Stop chasing shrews, mice and birds and join us here.
Less well-behaved cats especially welcome.

@YesItsMeIDontCare My warm, well padded, thighs meant that any cats I had reluctantly moved wouldn't hold a grudge for long.
IYSWIM.

RumNotRun · 01/10/2023 21:53

My beautiful handsome boy Toad is a weirdo. He has my whole fat thigh lap to lie on but instead chooses to squish between my legs and the arm of the sofa.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 02/10/2023 07:48

Warm on 3 sides Rum 😁

RumNotRun · 02/10/2023 09:42

Today he is "helping" me work.

Think it must be autumn as Gomez has been glued to my lap every time I sit down since Friday 🤣🤣 hope she continues through the winter as it will save me heating money 👍

Papergirl1968 · 02/10/2023 20:56

Autumn is definitely here. Matt has taken to cuddling up against me on the sofa (if he can get prime spot before the dog does) and even Socks is preferring to be in the house when it's wet and cold. All three are joining me on (or in) the bed at various times of the night.

RumNotRun · 02/10/2023 21:25

I've been abandoned tonight. I've had a few deliveries today (mainly cat food) so there are a million cardboard boxes in the kitchen waiting to be broken down and put in the recycling. Clearly new cardboard boxes are more appealing than cwtching with an old woman. Sigh.

RumNotRun · 02/10/2023 22:36

Snugglebutt Toad is back, not at all bribed with Dreamies honest!

DH had his first chemo today. His arm hurts and he's horrified at the amount of tablets he has to take a day - welcome to my world, pal 🙄 Bit down in the dumps but not too bad considering.

Leroy gives absolutely no fucks whatsoever and is currently rampaging around downstairs with a cork. We have wooden floors downstairs. It is NOT quiet 🤦🏼‍♀️ He'll be up in about 10 minutes for a cuddle and all will be forgiven 🥰

ImNotWorthy · 02/10/2023 23:08

Oh to have a cat rampaging somewhere in my flat. But I have thought about it and it wouldn't work. What I really want is a couple of visiting NMCs.

@YesItsMeIDontCare I seem to remember hearing that cats' purrs are actually healing, to humans as well as the cat themself. All the best to your DH, and yourself BrewBrew

Allergictoironing · 03/10/2023 07:56

Wish me luck ladies & Grumpy - Tobias has his MoT this morning.

I've left the carry case right by the downstairs feeding station for a month.
Replaced the front door and opened the top door last night
I've been slowly stroking him a bit more when he's eating downstairs wet food (only time I'm allowed to touch), and getting him used to strokes down his sides as well as his back.
I've only fed them 1/3 of a pouch downstairs this morning so far and none upstairs (usually 1/2 pouch each half to one hour apart).
I have put on my thickest jeans today. Leather gloves at the ready. Thick puffy jacket that is already a bit ratty looking at the ready.
Treats that he likes already scattered among the towel and blanket in the box - towel & blanket NOT washed since he came home & after Girlcat's MoT so it smells of them (no pee!).

Plan is to offer a second downstairs breakfast around 20-30 minutes before we need to leave for the vet, and snaffle him then. Should give me enough time to clear up any puddles of blood & dress wounds, and put some H.A.M. in a bag to feed him little bits throughout the ordeal of his torture.

Have I missed anything in the planning?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/10/2023 08:06

Goid luck Allergic, and best wishes to the lovely Tobias. I was going to mention gauntlets but then noticed the reference to leather gloves at the ready, so you've obviously thought of everything.
Hope you are taking a means of photographing the experience carnage 😁.

nettie434 · 03/10/2023 08:16

Good luck with the Tobias MOT, Allergic! Hope the expelling TC from Grumpy's kitchen levels of protection are not needed.

Yesitsmeidontcare, hope Mr Yes is feeling as ok as possible and that Leroy has been a good therapy cat.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/10/2023 08:26

Apologies Yes, missed your update. Very rough for your DH having to go through this, hope that he feels a bit brighter this morning.

Allergictoironing · 03/10/2023 08:54

Well that didn't QUITE go to plan, but mission accomplished eventually. Damn that cat is wriggly!

Made the grab while he was eating, but he twisted like a twisty thing & got away & fled to his bedroom. Got a heavier duty coat on & went in there with a large towel & shut the door. Cue mad chasing around the room with me digging him out of his favorite hiding places & slowly eliminating them - luckily there's a divan bed in there so he couldn't get under that.

Then he made the fatal mistake - he dived into the igloo. Simple job to block the entrance with the towel and carry the entire thing downstairs - igloo, towel & madly wriggling cat. Tipped him in the carrier & got the lid shut.

Now resting my back which is screaming at me after that despite max Co-Codamol & Naproxen this morning. I have 10-15 mins before we are due to leave so once I can stand & walk again I will offer him H.A.M. as a peace offering.

Allergictoironing · 03/10/2023 10:47

Went a bit better than expected. Sorry no pics, but a) was concentrating on the cat & didn't think and b) all they would have shown was a miserable shivering lump. As a bonus, no injuries to vet!

He stayed hunched down very miserable through most of his exam and his booster jab, then managed to sneak out & hid under the vet's desk. She managed to get him out with a towel (though at my suggestion had a nurse on standby with gauntlets) and did his spot on for me then having weighed the crate earlier when he was under the desk, weighed the crate with him in. He's put on weight since he came home!

He sneaked behind the sofa when we got in, and I've left that room to let the poor thing settle.

Papergirl1968 · 03/10/2023 11:17

Well done, Allergic and Tobias! Sounds like you need a lie down now.
All the best to your DH, Yes. Such a difficult time for you both.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 03/10/2023 11:35

Thanks guys 😊 His arm still hurts but he feels well. It's a nice day so I shall boot him out in to the garden (well wrapped up!) for some fresh air and a bit of peace and quiet.

Big well done to Tobes for having to deal with this morning's horrors and getting through it with (what sounds like) only mild trauma. Leroy sends healing purrs.
(DH did not get any because he didn't play Ribbon last night.)

Supersimkin2 · 03/10/2023 14:11

All the vibez to DH, Yes, chemo is not a laff but some people don’t react too grimly. DH might not be too bad. Garden a fine plan, lowers the blood pressure apart from it’s healing advantages.

Leroy being very helpful as ever.

🎉 to Tobias and Allergic. He must be pleased to be home. Ham later.

I’ve had to leave the back door open 24/7 cos Havelock wails otherwise. Here he is swearing blind he would never touch another’s AGAIL.

I'm keeping you both in my prayers.

Linney is driving us mad today.
It's raining like crazy so he keeps miaowing to be let out, then miaowing to be let back in again.

Hmm

Why can't I just point it and press a button?

All the vibez to DH,

From me too and the furry ones.

It's quite chilly this evening and Sybil and Basil have clearly noticed. I think the crossed tails are rather sweet.
