As we approach the festive season, they're already finessing their plans and recalling last year's successes............

I have two three month old rescue babies arriving in two weeks! I'm not even going to bother with a tree...

Oh wow! That's exciting. Please show us pictures when they arrive.
We're all suckers for kittens.

Cat lady checking in to see your furry destroyers.

I may be welcoming a new void to the house soon…

So much cat tax will be provided.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/12/2024 14:07

Brilliant day yesterday. Went to a very dull church Christmas fair - had a go on the Tombola and won an expensive (£40 odd quid) bottle of liqueur. After getting home we were phoned and told we'd won first prize in the raffle - a socking great hamper.
Been going to that Christmas fair for years and never won anything before. Feel ridiculously excited to have won stuff that's very nice but we really don't need.
The cat tie in for this thread is that the church also offered to buy the empty hamper back for £25 once we've emptied it - as they like to reuse it each year. We already have a few empty hampers so that's fine with us. Just means we've have had to lock it away to stop the cats playing in destroying it . 😿 All I need to do now is to transfer my winning streak to my works lottery syndicate 🤣.
@Minesril
If your cat shut its eyes it would achieve total invisibility. Talented beast 😁

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/12/2024 14:07

And looking forward to future cat tax.

TheShellBeach · 01/12/2024 14:09

Well they day that things go in threes, Grumpy.

Surely you're going to keep the empty hamper, line it in soft blankets, and offer it to your many cats as a new bed?

No - I'm knocking the £25 off Basil's repayment schedule for his vet bill 🤣

RumNotRun · 01/12/2024 14:23

Well done Grumpy!

I'm looking forward to the new additions from @louderthan and @TiredCatLady - very exciting!

Esgaroth · 01/12/2024 15:24

Congratulations on the Christmas win! Good to start Advent on a high.

Esgaroth · 01/12/2024 15:56

As predicted, he doesn't give a shit about the tree. About the same level of interest he's shown the cat tower tbh.

Well done, Kettle! You really know how to cat.

@Esgaroth Kettle is such a star. Glad he does not mind the tree as I guess in the nordics you also have that easter thing with the eggs hanging off>

But tomorrow is another day... 😉

Esgaroth · 01/12/2024 17:17

He sat on my lap 😻

I didn't get a picture because I was too excited but after having always sat beside me before, Kettle came in from finishing his dinner and lay half on my lap for a few minutes with some major purring and head rubbing.

I feel quite emotional!

Allergictoironing · 01/12/2024 18:57

Having shown intense interest in the freezer for a week or two, Girlcat came charging in to the living room mrrowling round a live mouse in her mouth.

That was at least 3 hours ago. She keeps managing to lose it under piles of things (very messy living room), in boxes of books having thrown it up in the air & it landed in there, under furniture etc. Currently it's managed to jam itself behind 2 pipes that are really close together - unfortunately it may well cook there as they are the radiator pipes and the heating is on. Just too tight an area for me to get hold of it too, so I can't even rescue the poor thing.

Tobias meanwhile - you know, the cat who had to survive as a stray until 2 years ago - showed a small amount of interest in Girlcat's behaviour then went upstairs for a snooze. He's only come down because she's mrrowling at the mouse quite loudly so he's come to see what she's on about.

Count yourself lucky. The Matilda beast spends most of her day sleeping, often snoring like a cat pig, but she still manages to shred cardboard, eat my plants destroy the Christmas tree and I don't trust her not to try and eat tinsel.

Loved Kettle's blanket photo. After planning on getting a heated throw my sister turned up with a brand new one she got last Christmas that she was offering to lend to me until I get my radiators downstairs sorted. I appreciated the offer, but had to turn her down as there is no way I would be able to get the cat fur out of it to give back.

@Allergictoironing it's so lovely that you've given Tobias a home and he's starting to trust you. The (possibly baked) mouse situation sound disturbing though.

Esgaroth · 01/12/2024 19:26

Oh no Allergic, I hope somebody, human or feline, manages to get it out dead or alive before it starts decomposing 🤢

My childhood cat once released a live mouse inside and it chewed its way inside a bean bag. My mother had to empty out all the beans to get the bloody thing out. I can still remember her cursing the cat 😄

cooper should always wear tinsel it sets his fur off

RumNotRun · 01/12/2024 21:05

I do not believe that Cooper would do anything naughty. Look at his gorgeous innocent little face! Clearly he has been framed and not just with the tinsel.

Allergictoironing · 01/12/2024 21:12

Well she somehow managed to get the mouse out of it's oven, and charged upstairs triumphantly with it in her mouth. She charged down a little later & showed signs of her having brought it back down with her but lost it again - prowling round a certain area, at one stage sniffing & pawing at a slipper that was lying about etc. She stopped for supper and had a snooze after in one of the radiator beds, but keeps going back briefly to where it may have hidden, so current status of mouse is still ???

Tobias doesn't give a fuck & has gone up for his required 2 hour post-prandial sleep, most probably on my bed.

Estelle74uk · 01/12/2024 21:28

This just happened with my little panther !
