Are many people planning street parties?
What you doing at yours? Would a bouncy castle be overkill do you think?

im facepainting at a street party put on by the whole town.theres going to be live music, bbq, balloon modelling etc.

TheBolter · 09/04/2011 16:22

Working.

I think I must be the least excited person in Britain. I really can't get excited about the wedding of two people I neither know nor care about.

ppeatfruit · 09/04/2011 18:35

Princess flori You don't live up to yr name do you? i'm a bit Sad that we will be in fr.(they do love Royals despite being a republic)) People in London NEED an excuse to be neighbourly so bring it on!!!

Takver · 09/04/2011 18:42

Princess Florimonde "And I am amazed that people on this thread are claiming to be republicans, but are still hoping to go to 'royal wedding' parties."

By that argument since I am an equally born-and-bred atheist I shouldn't celebrate Christmas, definitely shouldn't be organising an Easter Egg hunt, and absolutely certainly shouldn't have played in a band that mainly formed part of saints' day parades when I lived in Spain . . .

Bolter, I'm not in the least excited by the wedding, certainly won't be watching it on tv, but if someone invites me to a party there has to be a very good reason for me not to go Grin

fedupandfifty · 09/04/2011 19:28

Yes - a real street party! I can't wait! It's based round a local pub, so should be bearable after a couple.

Soojie · 09/04/2011 20:54

Good grief. I truly cannot believe that any thinking person would give a monkey's about two strangers getting married and costing the country a bloody fortune into the bargain. Do you like being a "subject"? Honestly?

MooMooFarm · 09/04/2011 22:05

No! The royals weren't interested in my wedding so they can nob off now! Grin

charleneanne · 09/04/2011 23:00

ffs stuff the royal wedding its shit bloody wanking willie and hsi tart

PassTheTwiglets · 10/04/2011 07:12

I am organising a street party but I couldn't care less about them or the wedding - it's just an excuse for a party. It's not a celebration of the wedding and I've deliberately worded our invitations as such. Takver, I like your point about an atheist not joining in with Christmas - that's exactly how I feel about it all. I don't give two hoots but if there's cake and wine involved then I'm in :)

OeufaBrain · 10/04/2011 07:26

we are having a huge picnic well away from any tvs etc with a bbq and silly games. I am Not Remotely Interested.

rosedw · 10/04/2011 11:18

No...

NoelEdmondshair · 10/04/2011 11:53

There are some right miserable buggers on this thread. And calling Kate a "tart" Hmm

ppeatfruit · 10/04/2011 12:10

yes noeledmondshair lol! you are right !

funnyperson · 10/04/2011 14:40

All the stuff for both children upto the age of six was from 'party pieces'- the children loved it and each year we had a different theme and it was part of the lead up doing the order and receiving the package with cups and plates and napkins and a tablecloth and getting the tables from the sunday school.
I still have bits left.

We arent having a street party - we did it for the golden jubilee but all the children are now grown up so just a nice, hopefully sunny, day off for them.

overthesea · 10/04/2011 15:10

No one around here is even vaguely interested - possibly because Prince Charles only lives 5 mins away and everyone is going to the real one LOL. So no street parties :(

pantaloons · 10/04/2011 15:38

We won't be having one, it's mainly because we live on a 60mph country road!

curtaincall · 10/04/2011 15:46

does anybody know what time the actual wedding will be?

eggspectantmum · 10/04/2011 15:50

Indoor street party here too but not until 'family tea time' as no large screen/aerial in village hall. Kids dressing up comp, naff wedding disco songs etc

TaffetaCat · 10/04/2011 16:30

Wedding is at 11am

BringBackGoingForGold · 10/04/2011 17:58

Friends of mine are having a going-away party (going off travelling). Couldn't give a flying one about a couple of strangers getting married, I'm afraid.

I do love the idea of having a street party at some point though and am on the lookout for a non-royalist excuse to suggest one to my street.

Paquitalaflor · 10/04/2011 19:38

My street has been planning this since New Year's. Less about the wedding and more about getting together with lovely neighbours who we party with all the time anyway. Any event and we have a party..... in fact, had several "planning gatherings" that got a bit raucous. Bodes well.

expatinscotland · 10/04/2011 20:42

No.

sweetiesue · 10/04/2011 21:26

We're going for a lounge party. Basically, dd, ds and myself are going to my parent's house at about 9.30 where we will sit down in front of tv and eat all manner of sandwiches, cakes, biscuits etc throughout the day whilst ooing and ahhing as well as criticising the outfits. If ds gets bored then he will be chucked out into the garden with grandad so as to not disturb us. Any excuse to be "on strike" and enjoy putting my feet up

oldishbag · 10/04/2011 21:34

We're going to a street party - there are loads of kids where we live, and lots of adults who enjoy a drink or two. And we're having a bouncy castle! The kids are really excited, but don't really know who is getting married, so I suppose that says it all.
