiara talk.

I need to see pictures so will google tomorrow.

DandyRaven · 23/02/2020 00:56

And thank you OP for starting the thread 👸🏼

DandyRaven · 23/02/2020 00:56

Actually for this thread I’m going to be ...

DandyDiamond · 23/02/2020 00:57

Ta-da.

7Worfs · 23/02/2020 07:03

Sophie currently has three tiaras - the wedding loan, additional loan, and one bought by Edward

When she becomes Duchess of Edinburgh and as she gets more recognition for her work, I hope she’s loaned better jewellery and clothes budget.

Butterymuffin · 23/02/2020 08:23

I'm not wild about any of Sophie's tiaras, though I like the central aquamarine one best. Yes, hope she gets access to some of the nicer ones.

The Greville tiara isn't to my taste Smile but it does really suit Camilla. The horizontal pattern works well with her hairstyle. Not surprised that seems to be her standard.

BahMooQuack · 23/02/2020 08:31

Ooh a tiara thread!

7Worfs · 23/02/2020 08:53

Yes, Camilla really pulls off those big tiaras ( Delhi Durbar and the honeycomb Greville).

If you haven’t read about the Greville bequest, it’s a really interesting story.

mrscampbellblackagain · 23/02/2020 09:17

Sophie has definitely drawn the short straw regarding tiaras.
