Is everyone else’s cat being a dick about coming in at night right now?

My girl is being a complete pain. She comes in for dinner and then is out again. Normally she’d be straight in for supper before bed but now she’s being an arse. Last night she sat in next door’s garden knowing that I could see her but couldn’t get her. Now I can’t even find her. Pain in the arse.

Yes. Just got the pair in. I share your pain

BlueKaftan · 12/08/2022 22:43

I think it’s the weather. My girl refuses to come inside despite it being cooler. Last night she pounced on me relentlessly for food. They get bonkers when their routines are disrupted.

largeprintagathachristie · 12/08/2022 22:46

I remember mine being an arse about coming in on hot summer nights.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 12/08/2022 22:48

I refuse to come in atm, currently sat in the garden it is gorgeous. So I'm with your cat.

ozymandiusking · 12/08/2022 22:49

Our boy is out and anything from 4am to 6am sit on my husbands windowsill and meows to come in. So DH has to go down to let him in. The window is only a top opening. We do make sure that there is a saucer of fresh water by the back door though. It's a good job we love them isn't it?

PriamFarrl · 12/08/2022 22:59

I have a dish of water outside right now for all visiting animals as we get hedgehogs, frogs, lizards and snakes.
I’m going to go back out in a second and see if I can get the bugger.

Yes. We've just accepted that she might like us again come winter.

MustDust · 12/08/2022 23:05

Yep, she normally only goes out to do her business then comes back in and scowls at us for refusing to let her have indoor facilities. She's hardly in the house at the mo (still won't leave the garden mind!). She has a cat flap so no bother but it's very unusual for her.

RavenT · 12/08/2022 23:06

Yep. So frustrating.

He currently has a healing abcess which was done by another cat during one of these warm nights last week, so despite his protestations he 100% has be in by our bedtime.

FlipFlopBattle · 12/08/2022 23:13

Yep! He's meant to be shut inside from dinner time, but in hot weather turns into some sort of Houdini and has been known to squeeze out of the smallest top-window opening.

Then has fun doing God-knows-what outside until ~4am, when he either sits on the utility room roof (which is right below our bedroom window) meowing until we let him in, or if it's a warm night and the windows are already open, just hops in, has a fight with the roller blind, bats the curtains around until he finds an opening, and kind of falls into the bedroom. Gave me a heart attack the first time he did it...

JoanOgden · 12/08/2022 23:33

Yes, she fecks around outside for hours at this time of night. Last night I was just dropping off when I heard the most godawful yowling and had to go outside and drag her in before she came to blows with the neighbour's tabby.

minou123 · 12/08/2022 23:39

Yes!
Same in this house too.

Every night I call them in and every night we go through the same palaver.

They both stare at me with that look of "are you mad women? We have not finished playing"
And then I beg them to cone in and tell them I want to go to bed and I don't want them to wake me at 2am to be let in.

They continue to stare.
I get the dreamies
They sprint back into the house.

Ole99 · 13/08/2022 01:08

No mine has decided the air con unit DH was “persuaded” to buy is bliss and is now in all day and night only moving from it to get fed and pop out for business. He’s still insisting on having a blanket to lounge on though.

EachandEveryone · 13/08/2022 01:16

Yep mine are the same. Im in a flat so leave my door open abit and the neighbour does the same for her madam. I cant lock it as im frightened the will poo in the mutual hallway. They are usually in asleep by the time i get up for my 3am wee. Ive stopped worrying about it or Id never sleep.

PeloAddict · 13/08/2022 01:25

Mine has been out all day, baking hot. He looked so unwell I had to ring the local cat woman to come and help me get him as he ran off
Got a thorn in my hand and sunburn and no sodding cat. He eventually came in and I've spent the evening spoon feeding him water as he's overheated himself
What did I get for it? This face

Mine is out all day and night at the moment. He only comes in for breakfast when he knows DD will be about to give him treats. Immediately after he buggers off but then insists of popping up everytime single time I go outside to demand belly rubs.

Of course on the day I was due to take him to the vets the little fucker was nowhere to be found.

MidnightMeltdown · 13/08/2022 02:11

Girl cat lives outside in the warm weather. She comes in about twice a day and screams at me for food, then disappears again.

I've been giving them a small drop of milk, diluted in lots of water during the heatwave. Seems to keep them hydrated.

Twawmyarse · 13/08/2022 02:42

Next doors cat just gave me the fright of my life - I'm home alone and was locking up when it shot out of the garage like it's arse was on fire! The little knobhead.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/08/2022 05:37

It's not unusual in this heat for one or two of ours to be 'dirty stop outs' at the moment. Since they are flopping around the house during day, staying out at night when it's cool sounds very appealing.

ToxicCuntMum · 13/08/2022 05:45

@PeloAddict that’s a great face

OP if you’re not posting at midnight your cat is not a hardcore dirty stop out. Voice of experience

applegrumbles · 13/08/2022 06:39

Mine seems to have gone bonkers as well. And DH had to rush out yesterday and stop him trying to walk on hot concrete outside.

Iwantcollarbones · 13/08/2022 06:49

One of mine is now living in the front garden. The hot house isn’t helped by MIL who keeps turning the heating on. I think I might join him.

AnnaMagnani · 13/08/2022 06:54

Yes. Got home late so cat now thought hunting was more fun than his dinner.

Got dragged in with help from a neighbour shooing him along.

Heating?! In this weather? Is she mad?

Cervinia · 13/08/2022 07:01

Yup, me too. One I’m happy to leave out as she’s stayed out for years at night, but as she’s got older (16 now) she’s a bit more receptive to coming in. The other one is an idiot so I like him to come in, he’s a nightmare right now and all black so impossible to see.

he wants to spend the night watching bats and catching mice and moths. I know if he saw our nightly foxes and badgers he would be terrified, the old girl just sits and looks at them.

I’ve been feeding mine later and then making them stay in.
