Ooh, can Velvet have a prize for self-esteem and confidence? She gets panicky when picked up but today deigned to be transported to the much warmer living room on top of a pillow. I then had to stuff the pillow into her basket, which did look silly but then again she is a past master of silly sleeping positions. I really want to get a picture of her silly sleeping stretch, where she reverses the normal paws tucked in to sleep, stretch out long to wake up and instead sleeps as if she were mid-dive into a pool and when she wakes up, crosses her paws and covers her eyes with them! It’s so cute.

Today in the wonder of Bengals…

We suspect Velvet was a breeding mother in some kind of soulless place because she only has the vaguest idea of certain cat things. For example, she knows to use the litter tray but sometimes misses and always spends ten minutes burying, had to have the catflap sellotaped open on her first outings and hasn’t really understood how doors work yet.
It’s still early days but she’s shown no desire to even approach a lap although she loves cuddles and fussing. Instead she likes to sleep at my feet after a bit of light pouncing on my toes (this includes sleeping at my feet on a blanket when I’m sitting up on the sofa). Today I was drinking a glass of water and had settled it securely against my leg in bed (not feeling v well at the moment) and she approached and knocked it over onto herself. Oddly she was entirely fine with this. I mopped it up but everything is still a bit damp. She is sleeping away unbothered!

Love the festive pictures. I don’t know how to make them but can someone do a Christmas cracker paper crown?

So some of those do sound very Bengal traits. Eko is a 1/4 Bengal and he digs like there is no tomorrow in litter boxes. Also the water thing. In a heatwave he likes nothing better than to lie on the grass and for one of us to pour a bucket or two full of water onto him 😧

@LostCats how did you come to throw water onto him in the first place? I am intrigued...

I have a new laptop stand. It's a bit wobbly and is liable to make the laptop fall on the floor if something more interesting catches its attention, but it does provide heating while in position.

So Sequential… his first summer with us he was running into the sprinkler with the kids. So then last year when it was so crazy hot and he looked rough from it, I asked DS to pour some water on him from the paddling pool. Which he did. And Eko didn’t move. So we did a bucket. Still didn’t move. So we did another (slowly each time) after which he stood up, happily shook himself off all refreshed and headed off questing again.
The entire family sat stunned for about 5 minutes

He has assumed the sad, pleading eyes to perfection.

Need a bit of a paw hold as I’m in hospital and missing Velvet, and worrying she’s going to go off me while I’m away because there will be nobody to snooze with or play with or she might adopt my mother instead. :(

And Cecile, although we all joke about cats not being especially pally with us, they do know who we are, they do recognise us, and they do miss us when we're absent.
