There is a pregnant cat in DD's bedroom

She's not ours and not chipped. The vet who saw her last night says she's about a week off giving birth. I emailed round all the local rescues last night to try to find someone with space to take her and will phone this morning.

She has wolfed down a few tins of kitten food and used the litter tray. She has biscuits, water, toys and a scratching post, as well as a variety of beds and boxes with blankets. DD is in tears about handing her over to a rescue and is insisting that YouTube has taught her everything she needs to know to safely deliver kittens.

Fingers crossed for this little cat finding a rescue place soon please!

Have you heard if the kittens have been born yet?

NotDarkGothicMama · 26/07/2025 22:26

No kittens yet! I'm on a WhatsApp group with her fosterer and the lady who was feeding her. We're very impatient and taking guesses as to the number and colour of kittens. I think 3 kittens, including a ginger one.

I'm afraid you might be right. The local rescue FB pages are all full of posts saying they're straining at the seams with the number of kittens looking for homes. We're going on holiday in a few days but our neighbours have said they'll take her in temporarily if she has nowhere else to go.

DD is 12. Little cat has been living in a bush in the town centre. A family who were concerned for her asked if someone could take her to the vet, and muggins here volunteered thinking they'd do a chip check and all would be well. The vets gave me a list of rescues to call and I couldn't bring myself to just put her back on the street, so here she is...

Snap!! But ours isnt pregnant .. thankfully. À male kitten was crying in our garden and when DH opended the door ran in and hid under the sofa. DH coaxed him out , the kitten virtually jumped into his arms( apparently;) ) by the time I came in from work 4 hours later the starving kitten was fed and stretched out on sofa cushions as if he’d lived with us forever but we were off on holiday in two days. Mad rush to get to vet , no registered owner, no fleas but had ticks ( arghhh my sofa) so treated him quickly .I am so crossing my fingers about the house and ticks though. Didn’t want to leave with friends cos of said ticks, no neighbors had lost a kitten couldn’t think of putting this gorgeous baby back outside, thankfully after much ado found a shelter to have him while we’re away then we’re officially adopting him when we get back. Just praying that the house isn’t infested with ticks arghhh!!

Here for the kitten pictures when they arrive!

@Adoptedbykitten that's adorable. Have a wonderful holiday! Fingers crossed for no ticks on your return.

Finally, some signs that little cat is getting ready to shift these kittens. We thought she was in labour yesterday but it calmed down overnight. Apparently she's nesting like crazy.

She was overdue! Hope t see some kitten pics soon :)

Good luck little cat ❤️

The kittens are arriving! #1 arrived just after 5am, black and white and suckling well. A good weight at 100g. Then nothing for three hours so little cat was scanned by a vet. Luckily no kittens were stuck so she had an injection to induce contractions and #2 was born just a few minutes ago, black with white paws and chin.

Gorgeous - do you think there will be more or is it just the 2?

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/08/2025 11:09

There's at least one still to come but the vet said it was difficult to tell whether there were any more. Both kittens are feeding well and little mummy cat is doing a great job.

Adorable!

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/08/2025 12:41

No more progress so she's just gone in for a c-section. There are at least 2 kittens still in there.

Oh my! Everything crossed for the little mum and kittens🤞🏼🤞🏼
Will she go back to her foster home afterwards?
Also, as I have never known a cat have a C-section: any chance it will affect bonding with the kittens and with feeding?
Edited to add: the kittens are gorgeous!

Gosh when we were looking for kittens this time a few years ago none could be found! None of the rescues had any. Hope all goes well with the birth!

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/08/2025 18:04

TW.

Mixed news from the fosterer. There were 3 kittens born via c-section: one giant kitten, one normal sized and one stillborn that hadn't formed properly in the womb. Little cat and the two kittens born this morning are doing ok but the two survivors from the c-section haven't latched on yet so they're all at the vet for special care. If the vet can get them suckling then they'll be ok.

The rescues round my way are overrun with kittens at the moment. Now's the time if you want a couple!

So can dd have a kitten now… Wink

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/08/2025 18:24

No kitten for DD as little cat made me sneeze. I'll have to check her pockets if we visit though!

The kittens are suckling ❤️ Phew! Not out of the woods yet but a big step along the way.

I love that protective paw across them, what a good mama cat!

Ellmau · 19/08/2025 19:54

Oh, best of luck to them.

OnTheBoardwalk · 19/08/2025 20:14

Thank you for caring and giving them a chance, you saved all their lives, they could have all died

I’m not usually a fan of the RSPCA but I’ll give a donation on your behalf

pst DD send me a message and I’ll sneak a kitten out for you

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/08/2025 20:26

She's doing great: cleaning them and letting them feed.

That's so kind of you. It's the South Bedfordshire branch if you'd like to donate to them directly: rspca-bedfordshiresouth.org.uk/how-to-help/donate/ They have to raise all their own funds, no central funding. I'm not a fan of the central RSPCA either TBH!
