We were out of space so I thought I'd do the honours

Very proud of DS2. There are signs all over the college with warnings about the college cat's behaviour.
So the (apparently) very grumpy college cat, saw DS2 in the quad today, demanded he sit down and jumped on his lap.

I am not surprised, cats know cat people. My DD has inherited the cat whisperer genes too.

Allergictoironing · 23/10/2022 16:29

I need a bit of a hand hold ladies (and Grumpy). Started what looked like a dream job 3 months ago - and it has turned out to be a nightmare for me. So incredibly stressy, short staffed team so I'm covering for an admin and doing all the management stuff while I'm still learning, have one staff member who hates and resents me & is being passive aggressive. At the same time I've finally just started my MH meds and trying to get used to them while they work out the right dose. Getting in every night exhausted and miserable. Boss is being very good and patient with me, but I can tell she's losing faith in me.

So tomorrow morning I won't leave for my 1hr 15min commute, I will be calling my boss and resigning. I think I have earned just enough leave to cover my probationary notice period. I'm scared, but if I don't leave I'm going to break I think 😪

TheLongRider · 23/10/2022 16:41

Paw hold from here. I hope things improve for you. You're doing the best for you and the cats.

Papergirl1968 · 23/10/2022 20:03

Do the right thing for you.
Is it worth ringing in sick to give yourself a bit of breathing space and a few days to think about it, or would that just prolong the inevitable? It does sound though that resigning will be massive relief, and your mind is made up.
Hugs x

Allergictoironing · 23/10/2022 20:18

Been at the back of my mind for the last week, and spent the whole weekend (including last night until about 3am!) thinking about it. Had IBS, a headache and massively tight shoulders/neck since Thursday, all stress related.

I've spent years slowly building up my confidence & and ability to cope after a major breakdown and I'm not risking another one because I've over faced myself. Thank goodness for the furry little monsters, they've kept me sane the last few weeks 😍

Defiantlynot41 · 23/10/2022 21:00

@Allergictoironing pawhold from us here x

Papergirl1968 · 23/10/2022 21:23

I would do it then. Life is too short to be that stressed and miserable.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/10/2022 00:05

The only time I've resigned from a similar situation was financially a very bad move on my part, but curiously it completely changed the direction of my life in an un-work related way. I started singing again because I had time (unemployment 😮) and as a result music became much more of a focus for me. This resulted in both our children getting involved in music, and now they are both intending to have careers in it.
I don't believe in destiny or fate or anything like that, but I do think that if something is genuinely making you unhappy and you can't change it, then you should move on. With a bit of luck something better will turn up shortly.
As I've got older though, my coping strategy is just to ignore the idiots in the workplace. I do my best, but take the attitude that whatever could possibly go wrong at work, nobody is going to die (probably just as well I don't work in healthcare then!)
So no advice I'm afraid - but definitely a handhold. And if in doubt, cuddle a cat.

Allergictoironing · 24/10/2022 07:43

Well I do work in healthcare, though not directly at the coal face and it's unlikely that I could cause harm but definitely possible.. It's not just the people (well person really), it's the sheer volume & variety of work that my oddly wired brain can't cope with. Maybe 25-30 years ago, I think I would have been fine then, but age & other factors mean I just can't cope.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/10/2022 07:51

I do work in healthcare,
I thought I'd remembered that - hence my proviso.
Hope you're feeling ok this morning and your call in to work isn't too difficult.

Allergictoironing · 24/10/2022 08:31

Call done. Apparently THEY can get rid during probation at 1 week notice, but I'm supposed to give a month. There's no way can I even consider that, having slept last night the best for months the very thought of logging on makes me ill. So official email sent, boss I spoke to will call HR and other boss will call me later. Obviously I'll have to go in to my local office at some stage to return laptop, pass etc, but that's not my "working" office.

I think she wants me to work my notice out, but that ain't happening!

Supersimkin2 · 24/10/2022 11:38

Well done love. Phew. That took guts.

Have a totter round the block to use up some adrenaline and then lie-down and a movie with double cats.

Everyone’s had appalling jobs - you only know what they’re like when you do them, even so-called dream jobs. Smart move to get out quick.

coastergirl · 24/10/2022 12:17

Well done for doing what's right for you.

Well done Allergic! Sleeping better last night shows you made the right decision.

PollyCreo · 24/10/2022 21:01

Rosie is devastated. Her 'grandparents' have abandoned her after a two week visit - she was literally in heaven after a fortnight of clambering all over them and purring in their faces. They did kindly bring a fleecy LFC blanket but as you can see, she's not impressed 😾

Well done, Allergic!

Still thinking about you, Fluffy (and Puddy).

PeloFondo · 25/10/2022 20:35

Ollie is sulking
I told him it's a Halloween costume and high viz

Just booked Boycat ion to see the V. E. T. next week. Nothing really urgent, just a lot of niggly little things.

I think he's lost weight - feeling a bit bony round the hips & he feels a little lighter when I pick him up.
He's always been a "good" drinker, but I think he's probably drinking more than he used to. Certainly ONE of them is, and I think it's him.
He may have an ear infection. He's always liked hard rubs at the base of his left ear, but suddenly the right is his preferred. Plus I'm cleaning it out regularly but that ear seems to be grungier than usual, and the residue seems damp rather than waxy.
He's always liked the base of his whiskers rubbed, but he does seem to want the left done more. This could well be me overthinking though.

So nothing really specific, but lots of little things. He may be fine & it's all helicopter mum syndrome by me. On the other hand he could have an ear infection, dental issues and kidney/bladder issues all at the same time, so better safe than sorry.

The worst part is I have been advised to not feed him that morning as he's likely to need blood tests. Which means taking the food away from BOTH cats as from bed time the night before, as they are grazers and sharers.

LostCats · 26/10/2022 12:02

Ah Allergic, you have my sympathy. When Boone had his tests and we took his food away it’s as a fraught few hours!

LostCats · 26/10/2022 19:24

Well the Molly’s Mice were a success!
He’s out cold

Athenajm80 · 26/10/2022 19:39

Lexter loves his Halloween outfit 😁 He is semi naked so I try to give him clothes for when the weather gets colder. He purred a ridiculous amount whilst kneading so I think it was a hit!

Supersimkin2 · 26/10/2022 21:09

Lexter! The chic!

He looks really snuggly too.

nettie434 · 26/10/2022 22:16

I'm impressed with the cat Halloween outfits and the bandanas. I am sure you have made the right decision for you, Allergic. A good boss would have picked up some hints things were not great for you. Hope Boycat's trip to the vet goes ok too.

PeloFondo · 26/10/2022 23:53

Ollie just made me cry (I have a kidney infection and hormonal)
Heard him crying so I got up to check him and he knocked a cushion off, breaking the bauble on his teepee and he couldn't get in it as the cushion was blocking it
Cleared it all up and he just sat there purring happily at me and blinking
