Vomiting

Woke up this morning to some sick in the hallway which we put down to him being in the garden and eating grass or something. But DD got home from school to little puddles of sick (looks like spit). When we got home he was sick another 4 times, we had a panic that he'd had a slug pellet as there was a little blue spec in the spit. Then he threw up a little piece of a blue and yellow flip flop so we realised it wasn't poison and took him to the emergency vet. They've checked him said he's healthy and gave us something to help clear his stomach out. Now we've got home, he's been sick again and he's just sitting in random corners of the room not looking at anything.

Do I need to worry? Do I leave him he just needs to recover from the sick, I think he's barely slept today. Should I give him the medicine the dr gave us? Or let him have a rest and have it in the morning?

Just a little bump.

I managed to get a tiny bit of medicine down him, he was last sick at 1230. He seems to be trying to sleep now but can't get comfortable, I'm wondering if his stomach is hurting from the vomiting. How long can they go without food and water?

I'd be concerned about and would be taking him back to the vets today if he doesn't eat or drink soon.

hartof · 16/05/2023 12:54

We've been back this morning. He's had an anti sickness injection and he has managed a few hours sleep. She said he won't eat today but he's not interested in his water yet he's just sitting on the floor. The vet did say there's nothing to indicate any blockages and as he's not been sick since last night that's a good sign so hopefully he just needs to recover now.

Dcat has been in the vets all day today, he didn't eat or drink yesterday so they wanted him to be admitted. They told me he would have fluids and some tests. They called us to say he would be ready for collection at 3.30, he'd been very bitey when they tried to do a the fluid line so they sedated him but didn't give him fluids?

I'm so confused why not. The reason I wanted him to go back was for fluids. They scanned and xrayed him there's nothing blocked but he does need to poo. He's home now, he's very twitchy his whole body is shakey. He's had a little bit of water but still no interest in food. The vet said he must eat, they have a tablet to make him hungry, but they forgot to give it us so we'll have to go back tomorrow.

I just need some reassurance because I'm very worried about him.

I realise I'm talking to myself, can anyone even see my thread?

Dcat wasn't doing too well this morning still no interest in food or water and no litter tray visits. DH stayed at home all day with him he kept trying to drink water but couldn't. We've just left him at the emergency vets for overnight fluids and monitoring. He was sick again before we went loads of brown liquid and a bit more flip flop came up. I am now even more convinced he has a blockage.

Please if you do pray please pray for my boy tonight. He's called Rocco, he's nearly 3 he's the funniest loveliest cat. He sleeps on our bed every night, follows us around the house, loves belly strokes and sleeping spread eagle. It will absolutely break my heart if he doesn't make it.

He's. Gorgeous boy. Keeping all
Of our paws crossed for him here.

Lovemusic33 · 18/05/2023 21:55

Sending positive vibes for Rocco, I hope he makes a speedy recovery and it’s nothing too serious. If he doesn’t poo soon then I would thing that there is a blockage which maybe isn’t being picked up on a X-ray?

MyEyesAreBleeding · 18/05/2023 21:56

He's so striking. Handsome boy.

What a worry. Your vets sound a bit... Flaky? Write a list of things you need to check for when you go to pick him up. I can get easily distracted amongst all the fuss so find this helpful.

Poor wee man. Hopefully the vet intervention has him up and raring to go. 😽

Theunamedcat · 18/05/2023 21:59

Aww poor little dude fingers and paws crossed

Well that's what we're now thinking, they seem to be scared of cats and if they get angry. DH wants to dispute their part of the bill from yesterday. He's at a different vet tonight because ours doesn't have overnight service, and this vet gives me much more confidence. I feel like he's in safe hands.

What’s with the flip flop, has he been chewing it? You say he had a scan as well as a X-Ray so you you’d think any blockage would show up on the scan?

Hopefully he perks up soon 🤞

hartof · 18/05/2023 22:06

And they tried to pass it off as constipation but he poked on Monday so I don't see how by Wednesday he would be constipated.

He's been chewing at DHs Havianas. I put them on top of the fridge to keep them away as we have sliding wardrobe doors and he's figured out how to get in there. But it at weekend he was on top of the larder unit next to the fridge so we think that's when he's had most of it.

Little weirdo 😆
How was he overnight, any improvement?

hartof · 19/05/2023 11:54

Call from the vet this morning he has tested positive for pancreatitis but they said it can come back positive if there is a blockage. So they are going to repeat the x Ray, haven't heard anything since then. They said he's settled.

He's gone into surgery his stomach is 3 times the size it should be.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 19/05/2023 15:09

Oh no. Lots of positive thoughts your way 💕

Nandocushion · 19/05/2023 15:52

Fingers crossed for you OP.

Lovemusic33 · 19/05/2023 15:57

My dog had a blockage and her pancreas almost died it was badly damaged, she had major surgery to remove the blockage and survived but a year later it happened again and she wasn’t as lucky (she was getting old and couldn’t cope with such a big surgery again).

Your cat is young and I’m sure he will make a quick recovery once they have removed the cause. Keeping everything crossed that you get him back home soon.

hartof · 19/05/2023 22:51

He's out, the flip flop has been retrieved. Foamy shoes will be banned from this household forevermore. They said he's come back round so quickly so that sounds very much like my little boy 💙 I can't wait to have him home the house feels eerily empty with 3 of us in it.

OP posts:
TabithaTitanium · 19/05/2023 23:15

Oh bless him, hope he makes a full recovery and is home soon.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 19/05/2023 23:25

So it was all the flip flops fault? My goodness, so glad he is OK. What a relief

hartof · 19/05/2023 23:32

Yep. He's a very chewy cat so I have no idea what we'll do

OP posts:
1vandal2 · 19/05/2023 23:46

I can't believe the first vet didn't take it more seriously when you said it was flip flop 🙁
Give him all of the love. He might stay away from objects with similar textures in future but equally he might not.
Just glad to hear he's gotten some proper treatment now.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 19/05/2023 23:50

One of our past cats had pica, I understand. All you can do is your best to try keep his fave textures safely away. It's very difficult. I always joked she had ADHD in a way. She chewed the shit out of the top of my wooden dining room chairs.

One day at a time.
