It’s her birthday next week (13). What should I do for it? Usually get her something.

I had never heard of silver vine! That’s on my list. Yeah the cat goes nuts for my iPad as that’s where she gets cat games.

Mine prefers it to cat nip which he also loves - Pets at home sell tubs of it

VikingLady · 14/05/2026 13:15

I just bought dangly bouncy catnip filled toys to hang from the doorways. Those have been a huge success. Almost as good as the longer crinkly toys they can hug to themselves and scrabble with their back legs.

Overtheatlantic · 14/05/2026 13:16

A Yeoow banana catnip toy? My girl gets one for Christmas and her early June adoption day. Huge hit!

Aww, happy birthday to your kitty. My cat has her birthday this weekend and will be 17. She doesn't care about toys any more so will probably open her a nice tin of salmon or something and just make extra fuss of her.

Happy birthday to your cat! 17 is a good age.

Well, my young DDs made our cat a purple cape for her birthday out of some leftover fabric, and tied it on her. She was rather surprised but wore it without complaint for a while!

That’s on my list too those toys. Trouble with toys is some she just won’t bother with. Have got those plastic balls with bells inside, clockwork mouse. She gets bored easily and prefers what’s outside.

mine also loves these, I give them to him loose & cut off the little loop rather than attach to a wand & he loves them. They do them in different animal hair but he loves this one the most

She doesn't know it's her birthday, but if you want to treat her, Molly's Mice do the best catnip mice ever.

Should I stick a candle in it too?

Obviously. Although I wish I'd thought of that before you suggested it.

She will know it’s her birthday by the extra attention I hope.

I don't think cats understand "birthday" as a concept because it relies on "calendar" and a couple of other abstract concepts. But she will know that you are giving her toys and nice food.

Happy Birthday to your cat!
My girl is 14 on Sunday and shes been at deaths door since Christmas, so its quite special. I've just bought her card in my lunch break 😊
We're 99% sure she won't see 15, so I'm making a bit of a thing of it x

Toasty Boy Cat thinks he is the King and has 2 birthdays- the day he was born and the day we adopted him.
Tuna and Dreamies are his preferred gifts.

If I wrap up her gifts she likes wrapping paper.

Thank you!

I will be passing on all birthday wishes to her. I’ll even sing happy birthday to her. Mad cat lady.

It rustles, of course she likes it!

If "cat's birthday" gives you a date for an annual cat toy refresh, then do it, it works for you.

I get CatOfHate new stuff when I get back from my annual holiday because he's a rescue cat so I don't know exactly when his birthday is and he wouldn't understand the concept anyway, but he certainly understands being left in the cattery for two weeks, so I get him new toys to cheer him up afterwards.

Tolkien is happy with an extra portion of Dreamies. Little Tennyson was 3 on 30th March and had to spend his birthday in the cattery as I was in hospital having surgery. I took in a Victoria sponge so he could have a spoonful and a tub of cottage cheese to which he is partial.

Aww, I hope she enjoys her special day tomorrow and lots of cuddles and ear rubs. It's heart breaking isn' it? Mine's just turned 7, that would be her last b'day because the vet overdosed her and nearly killed her when she was 18 months old. She has kidney failure because of it.
Am spending every day making sure she has fun and spoiling her rotten for however am able to.
