Shady is adamant he's "just a baby" and not responsible for any of the chaos yesterday that he caused

Chaos yesterday? Tell me more, tell me more (to quote from the song).

Florissante · 06/07/2023 08:26

Awww. How could you be angry with that face?

Chaos yesterday? Tell me more, tell me more (to quote from the song).

Yesterday he
Chased a fly for a good 2hrs
Tried to climb behind the fridge
Yanked some bunting down
Demanded I play fetch for an hour
Refuse all food and then sulked when stinky ate it and swiped at his tail
Attempted to catch a bird (he won’t eat raw food so I don’t know what he was planning with it)
Clambered under the rug for no good reason

Confused
Florissante · 06/07/2023 09:06

Shady, have you been taking naughty pills?

bonfirebash · 06/07/2023 09:09

I mean it's an improvement from trying to yank the sealant off the bath with his teeth
I've never had a young cat (Ollie was my first) so it's all very new
Paws seems positively angelic Grin

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/07/2023 13:38

I’m so sorry Shell.

I also wasn’t watching this thread so am belated with condolences.

TheShellBeach · 06/07/2023 14:38

I've read every single one of your messages several times and they have sustained me so much.

Linney still seems to be okay at the moment. Actually he seems to be enjoying being allowed to eat his Dreamies without his sister pinching them.
We have rebooked our holiday, and the cottage owner was very kind.

The food last night was wonderful. A muted birthday.

........ and since this thread is about cats who are less than well-behaved, here is Cleo, DD's cat, wearing her "Elizabethan" collar of shame.

Cleo (see above) once pulled half a skirting board off in DD's kitchen.

One of my previous cats, Palinka, managed to break into a house across the garden from me, then clawed open their fridge. The woman got home to discover a strange NHC (Not Her Cat) tucking into some cooked chicken she'd kept in the fridge.

Thankfully she loved cats so understood that he was just being an asshole cat. She bought child locks for her fridge after that

They have no shame.

It's a chicken thing. Many years ago we lived in a maisonette in West London. Our lovely upstairs neighbour was almost apologetic when she told us that one of our cats had broken into her flat and made off with a raw chicken breast she'd got in for her tea. This was the same neighbour who put cups of beer down round her plants to keep the cats off. The same cat was spotted drinking them!
Little furry bastard 😁.

TheShellBeach · 06/07/2023 18:29

I remember serving a roast chicken dinner and Toby jumped on to the table and made off with a chicken leg.

Ha I remember our first cat Rosie forty years ago - Aunty was just slicing up the turkey and Rosie jumped up, stole the slice and made off with it. Aunty chased her but had to concede in the end. Such an embarrassment. She also used to steal lamp chops from under the grill, little tinker! 😹

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 06/07/2023 18:42

LAMB chops (don't know what lamp chops are).🥩

Tiqtaq · 06/07/2023 18:59

It's so very very hard to lose a pet.
Be gentle with yourselves.

My first cat died 3 years ago and I still miss her a lot. We have two brothers now who are coming up two years old, I love them but they just aren't her, she was my special cat.

I think giving a cat a good death is an incredible gift and one that many humans would be grateful for.
Emerald was well loved indeed.Flowers

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/07/2023 19:02

Dug out an old photo of the chicken stealing cat (and his brother behind).

He was very food oriented and growled while eating if he had anything he really liked, which of course just alerted our other two that he had something good 😹.

Reads the 'chaos' list of the things Shady has done. Looks at photo of Shady. Refuses to believe anything on the chaos list.

A big difference between cats and dogs is that cats never look guilty. I was staying at my friends one time. They had a radiator airer in their spare room. I woke up one night to an awful clatter of the airer hitting the ground. I knew it was their cat trying to get onto the window sill but by the time I had turned on the light he had rushed to the middle of the room, and sat there with his paws tucked up and an expression like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.

prettybird · 06/07/2023 22:25

I'll let you lot laugh or be horrified at the following true story.

The cat on the left (Cosmo) died two weeks after the picture was taken of him in the planter (bloody hit and run by a speeding car Angryoutside a nursery we didn't know he visited because he was a tart who loved the attention from the wee kids Sad). That was 6 years ago Sad We couldn't work out a suitably "special" place to bury him in the garden, so put him in the freezer until we'd worked out somewhere suitable Blush

The cat on the right in the first picture (Cleo) had been desperately lonely after Cosmo died so we got the brothers (Frasier and Niles) to keep her company. She hated them at first (as she had Cosmo Hmm, when we'd got him as company for Cleo because she had too much energy for our older cat, Muscat who was 9 years older than her after we'd got Cleo to keep Muscat company after her brother died of kidney failure ) but had eventually come round Wink (as you can see in the 3rd photo).

Cleo died 3 years later (an example of when we should have had her PTS a few days before she died Sad). We put her in the freezer too Shock until we'd worked out where to put her Blush

We have finally worked out where to bury them - together, under the pear tree, where dh is building in a new "terrasse" there: they used to love being close to us.

Just to be clear: this is a spare freezer that we have in the garage Grin

I remember that one night when I was called out to deliver a baby, DH (in his infinite wisdom) took a whole roast leg of lamb up to our bedroom and put it on the floor next to our bed.

No, I don't know why, either.

The famous Toby discovered it and tucked in joyfully while DH went downstairs for the mint sauce.

The ways of men and cats are incalculable.

@TheShellBeach that's ... bonkers, I can't conceive of a single reason to take a roasted leg of lamb upstairs

My childhood cat stole a whole joint of beef from the (switched off ) oven ( including the string which later reappeared).

Currently walking the tightrope of feeding up DCat 2 whose weight has dropped to 2.7 kg whilst avoiding any increases for her sister who is 4.5kg

It appears to be impossible to open a packet of sliced turkey without the wrong one appearing

TheLongRider · 07/07/2023 03:06

May I also give belated condolences for Emerald. She looked like an old cat of mine who was the terror of all the local dogs. I hope you find a nice sunny place for her remains. Be kind to yourself, you definitely made the best decision for her.

TheLongRider · 07/07/2023 03:09

Our current foster kittens are of to the shelter in the morning for adoption. They are fabulous, confident, sociable little kittens and they'll make great pets.

coastergirl · 07/07/2023 03:21

The story about the leg of lamb really made me laugh. Not a good thing with broken ribs! This afternoon I managed to miss the bottom step again and fall, right over on my ankle which immediately ballooned. Another few hours in A&E and it's thankfully not broken, just badly sprained, very swollen and turning purple. I'm now scouring RightMove for a bungalow. As soon as I got back from hospital, Walter tried to trip me up.
