DCat3 this morning stoned on catnip after rolling in it and his usually immaculate soft as satin black fur covered in catnip.

Anyone else have to spend a fortune on a top of the range cat tree as their furry overlords fat behinds could not fit in the standard ones? I’ve got a floor to ceiling one with 4 hammock beds as how are 4 cats supposed to snooze in peace although as it has been a bit sunny the past few days and the sun is a little bit warm again they have starting following the sun around the house sunbathing.

By the way, I took Emerald to the vet last week and she was weighed - and she'd lost 650g! Three rousing cheers!

DH and I were amazed because we'd given up trying with her supposed diet.
Taking her to Cat Slimming World was was so dispiriting and the diet cat food cost an arm and a leg so it was a great surprise to find she'd actually lost weight at last.

Yay!

Hello, just started reading Mumsnet and this is a really encouraging message to see! I’m also struggling to get my Daisy’s weight down (she gains weight on every weight control food I’ve tried) and it’s good to see just how slow a process it is. Well done you and Emerald!

This is Daisy, who’s just been adding more catsmere to my jumper, and Phoebe (sitting on my lap - she’s much more trim).

Prince went out in the night while I was staggering for a wee. He waited till I’d sat down and flew back through the top bathroom window, spreadeagled, before landing on my face.

Naturally, you are as proud as punch.

On an unrelated topic....

HELLLLLLLP

I need a copy of some ancient scrolls that depict the honours bestowed upon me by the Higher-Ups following my Coming-Of-Age Ritual known as "The Geesee Essees"

  1. I cannot find the originals
  2. It was 34yrs ago
  3. I have no idea who the Exam Board was.
  4. My school no longer exists.

WTF do I do????

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/03/2023 20:54

@YesItsMeIDontCare
Do you have any old school friends who could remind you of the board you sat the exams with?
If you know that the rest is easy through the government website.
Or search your old school on t'interweb and see if there is an active chat to ask the question on.

Allergictoironing · 30/03/2023 21:17

I was asked for mine at an interview last year. I gently pointed out that at age 61 and many professional qualifications around project management, did they really need O level certs. Originally they asked for GCSEs and were confused when I said those didn't exist when I was that age!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/03/2023 21:41

I'm similarly aged to you Allergic. I don't think I've ever been asked for any certificates since my first 'proper' job in the mid '80s. I converted from contract to perm in my current role last year (Government agency). They didn't demand any certificates either. If anyone asked me for my O level certificates I'd also just ask them why on earth they thought that was relevant.
Mind you - my CV doesn't have any reference to my school results anyway.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 30/03/2023 21:55

You lot are cleverer than me 😁 I don't have anything since my GCSEs so I guess they need something. I have a friend on the case though. Funnily enough my best mate, who I met at a post-natal group, went to the same school as me but she was a few years ahead and did O-levels.

I shall see how we get on. I really want the job though - Dreamies are not cheap.

RavenT · 30/03/2023 22:12

Catsmere I had a Daisy cat who was the spitting image of your Daisy! 😍
She too struggled with her weight. She arrived as a plump rescue, and despite my best efforts, was always a bit plump (she ate much less than her brother). She made it to about 16/17 in the end. Still miss her.

Allergictoironing · 30/03/2023 22:35

Yes O levels were my highest academic qualification, the PM ones were all short courses based on experience.

Just about every Local Government job I applied for (plenty over the last few years) have all had mandatory questions on the on-line forms about where you went to school, what results you got etc. They also often want NVQs in admin type subjects, and sometimes they won't even accept equivalent experience!. Also having spent many years working in the IT industry, I've been asked if I had the European Computer Driving License which is a qualification for basic IT skills; my usual response to that would be to blind them with details on the differences between various packages (often specialist ones like PM ones) and why certain ones were better for different usage.

I've had plenty of written exercises to prove I can write decent English. In one I found more mistakes than that had on their check list. In another, the boss told me where I'd made mistakes when actually I was correct - got that job and had to proof read that boss's formal reports for him.

At least employers seem to have got past "needing" a degree, any degree, to employ someone for an entry level admin role.

TLDR: you can get asked for a lot of irrelevant qualifications where experience is more important anyway. But employers have their check lists, and can be too hidebound to see past them.

RavenT don’t you love it when you see their distant sisters? 😻

My Daisy was a skinny rescue, her being overweight is entirely my fault - I believed RC when they said it was okay for her to eat the Anallergenic food Phoebe’s on (it’s horrendously expensive, so I was hoping to be able to use it for both of them). Nope, she stacked on the weight and has gone on doing so ever since, whether on Hill’s Perfect Weight or Macrobiotic or anything else. I’ll stick with the Pro Plan for the duration of this 3kg bag, and if she hasn’t lost weight by then it’s back to the vet for her. I just hope there’s no other health condition behind this (megacolon is quite enough to deal with tyvm).

RumNotRun · 01/04/2023 00:23

I seem to have acquired a parrot. She either sits like this or across my arm with her head on my boob, which interferes with me Mumsnetting. Help.

A Roman legionnaire in Egypt once kicked a cat and injured it. A huge riot followed this barbarity and many lives were lost.

Sweetpea1532 · 01/04/2023 07:15

@RumNotRun kittykat is adorable...Ill take him/her for awhile so your arm can get a rest.. Your picture is hilarious 😂

Papergirl1968 · 01/04/2023 09:09

Sympathies @RumNotRun . Matt has taken to making biscuits on my boobs. It is excruciating.

RumNotRun · 01/04/2023 10:12

@Sweetpea1532 She is gorgeous but she's a bugger when she wants to sit on you. Like any cat worth their salt, she refuses to take no for an answer so sits where she wants but gets all growly and hissy if you then need to move.

Paper (why does the app only let me tag one person?) Making biscuits on my boobs is another of her favourite tricks. I keep trying to move the sofa blanket so she can claw that but she just moves to get me instead. Bloody cats.

Today - 6:22am 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think he misses me when I'm at work, he used me as a bed for 2 HOURS this morning. I normally get 20 minutes.
