Vomiting

Woke up this morning to some sick in the hallway which we put down to him being in the garden and eating grass or something. But DD got home from school to little puddles of sick (looks like spit). When we got home he was sick another 4 times, we had a panic that he'd had a slug pellet as there was a little blue spec in the spit. Then he threw up a little piece of a blue and yellow flip flop so we realised it wasn't poison and took him to the emergency vet. They've checked him said he's healthy and gave us something to help clear his stomach out. Now we've got home, he's been sick again and he's just sitting in random corners of the room not looking at anything.

Do I need to worry? Do I leave him he just needs to recover from the sick, I think he's barely slept today. Should I give him the medicine the dr gave us? Or let him have a rest and have it in the morning?

He's home. He wouldn't eat for the vet but was getting very distressed so they think he'll be better off at home. We've been home about an hour he's hiding under the sofa currently, 🤞🤞 he starts eating soon.

Oh bless his little heart, he’s been through the wars. Hopefully once he’s settled he could be tempted by a lick-e-lix or a couple of dreamies, or I suppose chicken would be a more sensible option after what his poor stomach has been through. No bloody shoes though 😂
🤞🤞

TheShellBeach · 22/05/2023 15:26

Oh poor little man.
I'm so sad for him.
I think, now you've got him home, that he'll calm down and start eating.

hartof · 22/05/2023 15:35

There's lots and lots of head bumps and happy sounds coming from him. He's had a big groom (but still looks tatty) he looks so much better than he was last week.

He's had a couple of bites of his dry food, DH put a lik e lix out and he stuck his head in the bowl and walked away and they are his favourite. I need him to eat as I've got to give him medication and the only way I'll get it in him is through food.

Our cat used to love things like bits of cheese and I used to buy the bags of cheap frozen prawns to hide meds in.

OnTheBoardwalk · 22/05/2023 21:45

Ah him having a poo and a couple of bites is a good sign. Hope he's feeling a bit better

I would lodge a complaint with your insurance company for the first vets charges. £900 for incompetence- no way

hartof · 22/05/2023 21:50

He's just gone for more food 🥳 I am emailing my insurance tomorrow to tell them not to accept the claim and dh is sending in the dispute. I suffer with terrible anxiety (my stomach has felt like a washing machine for the past week) so I've asked him to take control. We absolutely can't afford to pay them because the vets bill for the surgery and his stay was £2689. Our insurance limit is £2000

TabithaTitanium · 22/05/2023 21:56

Glad to hear he’s obviously on the mend.
Yeah there’s no way I’d be paying that first vet, I’d let them take me to court before I flipping paid it 🤬

TheShellBeach · 22/05/2023 22:23

Yay!
He's started eating!

TheShellBeach · 24/05/2023 10:43

How's Rocco today?

hartof · 24/05/2023 14:59

He seems brighter and more like himself, but he's spent the past two nights asleep on top of the kitchen cupboards. He's only eating little bites of dry food, won't entertain lik e lix. He goes to his bowl and his food cupboard but when we offer it, it's like it turned his stomach. I don't know if they remind him of the sick.

I'll try some different things tonight. He's been through a lot though so I imagine it will take him a while to get back to normal and to eat his usual amount.

It sounds like he's on the mend now.
Poor fella.

hartof · 24/05/2023 18:19

We just got one of the encore tuna fillets (usually a weekend treat) and he enjoyed a bit of that. I think we're moving in the right direction, however I haven't managed to get any medicine in him. Since yesterday and one of the medicines is a tablet and that is antibiotics 😩 he will not take tablets.

Yep. He's a very chewy cat so I have no idea what we'll do

You can definitely trust your instincts. You knew something wasn’t right and kept going back for help and that’s been the right thing to do. You definitely want to trust the vet you have.

LacewingOrpington · 24/05/2023 18:26

We usually give our freshly cooked chicken when they’ve had stomach issues. Always seems to be the first food that tempts them back and it’s easy for them to digest.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 24/05/2023 20:13

I always did poached chicken for sick kitties. Poor wee thing. At least he's on the road to recovery.

Re the medication, gentle force is the only way I've ever been able to get tablets in. Short term agony, long term gain I guess. Mum's cat would take tablets coated in butter but my last two sick kits would just spit a tablet straight out

Mia184 · 24/05/2023 20:55

Poached chicken as PP suggested or poached salmon to hide the pill im.

TheShellBeach · 24/05/2023 20:57

Mine would kill for tinned tuna.

hartof · 24/05/2023 21:40

He had a bit of lik e lix before but only from the tube not the bowl like usual. So I crushed half a tablet and mixed with it then spread it on the tube, he had a bit then spotted the tablet mixed in and stopped 🙄 I'll try another method tomorrow.

The next problem is he has loads of glue on his head where they stuck the feeding tube down and it's bothering him he keeps trying to groom it out and I think he's irritating the skin. No idea how to get it out of his fur.

You can buy plaster remover from Amazon.
I expect you can also get it in chemist's shops.

Kyse23 · 24/05/2023 22:00

Does he like cat soup? Or thrive/Cosma wet food that's like shredded chicken with loads of juice?
That's really easy to hide meds in

He loves cat soups that was my plan for tomorrow.

ah hope he starts eating tomorrow. Tuna is my go to food

one cat hated chicken and would only eat turkey. The eat rodents and anything they find on the floor. How can they be so picky!

Mia184 · 25/05/2023 20:06

How is your cat doing?
