10 year old Maine coon died this morning

Just looking for a handhold really. Went downstairs to the utility room to let him in the rest of the house and found him under the clothes horse not moving... still warm ... absolutely devastated.. kicking myself for having half an hour extra in bed .. if I was up he wouldn't have died alone ☹️ was absolutely fine when i took the dog out for a wee at 4 am ..

Oh, I'm so sorry, that would have been a dreadful shock!

did you take him to the vets? Are you getting an autopsy done? I found it a bit guilt reducing to know that even if I was there, there was nothing I could have done.

i really am sorry, it's devastating when they die, but when they haven't been unwell (I assume) it's just such a shock!

So sorry.. my 10 year old Millie cat died from cancer; I know it's so devastating when they're not old xx

Ah mate, what a terrible shock that must’ve been. Don’t spend too much time worrying about not being there, cats tend to slink off to die alone. It must’ve been quite sudden too. Really sad for you. If it helps do tell us about him.

Poor beautiful boy, I bet you gave him the best life. Sounds like he just slipped away peacefully.

They’re big cats who often die sooner than most. Cardiomyopathy is common in this breed. No point doing a PM unless in a breeding line.

Aw am so sorry it’s really tough, don’t feel bad he was alone I’m sure he knew he was loved. We had to part with our lovely ragamuffin recently and she’s left such a gap in our lives. Thoughts with you op

Thanks everyone for the kind words, was just so unexpected, no signs of illness or anything, I'm hoping it was quick .. I've buried him in the garden underneath the willow tree... can see him from my bedroom window.. he was a massive part of me and my kids lives, he outlasted every boyfriend, listened when I was sad. Would sit with me on my bed on a lazy Sunday morning while I had a cuppa, purring gently. Head butt me for cuddles, he was the best .. my best mate.

I am so sorry.

We lost our seven year old moggy in similar circumstances earlier in the year. Its absolutely devastating 💔

So very sorry for your loss, maybe in the future there will be comfort knowing he was at home in his own sleeping spot, and as other people have said, he may have wanted to pass away privately so you gave him what he wanted 💐
