......... Silent Night.........

Well, maybe not so silent when there's a cat about who wants to be fed.

Join us in the run up to Christmas 2023!

Nah, she knows full well that you love her and your mother only loves having a cat, any cat. Anything less than about a month and she will be all over you in seconds - longer than that and it may take her a couple of minutes. There's clearly a bond between the 2 of you, and despite her being young that won't vanish quickly or easily.

Velvet has decided that you are her Person and she is your Cat. Obviously she will accept the feeding and fuss from someone else if you aren't around, but that is just for convenience until you come home.

When my DSis's cat strayed a few years ago and was lost for over a month, the second he saw her he called out & went for strokes and cuddles. And this was a cat who was very much stand-offish and not into cuddles. He also had epilepsy (which is why he got lost we think) with accompanying memory issues. Plus the person who found him smothered him with food & fuss for a couple of days until they tracked down his owner & she got him back.

I used to look after my friend's German Shepherds while they were away, sometimes for up to a couple of weeks at a time. I adored them, and they adored me, we would have a fantastic time together with loads of cuddles and fuss. But the second my friend came home, they were straight over to her & her husband and stuck to them like glue, ignoring me in favour of their mum & dad.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 23/12/2023 10:40

Velvet’s only ever slept on my bed, she’s only ever been on my bed and the first thing she did after I left was jump on my mum’s bed - photo provided :(

TheShellBeach · 23/12/2023 10:43

DD's cat went missing for fourteen weeks this year.
When she came back, she cuddled in next to DD immediately.

Your mum only showed you that to wind you up and get one up on you. Your mother probably waited ages & bribed her onto the bed just so she could take a picture to metaphorically thumb her nose at you.

Of course Velvet will use your mother as a substitute while you're away. She may be a little clumsy and ditsy, but she's a Bengal so has a few smarts of some kind - she's probably worked out that indulging your mother will ensure she's looked after properly.

TheShellBeach · 23/12/2023 10:52

I truly wouldn't pay any attention to any staged photos from your mother.

Cecile - Leroy adores his pet-sitter and even he can only manage about 5 minutes of pretending to be disappointed we're back before demanding a cuddle!

Super - I assume 2nd brekkie was provided not long after that photo 😁 Have they demanded elevenses yet?

nettie434 · 23/12/2023 11:59

Good advice about Velvet, Cecile. Hope you feel better soon.

Basil sure knows how to cat.

Our resident feline is currently sulking because we put wormer on his neck.

I was incapussitated earlier by Vixen making biscuits on my chest. She concentrates very hard when making biscuits, any slight movement from me results in A Look and growling.

I have managed to escape and am having cwtches with Raven in my bed. I have lost my voice and am feeling rough so today will be spent on the sofa or napping 😁

Basil looks quite terrifying to me - not a poor starving pussycat. It's the way he's holding his ears. I was thinking this must be the look he uses when he and TC are exchanging evils. But perhaps I am projecting...

@CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau wishing you all the best, it's very clear Velvet loves you.

TheShellBeach · 23/12/2023 17:00

We have been Bad Cat Slaves.

Not only did we put wormer on Linney's neck today, but we also went out and didn't realise he was also out - which meant that he couldn't get back in until we returned.
Oops.

Poor boy ended up hiding under the seat in the front garden, waiting to pounce on us in annoyance when we got back - which he did - loudly.

It was, of course, raining heavily.

I told him it had been foolish to go out in the rain the in the first place but he was unimpressed.

Shell - Outrageous behaviour on your part. I can only imagine the looks you've been getting from Linney since 🙀

Oh Linney! It's all very well complaining about being outside but where was Picard when you needed him? He should have invited you round to his!

is that Vixen or Raven with the dear little tongue (blep), RumNotRum. It is very endearing.

RumNotRun · 24/12/2023 09:30

@nettie434 It's Vixen. She likes to blerp but often has to wiggle her tongue in and out of her mouth a few times like a deranged weirdo as she leaves it poking out for so long, it starts to dry up. My cats are odd.

Supersimkin2 · 24/12/2023 17:22

Not My Cat. Happy Christmas one and all.

My handsome snuggly Toad says he hopes everyone has a great Christmas with lots of turkey for the cats of the Litter Tray.

I found out today that I managed to get a turkey with no giblets. Frankie is not going to be happy with me tomorrow!

Dropped off my friends presents, and discover that he has a huge pack of Sheba fine flakes. Penelope has decided she's moving in with him.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 24/12/2023 20:06

@Supersimkin2 - Haveasnack in a Santa Hat 🥰 Can you get Prince in one? 🙈🙊

TheShellBeach · 24/12/2023 20:28

@Supersimkin2 Mr SB is deeply impressed that you got a NMC into a Christmas outfit.

We don’t do Christmas, but since Christmas Eve turned slightly chilly and very wet, it was a purrfect evening for a dvd and knitting.

We don’t do Christmas - well jell Catsmere. I'd fuck it off to the far side of fuck if I could 😂

Catsmere · 24/12/2023 21:28

@YesItsMeIDontCare LOL! It’s made easier because it’s just Mum and me. We haven’t bothered for a long time. And Christmas in summer always felt stupid to me anyway.

RumNotRun · 24/12/2023 22:39

We (the tribe and I) only do Christmas in as much as I cook turkey and they eat it. I also drink lots.

Every few years I have to go to my sister's house or my dad's to show willing, but we did dad's last year and the sister is in Mexico for at least a year so I get to be all grinchy at home on my own. We have no decorations other than the Hallowmas tree which is up all year, or at least all year minus the times that Fred knocks it over.

@YesItsMeIDontCare LOL I hear you.

Am joyfully opting out of the collective insanity this year. Just me and Munchkin, a family pack of bacon rolls and a choice Malbec from the wine merchants. #WINNING
