What happens when the queen dies?

I know that. Harley's becomes king etc but what happens to the others? Will they be left money/homes/? Do they inherit anything? Is the queen allowed to leave them royal 'stuff'?

Might be a bit random but I just thought of it Grin

Not really, no. It's a education thing. But carry on. I look forward to the 'WE WUNT A REPOOOBLICK' banners at the next coronation.

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 23:40

I would guess if anyone is likely to abdicate it is William, he seems much happier in an old man Cardi, living in East Anglia. I think Charles has been brought up to do his duty and he will be king

GimmeeMoore · 13/01/2017 23:41

Oh I see you're making an asinine comment,is that because that you're miffed That I'm non plussed if her maj dies?

Armi · 13/01/2017 23:43

I don't even understand what you're trying to say. Never mind. I'm off to bed. You'll be off to get your balaclava and rifle ready for the revolution, I've no doubt.

Riversleep · 13/01/2017 23:43

I don't think Will would give up the perks TBH. He strikes me as a Princess Margaret type. Moaning about the constraints of his terrible life, but when given the chance to live an ordinary life, which is what will happen if he gives it up, he'll change his mind.

nancy75 · 13/01/2017 23:45

He wouldn't live a normal life though, they have enough money to have a very comfortable life - he wouldn't be worried about paying the rent!

GimmeeMoore · 13/01/2017 23:47

Of course you don't understand armi.

Riversleep · 13/01/2017 23:47

But Edward lived abroad in one house (not 5) and he would be giving it up for him and George and his descendants. He wouldn't do it.

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 23:48

nancy75 Quite - the former Edward VIII didn't exactly live in penury with Mrs Simpson.

OneWithTheForce · 13/01/2017 23:49

Gimme, check the definition of nonplussed.

PickledCauliflower · 13/01/2017 23:51

I often hear about what a hard working royal Princess Ann is, but she is very solemn isn't she? I mean, blimey - don't smile or your face will crack, etc.

Maybe she is fed up, as Andrew as got off lightly as regards to duties. I have to say, what does he do? And he wants his daughters to have a bigger role in the monarchy - but what will they do? I'm all ears waiting to hear about it anyway...

OneWithTheForce · 13/01/2017 23:51

Is it correct that if Charles or William abdicate that would remove their line from being heirs to the throne?

GimmeeMoore · 13/01/2017 23:55

I remain unperturbed, not vexed, in fact nonplussed if her maj dies

Pluto30 · 13/01/2017 23:56

All of the royals strike me as quite sullen looking.

With the exception of Harry and the Queen's mother (before she died, obv).

Actually, Charles doesn't seem too miserable.

OnyK · 13/01/2017 23:57

Yikes! Are we now allowed to use a coordinating conjunction at the start of a sentence? What is the world coming to? It must be an education thing. I blame the Queen.

TrustySnail · 13/01/2017 23:57

OnewiththeForce - No, I don't believe so.

The line of succession would remain the same - if Charles abdicated, throne goes to William, if W. abdicated, to George and then (unless George has issue) Charlotte - then back up to Harry; then back up to Andrew (unless Harry has issue), then Beatrice and so on.

OneWithTheForce · 13/01/2017 23:58

Gimme Grin

Riversleep · 14/01/2017 00:00

I thought Edward and Mrs S. were comfortable but not rich rich, which is what they wanted. Granted, I'm getting most of this from The Crown Grin . They had to sell their stories to live the lifestyle they wanted. Wills and Kate have had 2 homes completely refurbished since they married. They won't give up the lifestyle that easily.

5OBalesofHay · 14/01/2017 00:08

Not clever Armi and your punctuation is not correct

TrustySnail · 14/01/2017 00:09

Riversleep Yes, I suppose the royal lifestyle does create higher expectations. I was thinking more that their lifestyle would still be a wealthy one by the 'normal' standards of the aristocracy.

I read something recently (I doubt the source was terribly reliable!) saying that Pippa Middleton will become wealthier than Kate when she marries that hedge fund bloke.

RustyBear · 14/01/2017 00:13

It would depend on the terms of the Instrument of Abdication - Edward VIII renounced the throne for himself and his descendants, because the issue was his marriage to Wallis, but a monarch could abdicate just for him/herself.

Tartyflette · 14/01/2017 00:15

The Duke of Windsor negotiated a financial package when he abdicated , I think. But he wasn't too happy with it and wanted more, including family jewellery. I think he was also given money by wealthy friends.

But the Royal Family is worth a lot more these days, and for those who thought the Queen Mother was in debt, she may have been strapped for cash but she left property (eg Glamis castle) and other items worth millions. You can look up her will, all wills once registered are public documents, with the exception of the Sovereign's.

Bibs2014 · 14/01/2017 00:21

*Armi

Whilst waiting for your moment you could always revise correct use of the apostrophe and comma, I suppose*

Yawwwwwwwwwnnnn

Oh FFS there is no bloody 'lifestyle' to be given up other than being told what to do by the Foreign Office and generally a load of bloody grief.

This isn't the 1930s. If William wanted to abdicate they'd still have their lovely Norfolk home and they would continue to live their quiet little Norfolk lives financed by his not insignificant personal wealth. A helicopter job he loves, weekend visits to Bucklebury, annual family holidays to Mustique paid for by the Middleton's for Carole's birthday, good schools paid for by the Middleton trust fund and a new brother-in-law far richer than he is (probably) should he ever need a loan.

Sounds like bliss to me.

Pluto30 · 14/01/2017 00:29

Wasn't Wallis essentially the same as Harry's new girlfriend? Previously divorced, American etc...

Was the issue with Edward that he was the direct heir, or is it just a change of the times that no one seems to care about Megan's situation like they cared about Wallis'?
