New tiny kitten

Hello! We have acquired a teeny kitten (supposedly 9 weeks old) but she’s the runt and is very small.
i haven’t weighed her, we only got her today.
We’ve kitten proofed the lounge and are keeping the dog and the other cat away.
She has one snotty eye which I’m cleaning every couple of hours with cooled saline solution
I’ve bought kitten milk and dry and wet food (the same as she was having where she came from).
Shes done a wee and a loose poo in the litter tray and mostly slept. She wasn’t interested in the food or water or saucer of milk so I syringed about 5ml warm kitten milk into her and that woke her up a bit. she then ate a little wet food.

are we doing the right things?

Definitely dry clean only although Penny has fallen in the bath twice when it had water in it 🙄

We had the opportunity to get a kitten recently (friend took in a stray who then had kittens) and, feeling confident after seeing the story of Penny and Merlin, we went for it. Marmite came from a rescue centre last September aged about 1 so she hadn’t lived with us for ages already. We got Moppet (kitten) in June when she was 3 months old. I nearly despaired at times - hissing, pouncing, growling - but they are beginning to get on and more than just tolerate eachother. I hope they end up like Merlin and Penny

Awwww @Davros 🥰 they’re gorgeous! I’m also desperate to rehome another cat or kitten and Penny and Merlin are an inspiration to me too as to how cats can get along if necessary. We adopted our little black panther at the age of four and his back story wasn’t good. I wanted to adopt two together to avoid the whole territorial behaviour but the cattery wouldn’t allow that. Two years have gone by and he is extremely territorial. If another cat comes into the garden he doesn’t even bother to hiss or growl but just launches straight into a tumble which sees the other one off. No blood has been shed however, which I’m thankful for. It does make wanting to adopt another one very tricky.

We were lucky because the kitten option came up by chance and my friend said we could take her back if they didn’t get on! She would still take her back now if we decided to give up. There is no way that will be happening

It sounds like your black panther is a Single Cat Household kind of boy .
Ours are litter mates so get along fine , only snippy behaviour is when DH is being slow with supper and they're in danger of seeing their own feet having lost so much weight hanging about with DH sloppy animal husbandry .
Neither of them would welcome another cat at the moment but if it got to the point where one is alone and lonely , I'd have to consider

Penny and Merlin definitely helped us decide to get Moppet. I haven’t had more than one cat at a time since I was a kid

May I ask which is Moppet and which is Marmite? I thought the Calico-ish cat must be the kitten, Moppet, but on one picture the Calico-ish cat looks bigger than the black one, so is the black one Moppet?
Both are gorgeous and have excellent names 😻

@Pudmyboy The calico cat is massive, although she’s not yet 2, and she is called Marmite. She’s my first long haired cat. Moppet is the kitten and is pure black apart from three white hairs on her chest. She’s is nearly 5 months old

Edited to add: does Marmite like a belly rub? I would find all that floof hard to resist! (My late Pud loved a belly rub, I was very lucky).

None of us can sleep tonight so we are all having a feast at 1.40am! Penny found a huge owl in the garden and it’s screeching woke me up (I was worried there’d been an altercation but it was a standoff, the owl was sitting on top of the trampoline netting)!

Well we have had an adventurous morning!
DD2 and her friend decided to take Penny to the park (where Merlin always follows us to) but then Penny got scared and ran off into someone’s garden.
She climbed over their back fence but couldn’t get back again so I had to go and try and coax her back over. In the end DD2 ran around and knocked on the person’s front door and thankfully they were home and let them in. But by then, Penny was too scared to come to DD2, So I had to climb over the 6 foot fence and pick her up and walk all the way home with her in my arms desperately trying to escape.
I was rather cross with DD2, Typical 10-year-old loses all common sense when with friend!
all is well that ends well and hopefully she learnt her lesson not to take Penny with her as she doesn’t know where she’s going!

Oh poor Penny! Maybe in time she will become as bold as Merlin but I wonder if this adventure will put her off for a long time!
Hopefully DD will have have learned that each cat is different and will be extra-nice to Penny to make up for today.
I bet Penny's heart was racing, I had to pick up a scared kitty once (to remove to a place of safety) and thought his heart was going to come out of his body (he recovered really well once in a safe place and certainly seemed none the worse for his ordeal, within around 20minutes).
Please give Penny a little fuss from us on this thread 😻
