New tiny kitten

Hello! We have acquired a teeny kitten (supposedly 9 weeks old) but she’s the runt and is very small.
i haven’t weighed her, we only got her today.
We’ve kitten proofed the lounge and are keeping the dog and the other cat away.
She has one snotty eye which I’m cleaning every couple of hours with cooled saline solution
I’ve bought kitten milk and dry and wet food (the same as she was having where she came from).
Shes done a wee and a loose poo in the litter tray and mostly slept. She wasn’t interested in the food or water or saucer of milk so I syringed about 5ml warm kitten milk into her and that woke her up a bit. she then ate a little wet food.

are we doing the right things?

The vet wasn’t particularly forthcoming about feeding regimes or milk vs water, just said just give her whatever. Keep her warm and bring her back when she’s bigger for her jabs.
I asked about reporting the ‘breeder’ but they had no idea, said you can ring the RSPCA but their threshold is pretty low and if the cats are fed and have shelter they likely won’t do anything 🤷‍♀️
They aged her between 6-7 weeks but small

We rescued 2 4 week old kittens from a drug users squat . Fleas , upset tummy's, gammy eyes , filthy . They were the most beautiful adult cats a year later . Your little kitten will do fine with you , I can tell you are a caring person who will look after her . Give her a quiet place away from noise and activity . She will sleep a lot and not eat as much as you'd like her to but after a week or two she will come out of her shell . Try to spend quiet time with her so she can get used to being touched and spoken to .

She's gorgeous .

She’s such a sweetie. What a lovely thread. She’s obviously settling in brilliantly.

CatLovesMeBest · 01/02/2026 20:55

Wow, can she possibly get any cuter !

You all must be so pleased with her progress, she looks so happy and relaxed, and ready for fun, just as a kitten should. Well done Op and to your daughter !

Arlanymor · 01/02/2026 21:17

Oh look at her showing your her tummy! What a total gorgeous pawjus floof! She trusts you, she loves you and you and your daughter are doing a brilliant job, you should be so proud of yourselves. She looked so frail before but now she's looking positively kittenish! Thanks for sharing the photos. I got back from cat sitting today and I am already missing them so it's lovely to have such gorgeous images to look at. Oh Penny, you're a beaut, you really are!

HatStickBoots · 01/02/2026 21:29

Thank you for today’s photo @Fatiguedwithlife ! She looks so happy and content. I do love her little tummy 💕

CatChant · 02/02/2026 09:44

Beautiful, happy, contented little cat - you’ve achieved so much OP.

Pudmyboy · 02/02/2026 16:03

Teeny toe beans too!😻🐾

Pudmyboy · 02/02/2026 16:05

Any progress with her accepting Merlin?🤞🏼🤞🏼

Breadcat24 · 02/02/2026 16:35

well done you she is gorgeous

Fatiguedwithlife · 03/02/2026 08:24

Merlin is much more accepting of her and she’s stopped screaming at him.
She let the dog onto the sofa yesterday too. She’s more than doubled her weight from 12 days ago (now over 800g)

Can tell who rules the roost 😹

Hoolahoophop · 03/02/2026 09:20

Such a gorgeous face and colourings! You can see how tiny she is alongside Merlin.

Iheartmysmart · 03/02/2026 09:23

I just love Penny’s markings. She looks like she was made up of spare parts! The difference in her from the first photos is amazing, you’ve done such an amazing job taking care of her.

I’m glad harmony is being restored amongst the pets.

HatStickBoots · 03/02/2026 09:35

Awww thank you so much for the update! Merlin must be quite a placid boy 💗 That’s so lovely to see them side by side. So happy about your little dog being allowed on the sofa too 💓

tinyspiny · 03/02/2026 11:30

johntorodesfatcheeks · 03/02/2026 11:34

What a little poppet! 💖

Onlyforreindeer · 03/02/2026 11:35

Aww what a beautiful fiesty little girl! Lovely to see her looking so much healthier and establishing the new pet hierarchy!

Letsgoforaskip · 03/02/2026 16:01

This thread brightens up my day. I was worried she might not make it when I saw the first photo of her and she was such a tiny scrap. Now she’s ruling the roost! You have helped her so much and it is inspirational to see her blossom 🥰
It’s lovely that such a tiny kitten is making so many people living completely different lives smile in this dreary winter.

Just coming on to say what a wonderful job you've done. Thank you.

Penny is going to be a Naughty Tortie!

Iheartmysmart · 06/02/2026 13:11

That is a look of pure mischief! Penny just gets more adorable by the day, it’s been a privilege watching her changing from that sad little scrap of a kitten to the healthy one she is today. Thanks for cheering up a rather dismal Friday OP.

Pudmyboy · 06/02/2026 14:33

Has she discovered her voice yet @Fatiguedwithlife ?
I am looking forward to hearing she has started purring😻😻😻

Fatiguedwithlife · 06/02/2026 15:54

Oh yes, she purrs like an engine and shouts at us too, her meow is so high pitched

Thank you for this lovely update! I haven’t held a little kitten for years and I do miss that and when they erupt into purrs or start wobbling and falling asleep while sitting up. We rescued two little kittens nearly twenty years ago who were so tiny their food dish looked enormous and one or the other would sometimes nod off in the middle of their biscuits and have to be scooped out. Both would settle under my chin for naps too.
