Are many people planning street parties?
What you doing at yours? Would a bouncy castle be overkill do you think?

I'm not buying from Party Pieces on principle.

candleshoe · 08/04/2011 19:30

I'll be driving down to Cornwall!

TaffetaCat · 08/04/2011 19:34

Thought about a street party. Too much hassle. Having a garden party here instead with lots of friends and their DC.

I like the idea of tiaras/hats etc, and we will also do bring a dish as I can't be arsed to cook it all

CointreauVersial · 08/04/2011 19:41

We're having a Right Royal Tea Party, the whole village invited, tiaras and medals to be worn, bring a tea pot and a picnic (Tea pot? Sod that, a wine cooler more like).

We got proper invitations with the royal crest at the top.

I'm expecting a bouncy castle, face-painting, fancy dress, hog roast - the works!

happybubblebrain · 08/04/2011 19:54

I'm ignoring the whole farce.

bilblio · 08/04/2011 20:06

"Good Lord! We have a Royal Family topic?! "
That was my first thought ThefallenMadonna

We'll not be doing much. I don't know if I'm working yet.

jugglingjo · 08/04/2011 20:13

Mudandmayhem - Your mentioning "party pieces" got me thinking ... maybe the whole thing of sending her to St.Andrews and encouraging the romance was just an elaborate rouse to drum up custom for all the street parties for the wedding Wink

ReshapeWhileDamp · 08/04/2011 20:44

I'm still irrationally miffed that we haven't been invited to a street party, despite being a fervent Republican. Sad I was going to have a tee-shirt made up saying 'Bread and Circuses' under a pic of K&W.

PercyPigPie · 08/04/2011 21:06

Maybe Juggling. I wonder how many paper plates they had to sell for a term at Marlborough tho'!

Skifit · 08/04/2011 21:13

Happily now going to friends with DS and bottle of Rose and snacks...
smashing!!

smartyparts · 08/04/2011 21:19

Going to Legoland!

Florin · 08/04/2011 21:53

We have been invited to 2 street parties. Going to my parents party though as know more people there. My parents have done their invites just like the royal ones and tiaras and bowties are to be worn. I can't wait its going to be an all day drinking session. Our favourite cocktails are white ladies which we felt was perfect for the theme too so will be serving them as well as champagne wine etc. Bought our bunting (Coop!) balloons etc ready and doing a bbq plus guest are bringing a salad or pudding. Anything for a good excuse to have a party!

PrincessFiorimonde · 08/04/2011 22:19

We are not doing anything. I am a bit Shock that anyone would even want to do something, though I do realise that I might not represent the mainstream here.

I wish both William and Catherine well, in the same way that I'd wish any couple well. But really - street parties?

I am old enough to remember the 25-year jubilee in 1977, and I thought that was Hmm too.

cosysocks · 08/04/2011 23:03

We're having a garden party. Ladies wearing tea dresses and red lipstick! Everyone has to bring a cake. So looking forward to it, off to pound shop to see if they have any really naf tat to hang in garden. Grin

sungirltan · 08/04/2011 23:43

i'm going to a street party in a posh road which has been organising it for months. i'm so excited i've never been to a street party (loser i know) i have already started choosing a dress ofr dd out of her huge pile of hand me down party frocks. i will have wedding party photos!!

PrincessFiorimonde · 09/04/2011 03:39

I really think that these street parties are only for people up to about 8 years old.

And I am amazed that people on this thread are claiming to be republicans, but are still hoping to go to 'royal wedding' parties.

As far as adults are concerned, if you want to get to know your neighbours, why not just get to know them? It doesn't take a big effort just to speak to people.

Or, if you want a party, why not just have one? An Easter/Midsummer/Bonfire Night/Just Getting To Know You party will do the trick.

PrincessFiorimonde · 09/04/2011 03:46

Though I do like the idea of cosysocks's garden party with tea dresses and red lipstick...

But can't we have that sort of party without the blimping wedding?

Wormshuffler · 09/04/2011 07:53

I wish I had organised a street party but I fear now it is probably too late......... I may actually go to London for it though, but am worried about the terrorist threat.

Gracie123 · 09/04/2011 08:30

My street invited me to q party to celebrate the marriage of William and Harry Hmm

We're going to a party on the estate down the toad though, because our friends over there invited us and theirs looks better. at least they got Kate's name right! Grin

I don't even know at what time of day the wedding is occurring. Pleased to say I'll be on holiday then - but am sure Hmm that the thing will be on TV evrywhere.

muminthecity · 09/04/2011 11:25

DD and I are going away to the Isle of Wight for the weekend and will be ignoring anything to do with the royals Smile

meditrina · 09/04/2011 11:27

We're not having one, but I remember the one held locally for the Golden Jubilee. The best bits were seeing tweenagers, who were normally trying to be too cool, having an absolute blast in the egg and spoon race (also sack race and three-legged race), and the really cheesy disco (the curate doing the twist is a cherished memory).

CheeryCrucifixion · 09/04/2011 14:25

Dare I ask, Whats wrong with Party Pieces???
