The size of the average male moggie

Are male moggies usually larger than females? Most of the cats I've known have been female, and the 2 or 3 males I've known have been larger than them. MrCat is 6.6kg.

Depends on when they are neutered iirc but generally yes. They can be huge compared to females!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/07/2022 09:15

My boy didn't get his bits removed until he was about a year old. He is huge.

MsOllie · 08/07/2022 09:17

My male cat is dinky, 3.2kg

Antarcticant · 08/07/2022 09:18

Mine is enormous - he's overweight and on a diet but more than twice the weight of my girl cat and about 1/3 again in his length. Last time he was weighed he was 8kg! He's also incredibly muscular and strong - it's a real struggle to get him into a basket as he's strong enough to kick himself out of my arms.

JazzyBBG · 08/07/2022 09:19

In my experience normally yes. I've had one very long/tall female who was slim. Had several big fat boys but never a fat girl! I think boys are greedier and tend to go round other peoples houses scavenging more.

Svara · 08/07/2022 09:19

Boy that was neutered at 2 is 4kg, boy who was neutered at 6 months is a dainty 3.5kg. Both underfed at previous home prior to rescue though.

Akite · 08/07/2022 09:21

My boy cat is dinky too, 3.5 kg. My girl cat is even tinier, she's only 2.8kg. She's quite podgy though even though she's very small whereas boy is sleek and slim.

Nugg · 08/07/2022 09:21

I have 2 boys, one is a moggy 3.5Kg and the other is 6.5Kg but Norwegian Forest and always are big beautiful cats. They are both approx 11 years old and as fit as a fiddle!

Ours is about 3.5kg but the girl cat is much smaller

AnnaMagnani · 08/07/2022 09:21

Mr B is 6kg of solid muscle and generally acknowledged by the vet as a big boy.

007DoubleOSeven · 08/07/2022 09:24

Not necessarily. I've had over a dozen cats if you tot them all up, both male and female and while some Queens have been petite I've also had many a petite tom and big boned queen too.

I think its more to do with each cays genetic build.

The longer a Tom remains unneautered though, the larger he will be.

BudgetTarzan · 08/07/2022 09:38

Mine is over 6kg, the girls are 3.5kg. He was neutered at 12 weeks ish. He is relentless in his quest for more food though. He'll walk around doing the entire tom fuck me howl if his food bowl is slightly less than full.

SagelyNodding · 08/07/2022 09:41

Mine is 6kg and definitely not fat! He is a tall and long moggy, castrated at 6 months. Compared to the only female cat I have had, he is huge!

TheMousePipes · 08/07/2022 09:54

Our boy was neutered late before we got him from Cat’s Protection. He’s an 8.5 kg beast. He is rather portly, but also incredibly strong and his chest is double the width of his not inconsiderable head.
He’s a beaut. He also hates having his photo taken.

Dinky boy. He was neutered late too. Vet says he has the build to be much bigger but just... isn't. And he eats like a horse

My Tom (neutered) is well over 6kg but looks slim. Vets are always shocked and when weighing him, take him off the scales and check it. He's a total thug, eats his kills daily and my two neighbours keep treats for him. Our male farm cats were always bigger and heavier but the females always seemed to get the hanging tummy.

Freeasabird76 · 08/07/2022 10:19

6.5kg of fluff buttery solid and heavy,he was neutered at 8 months as vet said to let him get some testosterone as he was such a scared cat,he now terrorises the street.my Queen is only 2.5kg.

My dear cat was 5kg and we always called him chubby cat.
When we moved house he got very anxious and caused his fur to matt very badly so we had him shorn and he looked tiny! He was very greedy and the vet siad he should be below 5kg but his actual body seemed quite lean to me beneath all that fur. Before and after pics

My cat was a big Norwegian Forest Cat - weighed 10.5kg when he died and he was not overweight - I miss that cat so much! I couldn't, partly still can't, look at pictures of him - still upsets me - and that was just over 4 years ago.

larkstar · 08/07/2022 13:07

Sorry no 10.5kg was my dog when I first had her, 8.5kg was my cat.

Dilbertian · 08/07/2022 13:08

I don't know when MrCat was neutered. We adopted him when he was 10yo. He's a totally timid softy, except when there's an other cat around. But even then he's all posture and only a little bit of fight.

He's got the hanging tummy flap, but there's nothing in it any more, not since we made the poor bastard go on a diet as soon as he arrived.
