Meghan's awful dress yesterday

Just saw the pics of the dress she wore to the wedding yesterday. She normally has fairly good dress sense, but this? It looks like a curtain she took down off a window. It even has some loose cords hanging off it. It swamps her and just looks truly atrocious.

agree totally with flippy, we don't need women bringing us down.

I was wondering a while ago how I'd feel if women ran the world instead of men and it immediately made me think of mumsnet. Even though it's a tiny, non-representative segment of community, I'd be fearful as it seems to be ingrained to do women down, whatever your sex.

The patriarchy has absolutely nothing to fear from women usurping it.

we don't need women bringing us down what does that actually mean?
You see I’ll discuss anyone, anything as I chose.and if it involves a woman so be it
What I won’t tolerate is being told I must adhere to a sisterly solidarity and refrain from anything that someone else deems critical of women
I’m an adult, if another woman makes disagrees we can robustly explore that. I don’t need protected or shielded from things that may bring us down

  1. Being a feminist does not mean having to agree with everything any other woman says or does.
  2. I reckon that the Royal Family owes me a bit of “ooh look at that “ clothes judgement- the least they can do in my opinion.
  3. No idea how anyone can make any sort of judgement on that dress from still pictures on a windy day.
  4. Americans have a grand tradition of making frocks from curtains.
  5. Tomorrow is another day.

Post what you like, Lipstick but if I disagree with what you post, I'll tell you (if I want to). If you can't think of anything better to do than criticise another woman for what she's wearing then that's too bad for you.

That's my explanation. I can't think of any smaller words, sorry.

I don't care what feminist principles you and your ilk think you're upholding. In my opinion, you're judging other women for something that is insignificant, ie. their clothing. Judge their actions and I'll respect you, albeit I'm sure you don't care.

I like the dress. I know it's not likely to happen but I'd love to see an end to bodycon finally and see a trend for loose relaxed fits come in, more of a romantic aesthetic instead of sexualized.

I thought modest floaty floral and something different from fitted taupe/beige/Black was appropriate for a country wedding tbh.

I do think it was too big though

Sorry that was to headstone!
I’ve always questioned the sheer excess of the rich and I always will. I have a lot of respect for the super rich like Bill Gates who are actually quite modest individuals

It isn't so much about criticising other women that is the issue here, it's the suggestion and inference that a woman's sole role is to look 'pretty' or dress in a certain way, rather than be judged on their acts and intellect. It isn't about sisterley solidarity but about not judging women on their looks and judging on their intellect instead. The trolling of Mary Beard is a fine example of this. An amazing, shining bright, intellect who was judged totally on her non conformist appearance. You lipstickhandbag with respect, appear ignorant of the consequences your attitude has on women who have fought to be able to exercise their intellect and you are perpetuating the myth that we are only worth the sum of our looks. That's the issue, nothing to do with sister solidarity.

She carried it off well.

Clearly you have a lot of time on your hands if bitching and slagging off someone’s dress, who happened to marry into royalty, is up there in your to do list.

Really.

Get a life

The telegraph has a pic of the dress on someone else, I think she was too small for it. Maybe she needed a smaller size

Did you read my 5 posts, I commented MM is v attractive and would look good in a tracksuit. At no point did I criticise MM attire. In fact 11.54 I stated I did not agree with OP

I see you further labour your erroneous point I don't care what feminist principles you and your ilk think you're upholding. In my opinion, you're judging other women for something that is insignificant, ie. their clothing

So clearly it’s in fact too bad that you didn’t read my posts before piling in

Me and my ilk, I do unfortunately do not have an ilk, I’m not averse to acquiring an ilk.

FGS why is everyone having a pop at OP? She is expressing an opinion. We have free speech in this country don't we.

FWIW I don't like the dress either. Haven't liked much of what Meghan has worn recently tbh. However, I expect she doesn't give a shit. I don't give a shit about what people think about what I wear. i dress to please myself and I hope Meghan does too.

I have said I will not show solidarity solely on a gender basis,us sisters together
In the 6 posts I have written I have not been disparging about MM appearance or attire at all
You seem aerated about something I haven’t said

And saying she's 'v attractive and would look good in a track suit' is a risible defending argument, given the context.

It was not meant to be a searing précis of gender politics it was a lighthearted riposte
As was the comment about wotsit dust, shall I explain that too?

Bill Gates would have been the richest man in the world if he hadn’t given 30 billion to charity. He has a flashy house but he isn’t a flashy person, he will leave his inheritance to charity. He is by no means a perfect person but I respect when the super rich show frugality like when Kate M re-wears the same dress. I know she gets criticised for it but I find it a good show of character. I love the fact that mark Zuckerberg wears the same clothes everyday.

Mark Zuckerberg has identical multiples of his workwear eg navy hoodies
He apparently said it’s easier,5 navy hoodies etc all hung up ready to wear
There’s a certain logic in it, easy, laid out in advance.1 less thing to think about

Yes it just seemed too large for her, too long in the arms and swamped her. It would have looked fairly nice if it had a better fit.

Was 'asinine' a lighthearted riposte?
Err...no.

Mark Zuckerberg is shitting into his tracksuit bottoms because the arse is going to fall out of them.

JonBB maybe come back and explain how you erroneously associate me with trolling of Mary Beard et al

You see I agree with large parts of your post,(not the parts were you name me as example of why women are trolled). No were on this thread have I asserted women must look pretty or face a harsh judgement. In fact I hold no such views

I am of opinion I am not required to show gender solidarity. I do not support views of Teresa May, Kate Hopkin, Priti Patel and I don’t feel I need to keep Schtum because they are female
