The last thread filled up very quickly, mainly thanks to Gizmo's adventures. He is now a fully-fledged Excellent Cat.

And it's allegedly summertime so Ho for the Hols!

@coastergirl terrible times

I hope Walter is ok

YesItsMeIDontCare · 01/08/2024 09:01

Love and (((hugs))) from me & Leroy @coastergirl - hope things go well with Walter.

TheShellBeach · 01/08/2024 09:20

@Judystilldreamsofhorses there's no question that you did the right thing having your beloved girl pts.

Our dearest Emerald was pts this time last year, and she went from seemingly well, to breathing very rapidly, to having lung cancer diagnosed, all in the space of three days. And she was pts that third day.

It's heartbreaking, but having cats pts at once saves them pain and distress, when the diagnosis is lymphoma/ cancer.

Cats don't understand pain and they hide it. They look well, when they're really, really not.

Oh @coastergirl I feel for you, living where such a terrible tragedy has happened.

And I hope with all my heart that Walter is all right.

@coastergirl fingers crossed that Walter is ok. Take care of yourself too.

One of my work colleagues lives in Southport and he sounded really shocked talking about it. Not the kind of place you'd ever expect this to happen.
Hope Walter's ok @coastergirl and hope life gets back to normal in Southport for you soon too.

It really isn't the sort of place where this kind of thing happens. It feels very surreal. There are no words for the thugs who were rioting. The town came together in the most amazing way yesterday though. People out at the crack of dawn cleaning up the mess. Local businesses and tradesmen giving their time and offering to rebuild walls, fix broken windows for free etc, counselling being offered for free too for those traumatised by the events. There's far more good than bad.

Pixiedust1234 · 01/08/2024 10:14

I agree with the others @Judystilldreamsofhorses . I think I left it too late with my beautiful girl and it's something I cannot let go. I think it's because none of the vets knew what was wrong physically but I should have known her. Louie looks absolutely adorable and I think he will help heal you both 💕

the cat distribution service tends to work its magic
This needs to stop. We keep getting "sent" starving, boney strays (on fourth one in four years!!) and each time their personality gets "tweaked". We are looking after one (waiting on cp space) that is funny/idiotic like one stray mixed with the sweetness of our soulcat. This one will be tough to give up 😞

TheShellBeach · 01/08/2024 10:18

..........the cat distribution service tends to work its magic

Hmm. So Judy gets Louie the Dancing Cat, and we get Gizmo the Biting, Hissing and Growling Cat.

Thanks, distribution service.

Ah @TheShellBeach. To be fair, when you put in your request to the cat distribution service you were delivered exactly what you ordered.

Now, had you requested a dancing cat... 🤣

Breadcat24 · 01/08/2024 11:59

@TheShellBeach
Maybe you could teach Gizmo to dance- twirling a bit of chicken on a string?

Breadcat24 · 01/08/2024 12:56

And if you do can you film it?

learieonthewildmoor · 01/08/2024 18:25

The Mumsnet Adoption service is a seperate entity, entirely independent of the cat distribution system. That might explain the difference in, er, quality. 😄

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/08/2024 20:30

Thanks for all the reassurance we did the right thing - in my heart of hearts I know we did, I just get wobbly sometimes which is stupid because what’s done is done and there’s no bringing her back. The vet actually said she would have done the same if it was her cat.

@coastergirl i’ve been following the news with such horror. It reminds me a little of Dunblane (I’m in Scotland) and even now that makes me sad just thinking about it. I hope you’re okay and also that your cat is okay.

Tonight DP got Louie to dance on command (he’s very proud of himself but it may have been coincidence, he’s - Louie - a dance-y boy) so I am excited about the BGT auditions. This sitting up at the table stunt is becoming a new fave too.

Maybe I could enter

Gizmo the Bitey Cat

on BGT.

Yes 😂 or. 🤔No?

@Judystilldreamsofhorses his little face 😍 He looks so sad, as if you're just teasing him by putting food in front of him but not sharing it. Poor little baby!

And Gizmo would win BGT possibly cause everyone would be too scared not to vote for him.

Before anyone phones the SSPCA, I put the cake down and he immediately hopped right up. That’s DP’s seat, and last week I made him switch (unheard of because we are such creatures of habit in this house) because Louie was sitting in it. No question who rules the roost here.

We could form a troup for BGT? One of my friends was a researcher on this last series so I am sure she can get us an in.

Defiantlynot41 · 01/08/2024 22:52

Ah Judy, have you not heard of the phrase "herding cats"...?😂

Does DP now sit on the floor in the corner using a special placemat decorated with fishies around the border?

Louie is incredibly cute sitting at the table but I bet it won't be long before a paw starts patting your plates 😂

I am intrigued by what looks to me like a little blue bib under his chin, in the table pics....

It says something nauseating about a little pussycat purring at your toes and nudging you with its nose, actually 😂.

He was up licking cheese sauce off a plate a few weeks ago. The other day I decided to make beans on toast, turned my back to get bread after decanting the beans to microwave and found this. The battle of the kitchen surfaces is no longer a hill I am prepared to die on. Our previous cat didn’t really bother unless there was a chicken resting (and a stern uh-uh got her down immediately) but Louie gives absolutely zero fucks for stern uh-uhs.

It’s the light/his white furry bib. I promise!

Pixiedust1234 · 01/08/2024 23:23

I found having one designated corner that she was allowed on stopped ours from walking across every single surface. She just wanted to watch us from a good height. Of course the corner we chose wasn't the one we prepared food on so that gave us a fighting chance of keeping it 😂

CatsonPollock · 01/08/2024 23:24

I think I'm in love with Louie.
(But please don't tell my 2 or they'll be posting in AIBU to ask if they should LTB!) 🙀

nettie434 · 01/08/2024 23:52

@coastergirl It must be so hard for everyone in Southport. I hope at least the outsiders coming in lose interest, or even better, get prosecuted. Also, lots of good wishes for Walter who is a lovely chap and a stalwart of the Excellent Cats.

I am so disappointed. I thought Louie was so sophisticated that he wore a little napkin around his neck!

Hope the holiday is going well @TheShellBeach. I am looking forward to finding out if Gizmo behaves himself when a trained bouncer is in charge. (Highly unlikely I realise!)
