It can be reasonable if you purchase it online. I get it from viovet, it costs around £35 for 3 months of advantage flea spot on solution and termaworm tablets for 3 cats.

They are expensive. Monthly vet plan for each cat is £24 which covers their flea and wormer, consultation fees and yearly boosters. They are on high-quality raw food which costs £30 each per month, pet insurance costs about £15 a month per cat but my older two have a 20% copay for claims now due to their ages.

One of mine is also on arthritis medication which costs £36/month. She occasionally needs professional grooming as she is prone to matting in winter due to her arthritis, which isn’t cheap either!

Bloody expensive, each cat costs me more per month than my human child!

I don't like too many chemicals so ours are only treated every three months. Obviously if we spot any fleas we do them but it's rare that we need to. Also, don't buy from the vets as it's so much more expensive. We get Advantage flea treatment online from vet.uk and it's about 1/3 of the price. Same for worming tablets. We have them vaccinated at the vets and that's about £70/year. Some vets do a plan that covers check ups, vaccinations, flea treatments and consultations but not medications or surgery.
We have so many cats that it works out cheaper to pay when something needs doing. For that reason we don't have pet insurance but put money aside each month in case we have a vet bill.

Ours are happy with cardboard boxes, ping pong balls (which are cheap) and climbing trees.

Fleas definitely puts me off getting cats. I was told this wasn’t an issue. To me, if you see a flea on the cat doesn’t it mean you have them in your home?

We had an outbreak in a family home as a child and I think it has scared me.

@sodoffbeforemycupofcoff I just paid the guts of £700 for ours to have a dental with two extractions - he’s actually very well insured, but teeth are only covered in an accident. So worth thinking about that sort of unexpected cost as well as flea/worm/food/litter/insurance etc on a regular basis. I think the consult to figure out he needed the dental plus pain meds until the appointment for it was about £150, and boosters are about £70. (We don’t have a plan with our surgery which maybe would be cheaper, and we actually do buy the flea/worm stuff direct from the vet which I know is more expensive.)

Here he is last week climbing the walls - literally - when he wasn’t allowed out post surgery! We love him so much, he’s an absolute little pest but he’s our little pest.

My cats are definitely the best thing in my world. My life is ruled by them, my routines are dictated by their needs/wants.

Girlcat is a despotic dictator and Tobias is needy, I am just there to serve them. But the sound of them galloping down the stairs as I open the door lifts my heart after a long day, and the repeated demands for attention (not just treats!) makes me feel sooo good. The sheer beauty of a cat walking into the room, the laughs when Tobias gets over excited on his tree & nearly falls off, the softness of both their coats, the look on Girlcat's face when she's writhing on the floor having belly rubs - these are all thinks that make me feel better.

We are currently decorating the hall and going through the options to try and make it cat safe .

The hall carpet is up ( as it was stained and a bit rough after the carpet shampooer I had didn't dry as well as it should . Carpet is old though)
Keeping the stair carpet , it needs a clean but if I get a new one these little blighters will attack if Bedroom carpet willl testify to this )

They do rule but in a serene quiet way . Mine are siblings , now 8yo , we got them as 1yo young cats . (Not kittens) brother /sister
They get on fine if they don't interact too much . Bit like my human offspring (son/daughter)
We don't have Cattery or Sitter fees as the DC look after the house and cats .
Food , insurance, vet for vaccines and worm/flea treatments
They are messy , they shed fur and kick litter about .

Mine are bog standard , no frills moggies . The Male looks like a hare with pointy ears !
They go out in the garden , come in for dinner and treats , get locked in at night .
Independance can be mis interpreted as arrogance in cats .
They have favourites ( Male Cat-DD / Female Cat -DH) . My DS doesn't get a second glance and they positively disregard me to the point of digust .

Female Cat is happy if she gets her own way . Cannot say fairer than that , can you ?

Cats are absolutely the best!! I have 4. All black. All formerly feral. A mum and her 3 kits moved in with us and took over the place. We absolutely worship them and they are terribly spoiled. 1 of the boys has chosen me as his person and is very careful to make sure I rest by sleeping on me as often as he can and making me stop when I’m rushing around to rub his belly. He’s better than a mindfulness app!

He sounds very thoughtful indeed! I have a black cat and she runs the house and garden, dispenses cuddles in the early morning, and likes to sleep on my face.
