I have wrapped him in a blanket and have put him in a box, but it’s Sunday and I don’t know what to do now. Can anyone help with next steps?

am in bits but trying to be practical :(

I'm afraid I don't know what the procedure is OP, but I just wanted to send you my condolences for your lovely cat. I'm so sorry Flowers

Hotandbothereds · 21/08/2022 08:48

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this, what a terrible shock for you.

I’m sorry I have no idea of the practicalities but I hope someone who can help on that front comes along soon.

YoSofi · 21/08/2022 08:49

I am so very sorry about your lovely cat Flowers

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 21/08/2022 08:49

I'm so sorry, its horrible finding a beloved pet like that. When it happened we stored the body as cool as possible in the shade and then took it to the vet to be cremated the next day, or you could bury in your garden if you like? Would need to be deep enough so they don't get dug up. Hope you are doing ok, xx

Errent · 21/08/2022 08:51

I’m so sorry. This happened to me a few years back, it’s awful. Such a shock.

In practical terms, I was lucky and had the space to burry her in the garden. If that’s not an option I would suggest either calling your vet to ask for advice, I’m sure even out of hours will be helpful. They might help organise that (mine did for my dog who died on a bank holiday Monday) or Googling for a pet crematorium/cremation service near you. They are usually 24/7.

Im so sorry for your loss.

Workinghardeveryday · 21/08/2022 08:52

What a terrible shock. I am afraid I don’t know the procedure either.

I hope you are okay, I am so sorry for your loss xxx

I am so sorry OP

KittyCatsby · 21/08/2022 08:53

I'm sorry you've had to deal with this , a terrible shock to find them.
Do you want to bury in your garden or have cremated?
If bury then once you feel able . If cremation , you might find a local one you can contact yourself or your vet will act as a go through.
If they are not about today , put him somewhere cool and out of the way , a garage perhaps.
Once again sorry for your loss.

minticecreamisjustok · 21/08/2022 08:54

Sorry to hear that, the vets will have an emergency line open, they should hopefully take the body in. One Easter Sunday of all days my cat died and they took him in.

User287264 · 21/08/2022 08:54

I'm so sorry. thats my worst nightmare. Well done for getting him wrapped up and safe. I would have found that hard.

Phone your vet, they will have a 24 hour emergency line. There will be somewhere you can take him today if you're not able to keep or bury him at home.

MrsMitford3 · 21/08/2022 08:55

Call your vet-they should have an out of hours number-they will help you.

So sorry!

Grumpypants78 · 21/08/2022 08:55

I'm so sorry hon💐💐💐 xx

Popplebop · 21/08/2022 08:55

I am so sorry to hear this. It is devastating. My lovely boy died on a Sunday earlier in the year. I wrapped him in his blanket and put in a box in the alley (cool) as we didn’t want to bury him in the garden. I then called my vet first thing on Monday and they were amazing - I was able to take him in and they sorted a cremation- I just didn’t feel able to arrange it myself.
Again so sorry for your loss x

Battlecat98 · 21/08/2022 08:58

Some great advice here. We were fortunate to be able to bury my dcat in the garden. I am so sorry about your dcat it's just awful. Take care of yourself.

ChangingStates · 21/08/2022 08:58

Thank you for your messages and kind words, he was such a lovely boy, very soppy and quite neurotic. We got him and his brother at 8 weeks, wanted two as kids at school and I work so wanted them to have be company for each other and feel so sad that brother will be on his own now.

it’s so warm I am worried about keeping him until tomorrow, have found a local vet hospital that is 24 hours and answer phones from 9am so going to call and see what they advise.

Oh, how awful. So sorry, OP. Have you got a garden to bury him in? Or a friend or relative who would do it?

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 21/08/2022 09:01

I am sorry you have lost your lovely furry boy. x

There is nothing to stop you burying him in the garden

If you want him cremated, I would wrap him in an old blanket/towel and put him somewhere cool shed/garage until Monday and then contact the vet for advice.

Hallmark1234 · 21/08/2022 09:04

I'm so sorry for your loss.

The number of cats run over is absolutely heart breaking!

maddiemookins16mum · 21/08/2022 09:06

Oh how sad, what a lovely boy.

NeedMoreMilk · 21/08/2022 09:07

What a beautiful cat, I’m so sorry.

You could call the vet if you’re not wanting/able to bury him in the garden. The last time I lost a pet I took her there and they arranged a private cremation so I got the ashes back. I imagine it cost more to do it through them, but it meant we didn’t have to drive to the pet crematorium and back. We did take her the next day (was also a Sunday) but it was in the Autumn so much cooler than now.

However our local pet crematorium is open on a Sunday (apparently it’s 24 hours) so yours might be too if you wanted to deal with them directly.

YoSofi · 21/08/2022 09:07

What a beautiful boy.

I hope the vets can help x

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 21/08/2022 09:24

Really very sorry about your cat.
Practically (given how warm it is), if you can put his body in the freezer and then take him to the vet tomorrow, they will be able to arrange cremation.

MinervaTerrathorn · 21/08/2022 09:29

He was a beautiful cat, I love black cats. So sorry for your loss 💔.

I lost my black girl cat last year and brought her home and buried her in a pillowcase in the garden.

eyeoftheworld · 21/08/2022 09:54

Independent pet crematoriums should be contactable today, give them a call and they will help you. I don't want to be too upsetting, but if you want to keep the ashes, it would be better to do this than go through a vet, as many vets deal with a big firm that does mass cremations, rather than individual. It's something that's very important to me, so I thought it worth mentioning.

So sorry for your loss.

TheOGCCL · 21/08/2022 10:31

So sorry for your loss, this is imo one of the most devastating things that can happen to someone. In time hopefully it may be some comfort you were able to find him and lay him to rest.
