Thanks to MrsHuggett for the thread title.

Maybe attending the Lion King vs RM was about attending a relatively low profile event vs a high profile event in which they could do more good for their charities overall?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 12:18

She has held the rank of Admiral and Chief Commandant of Women in the Royal Navy

Really?!

TwentyViginti · 20/01/2020 12:20

Mail says Edward, Sophie and Anne are co-hosting tonight’s Buckingham Palace reception, alongside William

Ah, that seems a sensible line up.

ElloBrian · 20/01/2020 12:20

Looks like heading up the Marines was previously a job for the monarch, before it went to Prince Philip. So I guess William will take it on.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 12:25

Interesting take appleness we'll see, although I do think all the emphasis on H as a little boy following his mother's coffin is over-emphasised. He's a grown man now.

But who knows? Time will tell.

strictlymomdancing · 20/01/2020 12:26

Anne does enough already!

What about Tim though? Could he help?

NumbersStation · 20/01/2020 12:27

I would regain respect (or some) for the breakaway faction only if they step back and go below radar for a few months to allow the RF time to gather themselves, regroup and get on with things. Which they seem to be doing this evening.

They need to get back to their normality without any headline grabbing detracting from that.

Absolutely PH and MM need to make a living but I could do without seeing them in the press every two minutes.

TwentyViginti · 20/01/2020 12:30

We on these threads have been called a 'coven' on the PM thread.

As a pagan, I'll take it! Grin

peridito · 20/01/2020 12:30

Wendy as said ,many of the more extreme posts have been deleted ( not reported by me btw ) so my selection is of course not representative .

Though you may have a point - "heavily" is too subjective an adjective ,maybe repeatedly would have been better .

Slightly odd to ask someone for quotes and then mock them for providing them .Though yes ,I agree I am lucky to have free time ,though sometimes it's because I have to lie down due to health issues and that's not so lucky .

*Actually you said heavily castigated. I don't believe any of the examples you gave match that description. So we will have to agree to disagree on that. They're just fairly bland responses to repeated attacks^.

Thanks for taking the time to scroll the entire thread to find them though. That must have kept you busy this morning and it's great that you have the free time to do so smile

DandyAndFine · 20/01/2020 12:31

We are not anti-Meghan so much as anti-anyone who is disrespectful to the Crown and HM Queen

This comment ^^ doesn't speak for me, and I'm saying that not to be snarky but to make a wider point, so bear with me.

Meghan aside, who I'm neither anti- nor pro-, I'm personally anti-monarchy. I hold neither the Crown nor HM Queen in high regard. So I find it interesting to read @Spectatorortheweek 's post from a military and therefore pro-Crown viewpoint.

Even without coming from this perspective I thought that Harry ditching the military event to go to the Lion King premiere was bad form and his pitching comments terribly crass and inappropriate. But given the worldview in which he's been raised, to put the military and duty and the Crown before everything, it's even more out of order that he acted as he did. He betrayed his value system and let down the people he represented. And by doing that I personally think he was showing his real self.

So in conclusion, for the avoidance of doubt, if I'm anti anyone here it's Harry. I certainly don't think he's a victim. He's the one with the longstanding relationships and the responsibilities.

GoFiguire · 20/01/2020 12:35

Will no one think of the bananas?

Froq · 20/01/2020 12:41

From People:

“Meghan Markle's mother Doria Ragland has described her daughter as 'strong' and said she will 'always be okay'”

... does that mean we no longer need to ask if she’s ok?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 12:45

It's hardly a proper coven if you don't have any initiation rites. There's no candles or torches for a starters. And you need a high priestess.

What about Tim though? Could he help?

Surely he'll have to?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 12:46

I agree with Doria on that one.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 12:47

Just saw a talent advisor or some such on Sky News now saying that they are possibly worth a billion dollars.
Netflix have expressed an interest in them.
It's interesting to watch this all play out tbh.
Very interested to see how North American media cover them.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 20/01/2020 12:47

I'm not anti anyone. I am just finding this a fascinating discussion and having been in a toxic relationship myself I am struck by the patterns playing out on such a public platform.

bohemia14 · 20/01/2020 12:49

I've just been thinking about this again. If it's really about Meghan not being able to cope with the press then why didn't just she step down from being a 'senior royal' and be a full time mum. Harry could have carried on with his duties and patronages as normal and they could have lived in privacy at Frogmore with the odd photo shoot of Archie to keep the people and the public happy. That would have been a win win for both of them.

Unless of course their motivations are different?

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 12:49

We can expect to see a lot less about them in British media. I don't think Sky or BBC can afford to have a full time royal correspondent stationed in Canada, so they'll be dependent on buying footage from local news sources I would have thought. Which is quite a relief in one way!

DandyAndFine · 20/01/2020 12:49

@Froq Grin

Hm now there's a modern etiquette question. I'm not sure if a maternal comment counts as a lifetime disclaimer on the 'I'm OK front'. It probably needs to come direct from the source? (I'd say the horse's mouth but don't want to be accused of being rude and calling MM a horse.) We need to consult Debrett's.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 12:50

why didn't just she step down from being a 'senior royal' and be a full time mum

Because she has ambition and wants the limelight I suspect. Couldn't see her being happy being a SAHM.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2020 12:51

If it's really about Meghan not being able to cope with the press then why didn't just she step down from being a 'senior royal' and be a full time mum.

Yeah, because the press would let that one go without any spite and bile 🙄

notmoresheep · 20/01/2020 12:51

interesting link appleness. contrasts starkly with the inappropriate and thoughtless timing of their announcements. the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

How long before Pizza Express offer them £££ to do an advert? (yes a dig at Andrew, but Gorbachov did one for Pizza Hut so not beyond the realms of possibility).

itwaseverthus · 20/01/2020 12:51

I read in the Telegraph I think that the tax payers funded the 30 million pounds security bill for their wedding which was two minutes ago. We have a right to be angry we funded that only for them to flounce off to Canada or America and relinquish royal duty.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 12:52

Yeah, because the press would let that one go without any spite and bile 🙄

Well Kate is mainly a SAHM/part-time royal.
