My lovely boy died tonight

I hope it's ok to post this. I need to tell someone about my lovely old boy. His name was Mr Cooper, a tabby boy who was feral until he wandered into our garden 11 1/2 years ago - we already had 2 female cats at the time. It's a log story, but he became the most gentle, affectionate, special cat I've ever known (we had several over the past 42 years, all rescues). Tonight, he went outside at about 8, as usual (he used to sit on the step, our house is high up from the pavement). A knock came at the door, some very nice lady asked if I was Mrs so-and-so, and told me my boy was dead. He'd been hit by a car outside our house, and someone had taken him to this lady's house, on my street, because she's got a microchip scanner. He'd been killed outright. I went with her to her house, picked him up in a towel, stroked his little face and paws then buried him in a hole my husband dug. I'll miss him SO much.

That's amazing he was such a softie with you. Thank goodness he found you! Growing up, my mother used to feed the feral cats and its amazing how they intuitive they are and know when someone means them no harm. I recently had to move at short notice but at my old place, there was a cat who used to just pop round and visit and have a cuddle. He was so nervous at first. I am not sure who he belonged to, but since moving, I really miss him so much! I hope he is safe and well. 😔 I often think about him.

I hope that gorgeous ginger boy finds someone to take care of him. Our boy took ages to settle with us - he started off coming into our garden, I'd leave food out, about 10 yards away, and he'd eat it quickly before running away. That happened for months until I left a cat carrier with tuna in, then caught him. I took him to the vet's to have an infected leg wound treated. He had to be anaesthetised before they could handle him! He was then neutered and chipped. Once home, he ran off and didn't return for 2 days. When he DID come into the house, I slept downstairs with him for 4 nights as he was terrified of every sound - the 'phone, vacuum, washer, etc. He really was a very special boy
