Pregnant foster cat…hopefully some kittens today

I’ve have the most beautiful pregnant foster cat so going to end up as a failed foster cat for about 4 weeks now and I honestly thought she’d had given birth by now.

It seems we might have some action today - it looks like she’s chosen her birthing box (several dotted around the house) and every time she comes out of her box for affection bites me, she hasn’t eaten since yesterday food has been left untouched, she’s grooming like crazy and making some weird old noises.

I don’t know why I’m so nervous this isn’t my first rodeo so to speak maybe because I am planning on keeping her (she will be spayed as soon as possible once these kitten are here)

Not sure why I’m posting really either maybe just some moral support as my husband and teens have gone out for the day, so it just me her and one of the dogs who she seems to want in the same room, meows and follows him whenever he goes to the other room 🤷‍♀️ (other dog is out with husband and kids)

Reporting for moral support! It sounds like she’s prepared and is waiting. She knows. I would put on some soft music?

Overtheatlantic · 26/07/2025 12:33

Also, cat tax? Her name? 😻

Iamthemoom · 26/07/2025 12:37

How lovely. I sat beside my beautiful girl while she gave birth when she was only two. She was inside a cat cave with just a small hole to get into, on a low shelf and we hung a black drape across it too so it was totally dark for her. I stayed there and spoke to her calmly for comfort. Every time a kitten popped out I’d hear her purr then a little mew. She was so clever. She’s still a tiny little thing but we kept two of the kittens who are now strapping lads!

I hope your queen has an easy labor and you have a box full of gorgeous fluffies by the end of the day. Updates with pics please when they’re old enough to photograph. I mean, you have to pay the cat tax. 😻

SpeedReader · 26/07/2025 13:17

Here and awaiting updates too.
I hope it all goes well and that it's special for both of you 😻

Sorry no kittens yet! I kept on eye on her all day yesterday and checked her several times during the night and nothing.

I honestly thought she’d have them last night.

Today has been much of the same lots of pacing and off her food! Her poops have been rather vile and she’s getting very territorial over her birthing box (of all the boxes she’s chosen the one in the lounge so I’ve tried to make it as dark and calming as possible and kept the dogs out much to her annoyance) I did try and encourage her to use the one in my room as it has a lot less people coming and going but she objected rather loudly at that.

I’ve checked parts and they do look a bit swollen but nothing seems to be happening so far, apart from her biting my fingers, she’s currently hidden under the sofa next to her box so I will leave her be and check again later.

As soon as they arrive I will pay the cat tax 😻😻

Her name is Mia

Ah, lovely Mia! Is everyone home now? I wonder why she wants the dogs. Moral support perhaps?

EvilNextDoor · 27/07/2025 18:44

Yes everyone is home now, I’m trying to keep the teens out of the lounge (which isn’t hard to be honest!)

Her and the male dog have a special bond, they have done since the moment they met accidentally not long after she came to us a teen left the door open and have been very close ever since they absolutely adore each other and he’s such a gentle soul despite his appearance, she’s not as fussed on our female dog.

Have the rescue you are fostering for given you any signs to look out for in case an emergency vet appointment is needed because of kittens getting stuck.

EvilNextDoor · 27/07/2025 21:37

@IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken Yes, they have, I have all the rescues vets info and failing that I can always use my own vets who have 24 hour emergency surgery.

If she shows no sign of kittens over the next 24 hours I will take her to the vets anyway and get her checked over

Oh bless her. So glad she’s safe with you.

I’m here for the journey OP. Keep us updated.

ooooohlala · 27/07/2025 21:51

I’ve heard of cats choosing to have kittens in busy places, almost like they want reassurance that there will be help if needed. Good luck!

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 27/07/2025 22:06

Aww just sending Mia lots of love. Can't wait to see photos of her and her kittens x

EvilNextDoor · 28/07/2025 10:58

Extremely disappointed still no kittens but also slightly worried as we were having cuddles this morning and she is definitely not herself, I did feel the kittens move (my thoughts are 4 of them) she’s had the most horrible poops again, some of the food I put out at 2am had been eaten not much but a nibble.

I have booked her in at the vets (my vets which I am happy to pay for) for 4pm today (they have advised I can call back if I get more worried and they will see me more urgently) and I have set up my laptop in the lounge so I can work and keep an eye on her. Typically it’s the day I have a meeting at 11.30 and my husband is in the office but he said he can come home.

I’ve left a message with the rescue telling them what I am doing as I am a bit concerned about her, I am sure they will call me back soon. I also messaged the another lady who does similar to me for the rescue and she agreed that it’s a good idea to get her checked.

I’ve had 4 queens before and this is something I am getting worried about

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 28/07/2025 11:08

I think I would be going to the vet after my meeting. 4 pm seems awfully long away.

myplace · 28/07/2025 13:14

Anxious times.

SpeedReader · 28/07/2025 14:24

Sending all the best - do keep us updated 💕

Frenchfemme · 28/07/2025 14:42

Hope all goes well and lively, happy kittens arrive soon to a healthy queen.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 28/07/2025 20:30

How did the vets go?

WhenIwasyoungersomuchyounger · 29/07/2025 17:27

@EvilNextDoor Hope all is ok, hoping for good news.

EachandEveryone · 31/07/2025 17:59

Anything?

Loveallaroundyou · 05/08/2025 15:41

Really worried. Please update.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 05/08/2025 17:51

It's one or the other

either the Op is very busy with mum and kittens and she has forgotten this thread

or sadly, the mother didn't have a successful birth and still born kittens.

I fear the 2nd scenario.

EvilNextDoor · 12/08/2025 16:55

Apologies everyone!

We’ve had a right old time with her, turns out Mia was/is a very poorly cat, it was touch and go for her and the kittens.

She did however give birth (via a cat c section) to 6 kittens - only 5 survived, she’s had a really rough time of it.

I’ve attached a couple of pictures
