New tiny kitten

Hello! We have acquired a teeny kitten (supposedly 9 weeks old) but she’s the runt and is very small.
i haven’t weighed her, we only got her today.
We’ve kitten proofed the lounge and are keeping the dog and the other cat away.
She has one snotty eye which I’m cleaning every couple of hours with cooled saline solution
I’ve bought kitten milk and dry and wet food (the same as she was having where she came from).
Shes done a wee and a loose poo in the litter tray and mostly slept. She wasn’t interested in the food or water or saucer of milk so I syringed about 5ml warm kitten milk into her and that woke her up a bit. she then ate a little wet food.

are we doing the right things?

Yes I think she’s quite petite, although people comment on how big she is now so idk! 🤷‍♀️
Merlin is very scabby, not sure what that is all about they’ve both had frontline flea stuff so pretty sure it’s not that. He’s happy in himself good appetite etc just quite crusty! Any ideas?!

Poor Merlin! I think you’ll have to take him to the vet, it could be any number of things.

Ugh poor old crusty. I’ll call them tomorrow and get him booked in.

Thank you for asking @Pudmyboy he is on steroids for a dermatitis possibly from some flea bites (but no fleas found). He’s got a fantastic appetite now haha.
He was climbing a weeping willow with DD2 the other day and she ran home to go to the loo, he didn’t follow, so the next morning I went out to see if he was about and he was sitting in the bloody tree! I think he thought she was coming back 🙄 he was there all night and in the rain too. Such a Wally.
Penny is much more sensible and doesn’t venture so far.

Has he dealt with his scabby fur ?

He is still quite crispy. I guess it will clear up once the steroids kick in!

Our old cat had a form of atopic eczema, we tried all sorts ( not Licorice Allsorts but I'd have given anything a go) . The vet reckoned it was hormonal imbalance as she was spayed when pregnant ( litter number 4 and she was barely 2 yo when we got her as a rescue cat) . Best thing that worked for her was oils in her food , we tried evening primrose then discovered Arthur's which had omega oil , cleared her skin right up.

Present male cat was overgrooming and giving himself bald patches, the vet suggested cutting out fish which has helped (;Male cat is really stressy I think the fireworks spooked him)!

The old cat had steroids too for a while then just needed an occasional injection. She flared up when my DS was born then again when I was very pregnant with DD. How dare I bring those nasty children into her house 😄

Thanks for the updates, I hope he gets better soon, it sounds quite nasty for him.

My mum's cat has developed an allergy to harvest mites and gets really itchy and scabby at this time of year. She has a special spray and wipes to try ro remove them and occasionally steroids if it's really bad. Worth considering especially as Merlin likes to wander.

Our two younger cats get harvest mites for a few weeks each year too. They get a bit scabby round the ears but it doesn't seem to bother them. Our vet has never prescribed any treatment for it.
Oddly our older cats have never had the same problem.

My parents cat gets scabby now and again. A short course of steroids sorts him out. Possibly a flea allergy but no one is actually sure and he’s never actually had fleas.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcatsits the youth of today. Even the next cat generation is delicate hahaha

Merlin is much less crispy now he’s on the roids, and Pen is her usual bubbly self.
I have moved the kitchen around. The Cats seem to really enjoy having a table and chairs/ bench rather than a breakfast bar so that’s nice.

Merlin seems very brave and is getting on with cat life
