Harry and Meghan Resigning (Act 6 Scene 2) Is Everyone Okay?

This is Thread Eight in a series which I did not imagine would last more than one.

Meghan's friends are now writing on social media that she has been fortunate to "escape the clutches" of the Royal Family.

We, who care enough for the Queen that we are appalled by Meghan's blatant disrespect for the Crown (and the family which embraced her) are still reeling as we go from revelation to revelation. This bizarre and unprecedented situation has unfolded over a period of just eight days.

We are now beginning to see what Meghan's likely agenda was. It seems that abandoning the UK was her plan even prior to the wedding - a wedding which cost the British people £20,000,000.

Not many people actually begrudged paying that £20,000,000. But some were prescient enough to say that the marriage would not last and that Meghan would abandon this country once she had a child.

She has. She has fulfilled those prognostications amply.

It was just rather...quicker than perhaps we had imagined...…. and a good deal more brutal. Cries of "racism" have abounded - cries which are simply not justified.

What will happen next? Meghan has gone to Canada, a country which does not seem particularly keen to foot the huge bill for security which her presence requires. She is dropping in on charities for disadvantaged women, almost unannounced, without the backing or knowledge of Buckingham Palace. It is cringeworthy and embarrassing in the extreme.

Prince Harry seems to be lost in the maelstrom of public opinion. What will happen next? Will Meghan announce a second pregnancy?

And is the RF okay?

I wondered if the first weddings were different and that's why ie Charles and Camilla had both been married in a church so had to opt for a civil ceremony. But I don't think either of M's first two marriages were in churches so she could have a church service? Or is that only a RC tradition? Confused

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 21:50

@eggandonion

Charles and Camilla could have married in church but it was felt that the more low-key their wedding was, the better. So they opted for a civil ceremony in a register office followed by a blessing in church.

Harry and Meghan were younger and more popular than Charles and Camilla.

There was genuine fear that PC and Camilla would be booed if there was a big fuss about their wedding. Many, many people were outraged by their adultery and as Princess Diana had been so very popular it isn't difficult to see why they chose a ceremony which was as quiet as possible.

Just wondering if you’ve seen this article, apologies if it’s been posted before.

Yes. It was posted a few threads ago and talked about. There is a lot of context missing from a few of those sound bites/headlines.

crispysausagerolls · 17/01/2020 21:54

Although actually in fairness to Meghan, I think she has a very difficult figure to dress - she very often looks badly dressed in unflattering outfits, I think it’s Becuase she is incredibly slim with no waist so quite boxy.

Would not expect that from a couture dress though.

yolofish · 17/01/2020 21:54

i thought Meg's dress was absolutely stunning, very difficult to carry off something so plain IMO and she did it very very well. Diana - crumpled; Fergie: OTT and a bit of a Diana rip off as I remember; Eug: beautiful. Camilla looked amazing. Seem to remember one of them, cant remember the name, but she was a brand ambassador for Armani? Sarah Linley? she looked stunning too. Kate was beautiful, and I think her dress for a future queen more fitting than Meg's would have been.

anyway, I am very OK as DH made a beautiful risotto tonight and I have had Wine

Froq · 17/01/2020 21:56

I’d definitely buy Meg’s ‘How to bag a man’ book.

She mentioned in an article during her jobbing days that she has magical breasts. I guess that’s step number 1.

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 21:57

Princess Margaret's wedding dress was wonderful. Understated elegance.

Lady Helen Taylor was a brand ambassador for Armani I think . Her dress was beautiful but my absolute favourite was Lady Sarah Chatto’s dress (? Think it was Jasper Conran).

TheMustressMhor · 17/01/2020 21:58

What the fuck are magical breasts?

Lots to catch up on. I didn't like Meghan's conscious Hallmark simpering at the engagement interview, but thought the wedding was beautiful.
Feel so sorry for W and K. They now have the remainder of their lives in service without Harry's support or share of the load. Their kids will have no close royal cousins.
There must be heaps of Andrew's patronages unfilled, now Harry and Meghan's, and the Queen is probably trying to divest herself of a few (at 93!).
It's a seriously understaffed organisation at the senior level with the succession plan in tatters.

