Vomiting

Woke up this morning to some sick in the hallway which we put down to him being in the garden and eating grass or something. But DD got home from school to little puddles of sick (looks like spit). When we got home he was sick another 4 times, we had a panic that he'd had a slug pellet as there was a little blue spec in the spit. Then he threw up a little piece of a blue and yellow flip flop so we realised it wasn't poison and took him to the emergency vet. They've checked him said he's healthy and gave us something to help clear his stomach out. Now we've got home, he's been sick again and he's just sitting in random corners of the room not looking at anything.

Do I need to worry? Do I leave him he just needs to recover from the sick, I think he's barely slept today. Should I give him the medicine the dr gave us? Or let him have a rest and have it in the morning?

Wow - your first vet nearly killed him.
I'm sorry I didn't see your thread until this evening.
I've just read it, worrying that it would have a sad ending.
Thank goodness he's okay now. What a gorgeous boy!

My late cat liked plastic sweet wrappers. She wasn't very bright, so I thought they were safe in the bin. Then caught her knocking it over to get them out. I got more careful after that. But had to chase her round a few times to retrieve a wrapper covered in slobber!

I know. We will be changing vets now, when we took him to the emergency vet we honestly thought this was it we'd lost him.

OP I'm sorry you've had such a nightmare with your lovely boy. Thank goodness you had enough sense to question the first vet and take him back.

I'd be furious and would want an apology and a refund.

I just knew he wasn't right and there was a blockage. I'm so upset he had to suffer for an extra 2 days before I could get him the right care.

With the first vet we filled in an insurance claim form, the emergency vet said they'll take over the claim. I don't know if to speak to my insurance company and explain and do they dispute it or do I?

The vet said he is sat up and is bright but hasn't eaten yet. That was at 9.30, they said they'd call us at lunch with another update. I just want him home the house feels empty, I want him to know we haven't just abandoned him and also I'm concerned about the bill he is running up!

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 20/05/2023 12:00

It sounds like most of the bill should be covered by insurance.
I hope so anyway.
I'm glad he's brighter today.

hartof · 20/05/2023 13:33

It won't, my limit is £2000. The visit on Wednesday was £990 for the vet who failed to spot it. When we spoke to the vet yesterday they said we were upto £2000 with them including the surgery. And now he's not eating they might have to put him on a feeding tube and keep him in.

TabithaTitanium · 20/05/2023 14:58

Well I’d be querying the first vets treatment as they didn’t even discover what was wrong!!! What was the £990 for? Just a scan and an X-ray? If the emergency vets spotted the blockage with an X-ray, I’d refuse to pay the first vet for the X-ray as they obviously didn’t use it/read it properly. No way would I be paying nearly a grand when they flipping nearly caused your cat to die with their incompetence.

TheShellBeach · 20/05/2023 15:04

I would not pay the first vet.
They nearly killed your cat and their actions caused him needless suffering.

hartof · 20/05/2023 18:06

I'm really glad you've all said that because our instinct is to refuse to pay the first vet.

We've been to see him with his favourite foods to get him to eat. He was much brighter, happy to see us with lots of cheek rubs. But he wouldn't eat, they are putting him on a feeding tube now.

He must still be feeling rough after all he's been through.
I think he'll turn a corner tomorrow. I'm glad you went to see him.

lljkk · 20/05/2023 19:35

wow, glad to hear he's better & hope you can do something to reduce that bill

TheShellBeach · 21/05/2023 16:17

How's Rocco today?

hartof · 21/05/2023 16:58

He was put on the feeding tube last night, I spoke to the vet this morning he was bright and happy and had done a poo. So they want him to have a good 24h on the tube and get him eating.

I'm hoping we get him home tomorrow if everyone can send eating vides to Rocco!

I usually ring at this time as the nurse on night shift is the one who saw us when we took him in. But I'm so worried she's going to say he still hasn't eaten, DH thinks we need to take him home tomorrow no matter what. My anxiety is through the roof right now

OP posts:
morelippy · 21/05/2023 21:07

@hartof let us know what they say

If he's recovered from his op he may be better at home and you can tempt him with his favourite foods

TheShellBeach · 21/05/2023 21:08

I'm not surprised you're worried.
I would be too, after all this.
Maybe your husband has a point. Rocco might eat at home, in familiar surroundings.

hartof · 21/05/2023 21:18

If they don't ring me I'm not going to call. No news is good news, it's now 24 hours since he went on the feeding tube which is what the vet wanted. One of us will call in the morning and tell them we think he needs to come home

OP posts:
TabithaTitanium · 21/05/2023 21:44

Yes he'll feel better once his home, bless him.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 22/05/2023 05:52

Oh you poor thing. You've been in such a roller coaster ride. I can't believe the incompetence of the first vet, and that bill 🤯.

Poor wee cat. Very very glad to hear he has been to the loo. Praying to the kitty gods for a positive update for you today. It must be so stressful 💕🐱
