writing in this in bed unable to stretch out as foot of the bed is now a designated cat zone. Last week it was in between the pillows.

On anything Uncomfortable .. with a choice of 4 double beds with 20 inch toppers a piece… and 5 specific Cat beds ……. She chooses some crumpled paper that was Destined for the Bin.

On the stairs, never in the day, only at night, black cat. Going to the toilet after sundown risks the chance of a broken neck here

wobblyweasel · 26/06/2025 22:12

Back when TVs were big, boxy beasts with warm tops that just invited cats to claim them as personal thrones. My boy Gizmo loved to lounge majestically on the built-in cat shelf! Watching the tv while a tail slowly swished across screen, or a paw blocked the view was pretty much the norm. You didn’t dare move him! Imagine his surprise when we got our first flat-screen!

MustDust · 26/06/2025 22:14

Across the top of the stairs, he's too dense to realise killing us cuts off his food source.

Plantladylover · 26/06/2025 22:17

oh my new kittens are just so bizarre. they stretch out on the wooden (uncomfortable floor) in the kitchen or hallway-stretching across the almost whole width of it. I just do not understand it. We have 2 fires on each night with lovely rugs in front of them which would be so comfy. Yet they insist on lying on the hard floor!

Love them both of course :)

Proper love this so much 😍😂

On the stairs. On my windpipe when I was going through chemo and they wanted to express how very with me they were. Boy cat sleeps in the log basket which inconveniences me not at all but cannot be comfortable

Twoshoesnewshoes · 26/06/2025 22:21

When my girl was a kitten she used to climb right inside the internal spiral of teen DS’ massive bass speaker and sleep in there.

Mossstitch · 26/06/2025 23:10

My late dad used to have one that slept across his shoulders whilst he played the piano .........reminded me of one of those awful fox stoles they used to have many years ago (my grandma had one hanging in her wardrobe, shudder)😖

JoanOgden · 26/06/2025 23:13

On my head, sometimes moving to lie right next to my nose and mouth, cutting off my oxygen supply. Always baffled and hurt when I move my face away.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 26/06/2025 23:13

On my chest, face inches from mine. Move an inch and I will regret it. She’s an odd one, but I wouldn’t change her.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/06/2025 23:21

Right in the doorway! She does it 4-5 times a week.

Also, at the top of the 3 steps on the way out of the back door. I have nearly gone arse over tit quite a few times.

She is definitely trying to kill me. 💀

Fizbosshoes · 26/06/2025 23:26

Both cats are partial to a pile of clean washing or ironing to sleep on in the winter.
Boy cat loves sleeping on bags - DS school bag is ok, but is very noisy if he chooses a primark paper bag!!

Oxo01 · 27/06/2025 02:49

One starts off by bedroom window above me, then ends up between 2 pillows, then comes my side of bed sleeps for 10mins and off she goes, in the morning I find her on the top of my pillow. Her purring is so load like a helicopter.
In the day she sprawls out in middle of the living room floor.

The other 1 sleeps in her cat bed but it has to be placed on the sofa she loves to be covered up in a blanket, in the morning I find her sleeping literally balancing along my arm ( I sleep on my side) or if on my back shes on my chest with her neck like a turtle just near my chin.

on my midriff as I’m lying down to sleep.

sashh · 27/06/2025 04:29

I'm often typing on MN with a cat asleep on my left arm.

She pics a place to sleep and uses it for a few weeks then changes.

Book shelf, widow sill, bed - I live alone and have a king sized bed and sometimes end up on a narrow strip at the edge.

She likes the top of the Sky box too.

Moomdingou · 27/06/2025 04:38

Bloody radiator. Like surely that must be uncomfortable, we have two towels folded over on opposite ends which he normally sleeps on but the other day he was just sleeping on the clothes. Scared incase he burns himself but he doesn’t seemed arsed.

Pretty much 🤣🤣🤣 I tried to move him when it’s on but he gets huffy so I leave him to get toasty.

Yes to this. For years my big ginger boy has slept wrapped around my head like a turban. Not so bad in winter, but neither of us enjoy it in summer...

JoanOgden · 27/06/2025 07:21

I just woke up to find myself lying on my back with my cat reposing peacefully across my throat.

ExtensivelyDecorating · 27/06/2025 07:38

Top of the stairs here too, and she's a tortie so hard to see in the dark.

The other one wedges herself in between our pillows.

During the day it varies, they do seem to adopt places for a few weeks at a time then move on. But you can guarantee that in the evenings they take over maximum sofa space.

Alongthetowpath · 27/06/2025 07:47

Our cat likes doors. His favourite place in hot weather is reclining against the wide open bathroom door - he will push the door until it is his preferred gaping open position.
This negatively impacts the privacy of whoever wants to use the bathroom, particularly as to move him you have to pick him up, while he wriggles and sinks his claws into the hall carpet to try to maintain his position. Then you have to sprint back to the bathroom in order to shut the door before he gets back there before you (he is pretty fast).
Using the bathroom in summer is a two person job.
He also likes to repose comfortably on the door mat if you open the front door so you can’t close it again, and loves to dash into any cupboard as soon as he hears you opening the door.

Other cat is more of a traditionalist and prefers to lurk on the stairs, on the computer keyboard of whoever is working from home, on the coffee table blocking the sight- line of whoever is watching television, or on a pile of freshly laundered clothes that are waiting to be put away.

Next doors cat has a preference for car windscreens, and will ignore things like the engine starting and people in a hurry trying to coax her off with feline determination.

daffodilandtulip · 27/06/2025 07:53

My old cat slept in the sink for twenty years. Then acted all offended if you needed to wash your hands.