Expat1986 · 17/01/2020 22:00

I suspect Meghan could marry in a church because she was Jewish for her first wedding.

As it was a Jewish ceremony it doesn't count as being married in the eyes of the Church of England. So she's technically never been married or divorced.

Not sure where I got the idea from though!

crispysausagerolls · 17/01/2020 22:01

The deal or no deal photo a thread or so back show that the magical breasts are as fake as her nose

yolofish · 17/01/2020 22:02

ah maybe I am confusing Helen Taylor and Sarah Chatto - thank you gonegrey.

mustress do you not have magical breasts then? I AM sorry, are you ok about that? (mine are clearly not magical as did not do what they are apparently designed to do postchildbirth, but my DDs appeared to survive and possibly even thrive!)

Londonmummy66 · 17/01/2020 22:02

@GuytheBeagle - if it doesn't work out with the cat I know a couple that like dogs and would sympathise with your feelings of abandonment. Could you get on with a corgi?

Lunde · 17/01/2020 22:02

In 2005 when Charles and Camilla married - the remarriage of divorced people in CoE churches was still controversial. It had only been possible since 2002 and many Anglicans were still opposed to the idea. There was also the Diana issue - and public opinion still being strong about C&C cheating on their spouses. It was pretty noticeable that HM did not attend the civil ceremony.

I remember that Charles originally wanted to get married in one of the Halls at Windsor Castle - however the risks of getting it licenced as a wedding venue was that others could demand to marry there ... so they chose the local registry office instead.

However with T&M - 12 years later - the controversy over remarriage had lessened.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 22:05

I thought Meghan got married on a beach in Jamaica for her first wedding?
Anne married in Scotland the second time because she was a divorcee. It does seem strange that M and H married in church with a big fanfare. I just think they wanted H to have the full works.

Butterymuffin · 17/01/2020 22:05

Charles being the head of the church of England was also reason to tread cautiously around having a church wedding as I recall.

Wheresthebeach · 17/01/2020 22:05

Eugene's dress was wonderful, and that tiara was perfect for her. Thought Kate looked lovely, but MM's dress didn't seem to fit properly although she's is, frankly so gorgeous she can pull anything off!

Planeplane · 17/01/2020 22:06

I did have quite nice breasts...not sure they were magical exactly but I misplaced them a couple of years ago somewhere around Russells Hall Hospital and they've not been seen since... pregnancy did not agree. I'm ok though, I'm sure you're all glad to know.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 22:07

So M has magical breaststroke and legs that go on for miles. Not one for humility is she? She’s got an ego the size of Canada.

kinsss · 17/01/2020 22:07

Look, my claim to fame is that the guy who fixed my outhouse/garage is the nephew of the hat person from Galway in Ireland. Philip Treacy.

I was WHAT? And the builder just lived up the road from me, but no one knew. That is Ireland. live and let live.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 22:07

Breasts not breaststroke!!

Snog · 17/01/2020 22:07

Agree Meghan's figure is difficult to dress - she is very short waisted.

I think she usually dresses very well but it's not an easy figure type to work with compared to say Kate or Diana.

NaturalBornWoman · 17/01/2020 22:08

Charles and Camilla could have married in church but it was felt that the more low-key their wedding was, the better. So they opted for a civil ceremony in a register office followed by a blessing in church.

I thought the Archbishop of Canterbury made it clear that having broken the vows he made to Diana in St Paul's and given his future position as head of the C of E and that he was marrying the OW it was a no. He wouldn't let her walk down the aisle to him either, like it was a marriage. Plus it was sensitive as you say, a lot of people were not in favour of the marriage.

StubbleTurnips · 17/01/2020 22:10

Loved all the royal brides. I thought Eugenies evening dress was lovely, made her look like a superhero with a great rack.
