What has happened to Felix pouches?

ThatsWhatImTalkinAbout · 27/01/2025 14:01

Yesterday was shopping day and picked up my usual box of Felix 7 yrs+ for the cat and realised the box was more slimline than normal but still £5.00 for 12.
Got home, plonked the new box next to my near-empty box only to realised I thought I’d only bought half the usual amount. Checked the box, still 12 pouches but the weight per pouch has reduced from 100g to 85g but still charged £5.00!!
I’m already struggling to stretch out one box per week for my cat. There is no way I’ll be able to stretch this for one week. That’s just doubled the cost for as I’ll need to buy 2 boxes now. Fuming.😤

Isn't the feeding guide 2-3 pouches a day?
Honestly it looks more expensive but a higher quality food may work out cheaper in the long run. Look on zooplus for something like tinned animonda carny.

I had a friend feeding her cats whiskas and felix and her cats were always hungry, she switched to a tinned meat and her costs reduced as she wasn't having to buy so much and they were actually filled up by the food.

Floralnomad · 27/01/2025 14:06

Hope they eat it , they seem to have changed the recipe on the one our Siamese eat and they won’t touch it now . We are back to trying out different kinds again

bungobungobungo · 27/01/2025 14:09

My cat only likes Felix AGAL, and I ordered my usual two boxes a fortnight ago only for it to be substituted for the smaller size. It happened overnight. I was feeding my elderly cat 4 pouches a day and no she won't eat anything else and is already very thin!

whaddayawannado · 27/01/2025 14:09

My lot have gone right off it just lately, I think they may have tweaked the recipe. It is pretty unusual to put down three bowls of grub and for two of three furry gannets to turn their noses up and walk off.

bungobungobungo · 27/01/2025 14:10

I found some of the original ones in Home Bargains and they were about £3.50!

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 27/01/2025 14:15

You should be feeding 2/3 pouches a day anyway, personally mine have felix mixed with either minced beef or chicken, and then cat it biscuits on the side.

Bulks it out nicely.

newandconfused5 · 27/01/2025 14:16

I had this conversation with My partner last night!

There should have been some kind of notice on the box. I have been feeding my cat the normal amount before I realised for about a week. He has access to biscuits always and loads of treats.. but still! My baby could have been starving (slight over reaction 😂)...

Yep now my bill has doubled!!

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/01/2025 14:18

Could you supplement with high quality dry food such as purizon.
It will fill your cat up more.
Sack seems expensive initially but really lasts ages.

QuestionableMouse · 27/01/2025 14:19

I've swapped mine onto this

https://groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-vitacat-premium-poultry-selection-12x85g/4088600348322 which is still 85g but is significantly cheaper per box than the Felix AGAIL. Unfortunately my oldest cat is extremely picky and won't touch more premium food (she's even rejected fresh chicken) but will happily eat that.

Yes our cat pointed this out. He's a very large cat (not fat) and eats 6 sachets a day....he's now on 7.

You sound exactly how my friend was, she switched to animonda carny (tins as they work out far cheaper) and ended up saving loads as they would get full so much quicker.

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 27/01/2025 14:35

Unfortunately one of mine is a picky little shit slightly particular, and felix is the only one she’ll eat, she’s happy for it to be supplemented with mince or chicken though, and they always have access to biscuits.

purser25 · 27/01/2025 14:40

If our 6.6kilo cat ate what they recommend he would be enormous glad he can’t read he has a sachet morning and night plus some biscuits.

Blue278 · 27/01/2025 15:12

Good grief! 4 pouches a day!
Mine has top quality grain free pouches (Meowing Heads) but only one per day with one spoon of grain free kibble (scrumbles).
He’s 5.5kg.
Must surely be better to feed less food but better quality? Felix is something like 4% meat.

I've tried her on others - sh will eat Sheba Fine Flakes but does get bored of them. Got several little tins of Untamed, and some other equally expensive gourmet tins but honestly as long as she's eating something I'm happy. I know Felix isn't the best but she won't eat chicken or other meat - sometimes smoked or unsmoked salmon and occasionally tuna but not enough to survive!

Mine actually only have two pouches a day plus either steak mince or roast chicken and then biscuits.

One of mine had FIP and I had to feed her anything and everything so she’d gain weight while she was being treated. And now it’s stuck. They love their beef mince and their chicken occasionally I swap the chicken for turkey or turkey mince.

One likes sardines and tuna and such but the other one doesn’t.

I bought some of those extortionately expensive little tins (can’t remember what brand) and the one refused to touch them. Ditto felix.

I refuse to shell out for the likes of Katkin because A, it’s extortionately expensive and I’ve read too many horror stories of people being unable to cancel their orders, and B, I’ve seen how they come across on social media and they’re completely condescending.

*dito Sheba.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 27/01/2025 16:55

Ahhh this makes so much sense!
I was shaming my poor cats for being greedy bastards 😂
the only other food they will consider is the Aldi one.

Floralnomad · 27/01/2025 16:59

We’ve tried more expensive / better quality food but ours are particularly fussy , they also only eat Applaws duck biscuits / dry . They won’t eat roast chicken or meat like that but will occasionally have tuna .

I’ve got dry kibble on the side as well. But, he’s quite picky. Sometimes he just licks the jelly and leaves the meat.

Mine eats a lot each day. I’d say at least 3 pouches plus biscuits per day.
He is a solid cat but vet has never said anything worrying about his weight.

They have been very crafty. Introduced a "new" flavour combo range under the name of Duo. Got our cat hooked on it…but 15% less in every pouch! She’s noticed, Felix people, so have her owners.

Mine is very similar to yours. I’ve tried other brands of food. Tried more expensive or cheaper but end up back where I started with Felix.

I'm feeling a wee bit bad now, we were all accusing the cat of being a fatty as she's really been pulling out all the begging tricks! Poor soul
