Anyone else’s cats stopped eating Felix As Good As It Looks?

As both of mine have in the last week or so. I can’t see anything about a recipe change, so it’s a bit of a mystery. They’re really annoying as I feed them and they are still pestering to be fed! Any ideas?

There was a whole thing last year about cats becoming ill on Felix AGAIG, I've not fed mine Felix since. I don't know if it ever came out what had happened, but I wouldn't risk it with mine, one of which has a sensitive tum anyway.

amylou8 · 09/01/2023 18:36

My fussy eater won't eat the box we have at the moment. It's normally what I feed them and she's always been fine. The other two seem happy, but they will literally eat whatever they're given.

SierraSapphire · 09/01/2023 18:53

Hmm. Strange. I’ve tried them on other things previously that they’ve also rejected, but never had a problem with Felix before. I saw the stuff from previously, but it seemed a while ago. They’re still eating the dry food so they won’t starve!

We switched from Felix to Harringyon's after Purina changed the box design (was it new recipe or something?) because B wasn't eating it. She used to love it too. There was a lot of publicity about Felix harming cats, making them ill. Either way, B was put off so we switched.

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 09/01/2023 18:58

*Harringtons

No sorry - but these are boxes that I bought mid-late Nov. However the 1 of my rescue Siamese who eats these was food starved, so when she came to us in May would eat a whole pouch in 5-8 seconds. I dont think she really cared about the recipe! We've kept her on the same brand - 2 per day - she still likes them - mixed flavours - but she now takes 15-20 secs per pouch. So I do hope they havent changed the recipe - she will eat anything or anyone if hangry.

The other rescue Siamese is crunchy only - unless of course the new one is eating pouch - then he'll give it a go. But only from her bowl mind you! And he despite being at least twice her size gets duffed up for the impunity.

Photosymphysis · 09/01/2023 19:18

My old cat went off Felix around October 2021. She lost loads of weight, was identified as having gut inflammation, went onto steroids and recovered a little. She lasted another year and then died before Christmas with some kind of liver failure.

I obviously don't know that it was the Felix. But we cut out Purina food and she got better for a time. She was very old too!

She got really fussy, but latterly she would eat the Republic of Cats foods reliably. They're much more affordable than some of the foods she deigned to eat!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 09/01/2023 19:22

Yes my very elderly Persian stopped eating the senior version over Christmas,I thought she was on her way out but she’s fine again with the normal felix senior, the other cats finished off the senior thou as they’ll eat anything.

SierraSapphire · 09/01/2023 21:37

I’ve ordered some senior so I’ll see if that makes a difference. It must be something about the food as it’s both cats. Otherwise I’ll need to experiment with different brands I guess.

I wouldn't eat that shit either. I suggest some food with actual meat in it, not "meat and animal derivatives". Untamed is good, Pets at Home's Seriously Good brand is affordable and great quality.

Clarich007 · 10/01/2023 13:04

From what I remember, Purina said the only change was that they removed the colouring from Felix as good as it looks. They were challenged on this, but insisted that was the only change.
My rescue cat is grateful for any food, after 2 years living hand to mouth on the streets, but even he is reluctant to eat it now.
We bouvht U tamed and Encore now, and the difference is amazing.
He's much calmer and happier, silky fur and really healthy.
I would try a better quality food.

Clarich007 · 10/01/2023 13:06

Sorry Untamed.

SallyWD · 10/01/2023 13:12

My cat became very ill and was hospitalised at exactly the time when Felix changed their recipe a year or 2 ago. He nearly died. I won't touch it with a barge pole now! Your cats are obviously OK on it though - will they eat anything else?

Jadey31 · 10/01/2023 13:13

Yes!!

My cat is fussy anyway but for the 10 years she's been alive she's always had the Felix tastes as good as it looks. A few months ago she started to not eat it at all (tried dreamies on top and wouldn't touch it) changed to a different one and she loves it! I bulk buy from Costco so took the remaining boxes to the local cat rescue who said they've had a few Felix in so they must of changed the recipe which is annoying - don't they know how particular cats are?!?

Goldpanther · 10/01/2023 13:26

My 5 cats still only eat Felix AGAIL, any flavour but have a preference for the jelly ones.

My oldest cat who has gut problems is fine with Felix, but won't keep other brands down.

Has anything else in your routine/environment changed recently?

SierraSapphire · 10/01/2023 13:32

Nothing else has changed that I can think of. I have tried other brands before and they have been rejected, but I will try some of the food mentioned on here until we get success! Thanks for the suggestions.

DevilinaCardigan · 10/01/2023 13:46

Interesting... our have gone off Felix recently, but I just chalked it up to them being fussy. The seem to regularly go off whatever brand I've been buying. I'll swap them to something else and see what they think.

idrinkandiknowthings · 10/01/2023 13:52

There is a Facebook group concerning this issue. It maintains that all Purina products are making cats ill. I used to feed my cats Felix and also GoCat biscuits but have now stopped buying Purina products completely.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/01/2023 14:19

Our four have always thrived on AGAIL. The only time they have turned up their noses at it was over a year ago when I had a few boxes with pouches made in Russia. Haven't seen any of those pouches for over a year (and yes I check the bottom of the pouches).

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 10/01/2023 14:25

Mine will only eat Felix “doubly delicious” - I’ve tried her with everything including fresh meat and fish (boat to plate!) and she’s just not interested.

I figure since she was found on the streets with a litter of kittens she’s entitled to eat whatever the fuck she likes.

oh. And olives. She likes olives.

SierraSapphire · 10/01/2023 18:25

I’ve not thought of olives, but I do have some in the fridge 😂.

One of them has just eaten Felix senior as soon as I put it down, the other one seems to have decided that it’s not even worth getting out of bed for food anymore 🤷‍♀️.

Squirrelsnut · 10/01/2023 18:32

My 8 year old rescue will eat Felix Original but not AGAIG. Interesting...
Reading this thread makes me want to stop Purina altogether.

Sallylovesdaisy · 10/01/2023 23:07

My cat just stopped eating it, previously wouldn't eat anything else, but she just stopped. It's been about a year now, and it's been hell as she has stomach problems, and just won't eat. We've finally settled on another food after trying virtually everything on the market. I really didn't want her to have anything by Purina, but mistakenly gave her Mon Petit, she scoffed it and has done so for a few weeks now. So far she's ok, but am keeping a close eye on her. There's been a lot of worry and heartbreak that cats were really sick, or were dying as a result of AGAIL. Have to say that those last few pouches I opened for my moggy did smell differant. I threw away about 30 pouches, couldn't bring myself to give it to charity

SierraSapphire · 11/01/2023 07:17

The change last year completely passed me by, I’ve had a lot going on! But it’s weird, it’s only the last box that they objected to and are now eating the seniors AGAIL. Anyway, problem temporarily over and I will try them on some different things that PPs have recommended next time.

Having seen the aforementioned Purina group on Facebook, I dumped Felix and any purina products. I’m not easily led but somethings not right.

Sainsbury’s own brand has done us well
