Not sure if I’m ready for an older rescue cat

Hi, looking for some sensible advice from cat people as I really don’t know what to do.

My gorgeous old cat died just under 3 years ago at the grand old age of 18. She was my soul cat and I still miss her terribly.

My issue is that I would like another cat (or 2) as I really miss having a furry friend but I don’t know if I am ready.

What’s making this worse is that I have seen a cat on a local rescue website whose owner died and he has been living in the cat rescue place for nearly 6 months. He is 12 and has diabetes but it’s breaking my heart that he is in the cat rescue when he’s an older cat and was obviously so well loved.

But there’s a bit of me that thinks I am not ready to get attached and to have another cat when I’m still crying over my gorgeous old cat and the chances are I won’t have him for long either. I’m an emotional wreck at the best of times (thanks peri) so I need some advice please oh wise cat people of mumsnet!

Look at Louie's little face 😍 Also I have that duvet cover - you have just inspired me to dig it out!

Edited

He’s honestly been such a champ with Hissy-face - a real wee star.

We have the brushed cotton version of that duvet set for winter too actually. Foxes are my favourites!

@rachel734”different cats bring different kinds of goodness into our lives”.

Thank you for this. It is so true! We have had several cats, all completely different personalities. Some older rescues, some kittens. The joy they have each brought us in their own individual ways is immeasurable.

Do it!!
We’ve almost always had older rescues. We’re up to 12 cats in 25 years. But we’ve taken on three over the age of 11 in our most recent moment of madness. They have all had such different personalities and we have accepted the deal that we may not have them for long but we make damn sure they have the best life in what time they have left. My friend took on a 12 yr old and she lived to 21! We’ve all rather lost our hearts to the most recent gang.
