New tiny kitten

Hello! We have acquired a teeny kitten (supposedly 9 weeks old) but she’s the runt and is very small.
i haven’t weighed her, we only got her today.
We’ve kitten proofed the lounge and are keeping the dog and the other cat away.
She has one snotty eye which I’m cleaning every couple of hours with cooled saline solution
I’ve bought kitten milk and dry and wet food (the same as she was having where she came from).
Shes done a wee and a loose poo in the litter tray and mostly slept. She wasn’t interested in the food or water or saucer of milk so I syringed about 5ml warm kitten milk into her and that woke her up a bit. she then ate a little wet food.

are we doing the right things?

I haven’t paid the woman, she said she usually charges £20 but take her and see if she survives (!) then come back and pay me.

She ate about a teaspoon full.
The house she came from is disgusting… cats everywhere and filthy.
I reckon she has a better chance with us than there.
I’ll get her booked in at the vet

She looks very underfed and dehydrated. Check her gums, do they feel nice and moist ? If you pull some skin does it ping straight back ? Poor little scrap ! Glad she’s landed with you OP.

Fatiguedwithlife · 21/01/2026 17:17

Oh she’s VERY cuddly, walks straight back over and sits on your arm or leg if you put her down

Aw bless her, our cat was tiny too - so small she couldn’t manage kitten dry food and I was mushing up wet food for her with kitten milk.
She would crawl right up under my chin and snuggle there.
She was supposedly 8 weeks when we got her and was about the size of yours (she was small enough to fit in one of DHs hands)

She is an adult now- still small but perfectly healthy

BeaLola · 21/01/2026 20:41

I'm not a cat person and have no idea about anything you asked but just wanted to say I'm glad she found your family who are taking good care of her , she looks a super cutie and looking forward to hearing what you have decided to call her (apart from Miss Lucky)

LeonMccogh · 21/01/2026 20:42

Ahh she’s so cute! Glad you’ve taken her to the vet and she seems healthy enough other than her eye. 😻

Gggh · 21/01/2026 21:56

Small and very frequent feeds of kitten food and milk. Keep her warm and as stress free as possible. As she is indoors I would get parasite treatment first, then ask about the eye issue, then fleas, then vaccines when she is bigger and stable. Then spaying. First thing is to get her settled and stable. We had a similar rescue and he doubled in size and stopped wobbling within a week of parasite treatment.

Well done and good luck.

I really would urge you to report these people. They clearly have no care or concern for the poor animals they are breeding from. Probably back to back litters with no proper veterinary care.

autumn1610 · 21/01/2026 22:41

Hope she’s ok and please report the place you got her from

HatStickBoots · 21/01/2026 23:24

Poor little darling, what a bad start. I’m glad you’ve rescued her and I hope she thrives now. Good luck OP ❤️

Arlanymor · 21/01/2026 23:28

I think you are doing everything right - it is way too young to leave its mother, but if the living situations are unhealthy and dangerous then it is better to be where it can receive 24 hour care. Thanks for the kitten tax - what's her name? Apart from Blinky/Winky of course...

Davros · 21/01/2026 23:35

Aw she’s lucky to be with you. So sweet

Awww that’s bloody lush 😻

spiderlight · 21/01/2026 23:47

Oh, little sweetie! Thank goodness she's safe with you now. Any idea where her littermates are?

Briegirl · 21/01/2026 23:47

Oh she’s so cute! One of mine was a
similar size at 8 weeks when I got her. She’s 5 now and still very petite. She’ll soon fatten up!

If she's hypothermic, she's seeking warmth

Hope you have a source of heat for her

julesagain · 22/01/2026 00:27

Oh she's gorgeous, tiny but gorgeous. Our two were found in a local farmers field 16 months ago. There was no sign of mum. They were terrified and starving and I would guess about 6 weeks old. It's been fun getting them to try us and deal with our two Border Terriers but they have turned out to be the most beautiful cats we could have dreamt of and fulfil their mouse catching duties with diligence. No regrets at all. Good luck.

jamandcustard · 22/01/2026 07:10

Please report the place you got her from - this is animal neglect 😭

FunkyMonks · 22/01/2026 07:57

Poor sweetie I’m glad she has you now Op to take care of her and provide her with love and care she needs.
I would report her my friend had something similar with her kitten she had was told kitten was 8 weeks vet confirmed it was 6 weeks if that, too many horrid people these days putting money before the welfare and happiness of animals that shouldn’t even be allowed to have them not responsible owners in getting them spayed or neutered which then results in kittens that are equally neglected as much as mum cat.
It sounds like this woman’s cats aren’t health checked let alone any litters it has.

HatStickBoots · 22/01/2026 08:21

‘Blinky winky’ ❤️
I agree about reporting the home to cats protection or the rspca. The mother cat may even be malnourished.

Fatiguedwithlife · 22/01/2026 09:06

My daughter did the night shift with her and I took over at 0630, she’s eating more now. Her bed is under the radiator and heated clothes airer for when she can’t be attached to one of us!
She has eaten more and drunk some milk independently this morning . Her eye looks a bit better too, still bathing regularly and she’s had two doses of abx

Eye is looking a lot better. They’re not blue which means she’s older than she looks

Thanks for the photos, she's absolutely adorable, hopefully she continues to grow!

rainbowunicorn22 · 22/01/2026 09:56

I am sure now she will thrive, I was about to say get the eye checked.
It is true that is what RSPCA would say. Sadly it seems the woman has good intentions but is not very knowledgeable and probably out of her depth.
lots of good feeding advice on Blue Cross and PDSA websites
Unusual calico too have lots of great times with her xx
