New tiny kitten

Hello! We have acquired a teeny kitten (supposedly 9 weeks old) but she’s the runt and is very small.
i haven’t weighed her, we only got her today.
We’ve kitten proofed the lounge and are keeping the dog and the other cat away.
She has one snotty eye which I’m cleaning every couple of hours with cooled saline solution
I’ve bought kitten milk and dry and wet food (the same as she was having where she came from).
Shes done a wee and a loose poo in the litter tray and mostly slept. She wasn’t interested in the food or water or saucer of milk so I syringed about 5ml warm kitten milk into her and that woke her up a bit. she then ate a little wet food.

are we doing the right things?

My love to you both - mine is a calico like yours although has grown to be very big!

Happy bank holiday to you too.

She’s so lovely and it’s been wonderful seeing her progress from tiny poorly kitten to healthy and beloved puss! x

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2026 11:47

I love that card!

Fatiguedwithlife · 03/05/2026 15:03

She’s still a teeny puss cat. Your big calico is gorgeous @mumofoneAloneandwelltoo.
Penny is having her spay this week, I hope she isn’t in too much pain afterwards 😢

Beautiful. Both little Penny and @mumofoneAloneandwell ’s gorgeous girl.

Our cats have always taken spaying in their stride - back to scampering madly as soon as the anaesthetic wears off. Hope all goes smoothly for Penny.

I'm sure she'll be fine.
Mine was screaming blue murder at the vet's 30 min after her spay. They phoned me to collect her early because I think she was driving them mad and when she got home she was doing cartwheels all over the place!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/05/2026 18:21

She'll be uber judgey after the spay but fine .
Our first cat was spayed the day we collected her (this was 35 years ago ) , she was pregnant (unknown till the spay but given her history no surprise ) . Litter number 4 and only 2 years old , given up as the owners "didn't want the hassle" . Oviously CBA neutering her . We started her vaccines from scratch as didn't know if they'd done this .
She settled , a bit grumpy , but it was fine .
Lived to 17yo

Ours was a total nuisance with her sutures after her spay , in the end she had to have a suit on , hopefully Penny will be better behaved

Pudmyboy · 03/05/2026 22:03

Will she have the Cone of Shame or a body suit post op @Fatiguedwithlife , or is that undecided?
My friend had two cats, litter mates, very bonded but when one came back from the vets having been spayed, her litter mate hissed at her, quite shocking but apparently she smelt 'wrong' because of the chemicals used by the vet. So Merlin may not be so friendly when she comes back.
(Once the 'vet odour' had worn off, my friend's two were back to being bonded again so it's a happy ending).

Iheartmysmart · 04/05/2026 08:40

I think my little rescue kitten is a few months older than Penny. She was spayed just after Christmas and had managed to get one paw out of her surgical suit by the time we’d got home from the vet’s. A total of about 5 minutes in the car.

Early hours of the following morning and there was a thud as she fell off my bed. I turned the light on to find her with both front legs through the neck opening of the suit! Goodness only knows how, it was so tight. I had to wrestle her out of the blooming thing and she absolutely refused to let me put it back on. Fortunately she wasn’t interested in her stitches so I left it.

Anyhow, she was completely fine afterwards and tearing around like a mad thing despite my best efforts to keep her calm.

I’m sure Penny will be okay and you’ll be able to let her explore the great outdoors without worrying about more kittens.

chunkyBoo · 04/05/2026 19:47

lol just looking back through your lovely pix, we also have a black panther, a grey and a tortie / calico variety of spare part cat too 💕❤️🐾

Fatiguedwithlife · 06/05/2026 14:52

She’s home , not keen on her suit but will try and persevere with it. Purring away in her bed (that she rarely sleeps in!)

Aww bless her, it'll be worth it in the end Penny!

Allseeingallknowing · 06/05/2026 14:58

She looks very bright and with it after her anaesthetic!

Pudmyboy · 06/05/2026 15:26

She looks very smart, and as others have said, very alert! I wish her a speedy recovery and for you, a stress free life knowing there won't be any pregnancy scares from now on!
Has Merlin approached her to say hello yet?

CatLovesMeBest · 06/05/2026 15:49

Ah poor Penny, still managing to look cute in her onesie, hope she has a quick recovery 😊

HatStickBoots · 06/05/2026 18:38

Oh what a little darling 💕 That’s a perfect bed to recuperate in. I hope she heals well. It’s come around so soon!

Onlyforreindeer · 06/05/2026 18:56

Awww Penny in her pyjamas! Hope she recovers quickly from the operation (she looks great in the photo) x

Davros · 07/05/2026 08:39

I love her in her suit

Fatiguedwithlife · 07/05/2026 08:48

Well she managed to break out of her suit during the night but isn’t too bothered about her stitches thankfully. She is quite annoyed to be under house arrest.
Merlin has decided that now is the time he needs to sit on my knee while I get to stare at the enormous job (I am meant to be digging out all of these rocks and levelling the garden today).

HatStickBoots · 07/05/2026 15:31

Typical cat! One of the many things I love about them. That’s it, that’s you done for the day OP! Merlin says “No” 😀

How did Penny get out of her suit?!
