I think I'm a bit in love with Taz. Nothing better than a big black boy cat, and he's very handsome indeed.

Taz is covered in scabs and scratches. He has big chunky cheeks. He's getting used to being indoors and he's pretty good but does have a tendency to pee near doors and on other cats' toys. He just learning to purr. Taz would sell his granny for ham.

We can't keep him, he's ok with other cats, but he'd be much better on his own or with a confident girl cat.

Taz and Pooka are both gorgeous! I do have a soft spot for black panthers.

Raven sends female panther love to GirlCat, she too feels that she is left out as I usually share photos of the boys.

I don't suppose that's a white undercoat I see there on Raven is it? Apparently that's quite rare, and is called smoke black. Girlcat has that, as did her dearly departed brother.

Leroy sends nose-boops to all who agree he's cool. I think he looks like a fat trucker tbh 😂

She just has a little white patch there and some little specks elsewhere. She is a chunky monkey though 😁

They always look a bit chubby in that position, it's the primordial pouch sagging a bit - sort of like boobs slipping under the arms if you lie on your back.

Taz is astonishing, TheLongRider. I knew intact toms grew larger but did not realise just what a difference it could make! Hopefully once he is ready he can find a new home. I was going to type 'become a lap cat' but he might need quite a sturdy owner for that!

Also depends on the cat themselves. Some are just BIG cats, others tiny. Some chunky build and some slinky. Yes they do tend to develop a bit more in some ways due to testosterone, but Taz may just have been going to be a big cat whatever.

One thing that makes a difference when they are done late is face shape, intact toms tend to develop big cheeks which make a cat look bigger & chunkier than it actually is (part of why they develop them).

Dearly departed Boycat was "done" at about 1yo, and was of the lean, sinuous type with no fat, but still topped 6kg before he got ill. Both he and his sister were feral until that age, then a year at the rescue, but still grew a fair bit lengthwards and upwards after coming here at 2 due to good food and general contentment.

Interestingly Boycat didn't have typical tom cat cheeks but a long slim face unlike my newcomer Tobias, who has a very short face and quite large cheeks (neutered at around 2). Tobias's rehoming papers say 4.2kg, but I think he may be a bit more as though he's not as tall or long as Boycat was he's much chunkier built. He definitely looks bigger than Girlcat who's around 4.5kg.

Here is TemporaryCat in a gift basket he's commandeered. He's too small for it but won't listen to me.

What I meant to say of course was the basket is too small not TemporaryCat who is rather broad in the beam. He was glaring at me saying 'my bum DOES NOT look too big in this' and distracted me.

He is - how does he manage that? Our 'black' cats are all reddish-brown.

It's a sun thing. Humans go darker in the sun, black cats go lighter. We would see the same with horses coats. Even my hair (before I had to resort to dye) would go much blonder in summer.
