Well now.

Y'all may remember that The Widower was getting too keen on me.

I ghosted him for a month, then thought better of it. After all, there's no reason not to be friendly towards him.

We went out for lunch yesterday. He offered me a shopping trolley and brought it round today.

I suggested Saturday for cleaning the plant pots in the garden. He seemed to be willing to help. There are twenty two of them.

But I get the distinct impression that he's ready to ramp things up again.

He told me I had lovely hair.

Hmm.

Cleaning your pots? Maybe he thought it was a euphemism 😁

Toad has stolen Fred's nest this weekend. Fred is most put out. Toad gives no fucks.

Ha! If he went into the bedroom he'd see my new vibrator on the bedside table.

I have no need of his "services".

I'm watching an ancient Miss Marple film from the 1950s, in which she hears a noise coming from her hotel room.

Instead of a miscreant, five cats stroll out on to the landing after she flings open the door.

@Breadcat24 if you want a cat on your lap, I can send you Toad. He has a very annoying habit of digging his claws in though!

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/05/2026 20:44

He does sound like he might be all or nothing, Broon.

Which Miss Marple is that?

It's called Murder Most Foul.

It's not a real Christie book. It's a kind of vague depiction of Mrs. McGinty's Dead, which of course was a Poirot book.

Margaret Rutherford is Miss Marple.
The eponymous Mrs McGinty in this film is a prostitute........ not a plot that Agatha would have liked.

In fact, she hated it, but she had signed a contract with the film makers, who were basically allowed to do exactly as they liked.

Ah, I was going to ask which Agatha book as I have a friend who has the full set, though I was sure she would have mentioned one with cats.....
I really dislike when plots and characters are fiddled about with, most especially when 'Endless Night' was turned into a Marple episode (that's another yeuch: taking away the 'Miss' and dressing her in a tweed suit with not a knitting needle in sight)!
And breathe....

Pudmyboy · 04/05/2026 21:14

If you want a murder mystery with a cat-lover as a main character, I read this a while ago. Quite lightweight, sort of thing that if on TV would be ITV daytime, but it does feature cats.
Though be warned , Broon , the main character is separated from her husband but they still have 'feelings' for each other (of the non-lethal type).
I got the book from a charity shop, for full disclosure.

Stripey is becoming a bit of a lap cat.

Though she kneads with her claws so much that she has already ruined a pair of trousers. And if she gets startled she can dig them in quite lethally.

Oooh thanks! I will make a note of the title for my charidee shop jaunts, I like to have a focus point first (the bookshelves) and then a general look around the rest of the stuff.

Pudmyboy · 04/05/2026 23:36

Or should that be focal point? Point of focus? Tired: need my bed!

Maybe putting a cushion on your lap first would help, @stormsandsunshine. Although it would have to be one you weren’t bothered about.

RumNotRun · 05/05/2026 11:29

Fred managed to claim his nest back. Toad did not accept this. I fear for my windows.

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/05/2026 12:05

Can you fit in an extra nest?

RumNotRun · 05/05/2026 12:31

I've just ordered one @EmpressaurusKitty but if it's anything like the tents they had, as soon as they have one each they won't want to use either!

Breadcat24 · 05/05/2026 13:05

@RumNotRun Thank you for the knd offer of Toad.
Micia needs to learn how to cat!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 05/05/2026 21:49

Micia is doing really well learning to cat. Her progress has been amazing and I'm sure a great deal of that is down to how patient you are with her. I'm sure in time she'll decide she likes snuggling with you.

He looks quite lionesque, if only he had been facing forward the effect would have been perfect 😻
