I know that. Harley's becomes king etc but what happens to the others? Will they be left money/homes/? Do they inherit anything? Is the queen allowed to leave them royal 'stuff'?

Might be a bit random but I just thought of it Grin

Sorry.

DanGleballs · 13/01/2017 22:36

If a young Charles was on mumsnet he would have our undivided support. A mostly absent mother engrossed in her career allowing her child to be brought up by nanny. An overbearing father who made him feel like a failure for not being 'manly' enough. A brutal boarding school totally unsuitable for a more sensitive child. I feel quite sorry for Charles actually. Did you see the footage where the Queen had been away for months and Charles was at the port to greet her? He got a pat on the head but no cuddles or affection. Poor little lad.

I doubt that there will be a separate coronation in Scotland, even if Scotland is independent by then. Maybe an investiture of sorts.

On the regal number issue, there is no regnal number used in Scotland for the Queen as a matter of practice in deference to the fact that she is the first Elizabeth for Scotland and for the UK, as it happens.

There was a court case that ruled the number choice to be a matter of royal prerogative, as is the regnal name. It is expected that in the future the higher of the two numbers from English and Scottish monarchs will be used, if there is a discrepancy. It won't be an issue for Charles, assuming he chooses Charles or George as a name, but it will be for William, if he chooses William.

There is greater sensitivity to the issue with the rise of Scottish nationalism (Former First Minister Salmond has referred to the Queen, in her presence, as "our Queen of Scots.")

SenecaFalls · 13/01/2017 22:39

And neither Queen of Scots or Queen of England is an official title.

Out2pasture · 13/01/2017 22:49

Some of the commonwealth countries might rethink their ties.

PickledCauliflower · 13/01/2017 22:52

I can't see Charles passing it over to William. I get the impression that he can't wait for the power. I don't trust him one bit - all that letter writing to Prime MInisters trying to put his influence over this and that, most of the letters unreleased for the public to view.

I may be being unreasonable on this, but I can't bloody stand him.

I'd be nonplussed as I was when queen mum did and princess di died

RustyBear · 13/01/2017 22:54

Even when Scotland was still a separate country, and just had the same monarch (from 1603-1707)t hey did not always have a coronation in Scotland. The first king of both countries, James VI &I had already been crowned in Scotland before he succeeded to the English throne. Charles I had a coronation in Scotland, but not for nearly 8 years after his succession. Charles II was crowned there in 1650/51 before he regained the English crown, but James VII& II , William & Mary and Anne, who all succeeded before the 1707 Act of Union, were only crowned in England.

Tartyflette · 13/01/2017 22:55

Did anyone see the play, King Charles III ? I'm not a fan of Charles at all and am concerned about him possibly meddling in things he should not but it was a reasonably intelligent look at how a well-meaning man trying to do the right thing brought about his own downfall. (helped by Kate who put the boot in Grin)
Tim Piggot-Smith was great as Charles.
As you were.

HelenDenver · 13/01/2017 22:56

Thanks Seneca, interesting

Wdigin2this · 13/01/2017 22:56

Charles won't pass his crown on to William, he's waited too long for it!

PickledCauliflower · 13/01/2017 22:58

And he could make a bloody effort to take his hand out of his pocket when he is greeting people, I've always thought that it looks so rude.
It's not like he doesn't understand the basic rules of etiquette - I don't get it.

Runny · 13/01/2017 22:59

Whenever I think of Prince Charles I always hear that song from the Lion King, 'oh I just can't wait to be King!' Grin

lurkinghusband · 13/01/2017 23:00

Don't GAS what Charles calls himself, but for the love of God I hope he changes the national anthem. I know he's a Parry fan, so we might yet sing Jerusalem ...

PickledCauliflower · 13/01/2017 23:02

And I know I should take no notice of tabloid sensational reports - but all that business of the telephone calls to Camilla whilst he (and she) were still married.
Even without all of that News Of The World stuff, it was quite plain that he was having a relationship outside of his marriage - pretty much from day one.
If his then wife was on here - we would be her advising he to LTB..

PickledCauliflower · 13/01/2017 23:03

Advising her - that should say 🤓

CakeNinja · 13/01/2017 23:07

I know teach a Harley. I can't imagine him being King. His ears would fit on a stamp, but I'm not sure there's much between them! He's a lovely lad though. Very funny and was one of my many Snow Reporters today Grin

RustyBear · 13/01/2017 23:09

Yes, I saw King Charles III, tartyflette - thought it was very good. It's being adapted for tv, don't know when it's going to be shown.

Armi · 13/01/2017 23:25

I suppose we'll have to put up with sneering republicans rubbishing her contribution to society and being generally unpleasant. So not much change there, then.

I'll be upset and will miss her. She has been a steady constant throughout my entire life and is inextricably linked, in my mind, with my grandmother. Charles may well be a force for good. I am less enamoured with William - a cheerful monarch is one thing, a miserable, griping, moaning monarch is quite another. At some point he's going to have to get rid of his 'poor suffering me' aura because people won't have it.

GimmeeMoore · 13/01/2017 23:27

In same respect I have to suffer the toadyism, the shes great ma'am,sycophants

Armi · 13/01/2017 23:30

Whilst waiting for your moment you could always revise correct use of the apostrophe and comma, I suppose.

Grindelwaldswand · 13/01/2017 23:30

Do we really all have to stay off work for the day ? My company isn't remotely patriotic so I think we'd still stay open. Bills still need paying regardless of Liz popping her clogs or not
Unless the royals want to write us all a big cheque to cover the country's earnings fir the day

GimmeeMoore · 13/01/2017 23:33

I suppose All that, bowing, scraping about ma'am has made you crabbit about SPAG
