I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

With regard to tea towels (I have a Sandringham tea towel so they do exist), the merch is connected to the house in exactly the same way as stately homes. This is why you can buy Highgrove honey, Buckingham Palace face cloths, Sandringham Christmas tree decorations and Royal Palace (ie Hampton Court and KP) biscuits. The merch supports the upkeep of the house as a PP mentioned.

If they’d waited, they could have been chatelains of Highgrove themselves and completely milked the kefir market.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 14:10

Theakston Old Peculiar may feature in a certain blog... just sayin'.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 14:10

ooh go we've got some Sandringham tree decs, bought for the children by the inlaws. They are beautiful, but too bloody heavy.

GoFiguire · 19/02/2020 14:11

And Buckingham Palace are playing the long game. The moral of this story, girls and boys, is don’t fuck with The Men In Suits.

GoFiguire · 19/02/2020 14:14

What did you get yolo? I have a crown. A veritable gold crown. And I have two plant pot holders in the shape of a crown as well. I saw hat on Prince Philip’s desk in the entrance and thought i’m having that but I didn’t need to steal it as they sell them in the shop.

annielouise · 19/02/2020 14:16

I don't have any royal merchandise but do have a nodding-head doll of Pope Francis. Before anyone accuses me of sacrilege it was bought in a Vatican gift shop.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 14:17

We have a glass parcel with 'gold' ribbons and I cant remember the other one now... did you buy the hat go? We also have Anne Boleyn and another one from the Tower of London. Eclectic mix of shit on our tree.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 14:18

class annie. We have a collection of fridge magnets (which wont stick on the fridge) which includes Romeo & Juliet on a moped, from Verona.

annielouise · 19/02/2020 14:21

I like the sound of that fridge magnet Grin

After Go

I posted that this morning Brie I’d love to know how accurate it is. What do you think?

drina27 · 19/02/2020 14:28

It just makes M out to be more of a hustler than I thought and H more stupid than I thought and both more arrogant than I thought.

Yes.

DivinationDandy · 19/02/2020 14:31

I’ve just read that marketing blind.

Interesting that the word Disney is bang in the middle of the accompanying graphic. Not that there’s any doubt who the blind is about!

drina27 · 19/02/2020 14:39

I agree also with the poster to said the prince is not a particularly nice person. All the gadding about when he was younger and pretending to be a non Royal was okay for a while. People seemed to buy it. It’s only relatively recently that he hasn’t been able to keep up the charade.

Prince William is definitely more genuinely likeable, in my opinion. Kate, does, of course, have a great deal to do with that...But as a person, he seems more grounded and self aware. He and his brother are poles apart.

Grin that’s so funny

I’ve been wondering if Harry is easily led. I get the feeling he doesn’t have a very strong sense of his own identity. I remember listening to him give some sort of speech a few years ago where he was using the word ‘ain’t’, obviously trying hard to be trendy and ‘down with the kids’. It just sounded so cringeworthy. A bit like using the word ‘gotten’.
I think he’s absolutely desperate to be normal, but he really can’t ever be normal. I read about him putting on a Canadian accent to a shopkeeper on Vancouver island, imagining he could blend in. It’s quite sad really. It would probably be possible for them both to live quiet and private lives away from the spotlight if they really wanted to. He does but she doesn’t. She needs to trade on his family connections, he wants to leave all that behind. I can’t see any way it can work to their mutual satisfaction and happiness. I imagine he will be giddy with the new found freedom for a couple of years, and then the reality of their situation will dawn. He is the prize exhibit and she is the ringmaster. He will get tired of having his rope pulled and having to dance, just to feed her insatiable desire for fame and fortune.

DivinationDandy · 19/02/2020 14:57

I think Harry does have genuine charm and is probably a lot of fun when he’s relaxed and happy. But I think he’s probably very selfish and out for the adoration doing some of the mental health stuff for the public glory. I base this opinion partly on what someone I know told me a few years ago pre- his marriage. They are a health professional who was in a position to know having worked with him and is someone who’s opinion I completely trust and respect. They said W&K were more genuine.

Of course people’s intentions and personalities can change as they have kids or go through certain circumstances, but this is my prevailing view of Harry. I think it’s pertinent he’s focusing so much on mental health and speaking about it. It gives someone cover from criticism to a certain extent. Whatever his motivations though, if his speaking about raises awareness and shines a light on good initiatives then that’s overall that’s very good.

I completely agree with a PP (annie I think?) that he should have done the mental health doc with an English production company and presenter or at least a co-production. it features UK work after all. Unless of course they tried that and couldn’t get the funding. I think it very much shows how they’ve been thinking globally and US-focused for a while.

Suss Ex- Royal

Excellent *Words Grin. If that hadn’t already been done by a tabloid, I expect it will be now.

I think she thought being a royal meant living the life of ultimate luxury in the realms of an arab shiek or beyonce, I think once she realised there are a lot of rules and traditions to being a royal and you cant live the life of luxury and spend what you want and go to hollywood parties etc she is now trying to use the royal connection (without being a royal) to live the life she was expecting. I dont think she realised the public backlash she would get once it was realised she was just pretending!

annielouise · 19/02/2020 15:13

They're very much living in an unreal situation and lifestyle. H doesn't have his extended family around him to keep him grounded and feeling secure. They're flying solo now in a way, nowhere is 'home', nothing seems permanent, the people around them aren't the people they've perhaps become familiar with and can trust (unless they do have some old-time staff with them), people that H especially would have a rapport with in the RF that have known him years who he can seek advice from, even off the cuff, aren't now available to him, not least with the time difference. It's not a recipe for stability and making wise moves.
