I go away for the weekend and thread 17 disappears Shock

March isn’t too far away now. Will we see their return for the commonwealth service?

Have they found a new home yet?

Will they make an appearance at Beatrice’s wedding?

I think it would have looked better for H&M to have done a Scunthorpe type visit tbh- it would have made them look more relatable. But I’m not certain that’s the look they are going for..

CallmeAngelina · 19/02/2020 20:40

I would love to see a complete media blackout of their engagements when they're here in March.

Fuck 'em. Angry (and I Have always considered myself a bit of a royalist)

MissEliza · 19/02/2020 20:42

@CallmeAngelina me too! Don't give them the oxygen of publicity.

7Worfs · 19/02/2020 20:46

I want to see them succeed, but on their own merit.

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/02/2020 21:00

The 'at least' six engagements, before they officially step back, are:

  • the Duke attending a recording session with rock star Jon Bon Jovi and the Invictus Games Choir at the end of Feb
  • the Duchess 'will be marking International Women's Day' a week
  • the Endeavour Fund Awards
  • the opening of Silverstone Experience
  • the Mountbatten Music Festival
  • the Commonwealth Service 9 March

Also, PH at London Marathon in April, and opening of Invictus Games in May (in capacity as patron for both, not royal engagements, but there's not going to be a perceptible difference, is there?)

StubbleTurnips · 19/02/2020 21:05

I would understand if M didn’t like it here - and not due to the media, which IMO is an easy excuse. Not often you’ll hear me say this, but it is hard uprooting and moving elsewhere for a person. I did it from one side of the country to the other. I did feel a real dislike for my new region for a long while, I would understand it M felt that way. Add a newborn into that, where you aren’t necessarily able to Bob to local classes to meet people. Frogmore must have been isolating. I get it, but equally don’t think it was given the best chance to embrace the UK.

I wonder how H is getting on in Canada, in a similar vein.

CallmeAngelina · 19/02/2020 21:15

I wonder how H is getting on in Canada, in a similar vein.

Well, he's going to have to just get on and lump it (or California, when they end up there as, I believe, has long been the plan) or his marriage goes right down the pan. She sure as hell won't countenance coming back to the UK.

CallmeAngelina · 19/02/2020 21:16

And as for all this shit about them "dividing their time between North America and the UK," what that means is 11 months of the year there and a couple of visits back here when they have to.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 21:25

I mean, is that list SERIOUSLY supposed to represent a "working Royal"? Tell that to Anne, or Sophie and I would imagine they would snort with absolute derision. Give me a break, honestly...

Blind Item #12

They can say what they like, but the alliterate one is holding firm to no appearances in the UK at all. Her husband will show up, but only if there is not a conflict with a paying gig.

froq do you have a link? sorry to be a pain but I find BG impossible to navigate...
thank you.

Butterymuffin · 19/02/2020 21:43

The bit about how much they're loving 'walking the dogs' and 'hiking with friends' reminds me of those episodes you get of Wanted Down Under where they go out for a walk together and beam about how nice it is to get out for family time outdoors, when they're doing something they could easily have done in the UK if they'd chosen to. One thing the Royals seem to be able to spend plenty of time doing is walking dogs and spending time in the great outdoors. It's practically a religion for them with all the long stints in the country, summers at Balmoral and so on. If those were the things they really wanted to do, they could have done them easily at the various royal estates, and the one Charles supposedly wanted to set them up in on the Welsh borders. So it's nice that they're enjoying this 'homebody' lifestyle, but I still think they're kidding themselves - and/or the general public about what kind of new life they are really aiming for.

Froq · 19/02/2020 21:44

Sure, yolo. It’s crazy days and nights:

It’s the first one on the list.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 21:52

thanks froq.

buttery yes it is entirely possible to do all those outdoorsy things in the UK, and in fact the RF seem to have been bred to enjoy them. And its not as if they are short of space to do that without having to contend with the paps... oh wait.

Triglesoffy · 19/02/2020 22:20

yolo. What happened to the journalist in the hot air balloon Shock

rockingchaircandle · 19/02/2020 22:30

In the interest of balance, this is useful. Good to see recognition of the abuse towards Meghan

newsweek.com

It's important to realise the impact of media abuse (both traditional and social) can go far beyond the original victim.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 22:33

triggles he survived and thrived! And turned up to our Xmas party that year wearing an enormous badge saying "XXXXXX Balloon Survivors Club". And my boss was at the hairdressers the following w/e where all the talk was about the massive power outage - funnily enough she stayed quiet!

OVienna · 19/02/2020 22:36

Very satisfying the SussexRoyal brand's got to go. Not because I wish the couple ill, it's the scuppering of the Yank advisors' advice I am finding hysterical.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 19/02/2020 22:48

rocking imo it would have been better to compare the press coverage of the 2 women at similar stages of their marriage. Kate didn’t have an easy ride at the beginning either. Not as bad as Fergie but it wasn’t a walk in the park. Not that it’s right either way.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 19/02/2020 22:59

Yes that aspect is extremely satisfying OVienna. Agreed!

What on earth made them think an American PR firm would have better grasp of the situation than their UK based advisors within BP??

Living in Canada but hiring an American PR firm to handle stuff pertaining to stuff dealt with while in UK and ignoring UK advisors.Confused

Wauden · 19/02/2020 23:09

Funny how they blame the media often. Eg the fact that Princess Diana was allowed by Dodi Fayed to be driven by a driver who had been drinking alcohol that evening and had taken pills against medical advice. Plus she was not wearing a seat belt.
I suppose that is too upsetting for Harry to accept, perhaps he can't cope with that, fair enough, and it is his way of coping to blame the media.

yolofish · 19/02/2020 23:10

I used to do (actually still do) a fair bit of international PR. In every case, it was the role of head office to define the strategy, set the guidelines, and then TELL THE COUNTRIES they must use a local PR agency.

Being anglophone is not enough, you have to actually understand the mentality and the real language of the country where you're doing the work. Then, you get the client/agency to treble check that what you are saying/doing is in line with the core strategy.

Then you can do it, but there are still fuck ups.

It seems to me as if M has driven this - the choice of agencies etc - from the start, and H doesnt actually know/understand enough about it to make a difference.

FizzyLimes · 19/02/2020 23:29

The best advice they got was the organisation of the Africa tour.
Until they made their bombshell announcement that they were suing the press, on the last day ( to ensure maximum exposure) they were getting great feedback.

MissEliza · 19/02/2020 23:34

If H and M love the outdoor lifestyle so much why didn't they join the rest of the family In Balmoral last summer? I don't think the Highlands are very different to Canada- except for the midges.

GoFiguire · 20/02/2020 00:41

My conspiry theory, which is totally made up, is that all the women who can (MM, Autumn Philips and Serena Snowdon) are all jumping ship to get out of the Prince Andrew shitfan. Sophie and Kate are stuck within the fold to pick up the pieces. All made up lies, of course.
