I would consider Siberian cats. Placid, affectionate and mine is in need of regular lap time. He gives me nose nuzzles and loves human company.

Not stupid either.

He is SO beautiful @orangeblosssom

I have a Birman, they look a bit like ragdolls. But are meant to be a bit cleverer I think. Mine certainly comes and greets me at the door and is quite dog like. He’s so affectionate it’s untrue, he snuggles up on my shoulder in bed.

certainly wouldn’t let him outside, would worry about him being stolen.

for those worried about cat litter trays you can get a robot cat litter tray for about £300 which I think packages all the poo and wet litter up.

This is my Birman.

They are thick as mince. I wouldn't let them out of the house unsupervised.

MyBiscuitspread · 21/05/2023 21:09

@orangeblosssom he's gorgeous! You're right, they might be more suitable for us as well, as they are more likely to be hypoallergenic than ragdolls. Are Siberians indoor only cats as well?
Sadly, they tend to be much more expensive than ragdolls though...

caringcarer · 21/05/2023 21:41

A bit dopey
High maintenance
Loving and affectionate
Likes sleeping indoors

orangeblosssom · 22/05/2023 07:04

Siberians don't have to be indoor but mine spends his time indoors and the garden only.

I bought him from Maria:

@orangeblosssom what is their personality like? We want to get another kitten as a buddy for our Russian Blue (and to fil the hole in our hearts from losing our lovely Balinese) but it needs to be hypoallergenic due to DH's asthma. Seems a Siberian is. We were going to go for another Balinese because they are so loving and friendly, but your guy is beautiful, so if he has a similar personality, maybe a Siberian could be the way forward too (especially if he doesn't tend to roam far) thank you

orangeblosssom · 22/05/2023 10:43

Friendly, affectionate. Runs to the door when I get back from work.
Enjoys lap time.
Diplomatic as he wants cuddles from the entire family and shares his time between us.

Late to the post but they are the most utterly utterly wonderful things!

My parents have 2 and when I moved out I knew it was the breed I wanted

She is my absolute world! They mustn't go out alone due to being a desirable breed and also they have no sense of danger

Mine is the most wonderful character. She isn't a lap cat but loves to be "with" her people. She will sometimes smooch on a lap but only for about 5 minutes, I think because they are bigger, they prefer their own throne

Oh the sass!! If she's told off that fluffy tail goes with a flick flick, and she will stomp about the house with it bumping along the floor! When she's lit up, it goes right up and over her back when she's crouched down lying in wait

She absolutely adores me as she knows I worship her, OH she's much more dismissive of because he's more ambivalent towards her and doesn't tell her how utterly wonderful she is.

She's very chatty, she also has a catnip "sheepie snake" which is a sheepskin ball with "tail" and will carry it around on occasion, howling to tell you she has it! She likes you acknowledging this

Ragdolls are definitely prone to obsessions! The current thing for mine is "toilet" or "bath time" - she will come in for a smooch when you're on the loo, or dash into the bath before you want to turn the shower on! If not invited in she will demand to come in!

Ragdolls are not the most obedient!

I agree they act dim, but they're secretly devious little plotters!

I couldn't have anything else, they are just absolutely wonderful and I'd have more if I could!

It's definitely true they're more like a dog than cat, following you about and being interested in what you're up to❤️
