Tell me about your cats weird quirks *light hearted*

Hi all,

We bought a ragdoll cat about four years ago when she was a kitten and I've never really thought about it before but actually she has this really weird quirk where if you want to stroke her it has to be with your feet (grim) she absolutely under no circumstances will let you stroke her with your hand, she actively seeks out your feet and will rub herself all over them which is a bit annoying at 5am when she's digging under the covers meowing so she can get some feet love Grin I've never really thought about it before but this morning she did it to my 1 year olds feet so I think she's finally accepted him into the family. I can't say why she doesn't like hands, I got her from a reputable breeder and she's been with us since she was 12 weeks old so hasn't been mistreated in anyway, she's just a bit odd! But we love her all the same.

On the other hand we have a six year old stray rescue and he loves hands and is definitely a lot less weird than she is.

Does your cat have a weird quirk too?

That is so cute about your 1 year old!

One of mine likes to meow at me until I follow him to the litter trays and hang about while he picks one. Google tells me this is something to do with him feeling ‘safe’ so I guess I am his poo wingwoman.

Heartofglass12345 · 18/06/2022 00:53

I have one cat that miaows at me in the mornings when I'm working, until I put the footstool next to my desk so I can make a fuss of him, he stays for about 5 minutes then goes off to do his own thing lol. He also licks my arm if I ignore him which is so cute.
I have another one who scratches anything but the litter after she's used the litter tray, she also loves lying on bags and shoes Grin

BrylcreamBeret · 18/06/2022 00:56

Your kitty is a foot pervert, I love it 😁 My cat is a nutter, she eats raw vegetables straight out of the shopping bag/fruit basket and carries a pompom around in her mouth whilst crying because she cant find it. She also likes to be buried in piles of clean washing and will sleeping said piles. My other girl is a black and white tux who only loves me (Well she loves me best) and sleeps on my head. I once had a boy cat who did a weird purr/dribble/sniffle on my earlobes, I think he thought I was his mummy.

MsOllie · 18/06/2022 00:59

He shouts constantly. At me, in the mirror, at other cats Confused
He doesn't hunt/catch anything and will watch spiders run over his paws and sit right next to birds
He has to use a litter tray and refuses to even wee outside
He cuddles me constantly or head bops me or demands kisses
He does these adoring gazes

I'm not actually sure he's a cat Grin

Isaidnoalready · 18/06/2022 01:21

I have a foot fetish cat too he does like hands but if you have showered he rolls and rolls on your feet and dribbles

Mine are all brothers I have one (thinner than the other two) who actively picks fights with his brothers then when they start winning runs off screaming for me to spray his brother took me ages to work out he isnt in trouble as such he is just LOSING

the fat one will start eating his food then stare down his brothers to get theirs also will clean their plates and yet never finish his own

Heartofglass12345 · 18/06/2022 01:37

I forgot as well the one who likes shoes and bags steals my sons small soft toys during the night and stashes them in the bathroom Grin

Heartofglass12345 · 18/06/2022 01:37

@MsOllie that is a look of pure love, I love cats

WhackingPhoenix · 18/06/2022 01:39

All three of mine follow me to the bathroom and at least one of them will use the litter tray (next to the toilet) while I’m on the toilet. Synchronised bodily functions Smile

The eldest will then climb on my back, the middle one sits at my feet shouting and the smallest climbs on my back, all while I am still on the toilet.

The eldest is also partial to being carried in the hood of a back-to-front hoodie (like a baby in a sling!)

The middle one is the reason we have childlocks on the cupboard where we store our kitchen bin as he will open it and climb inside it.

All three are scared of the cat flap and won’t use it, yet will position themselves menacingly on the stairs because the dog is afraid of passing them.

Living with three cats is akin to daily negotiation with cute, fluffy terrorists.

I have hundreds of him looking at me like that

Cats protection (who I adopted him from) "that cat is ridiculous. I want him, give him back" Grin

@WhackingPhoenix you just reminded me, I used to live in a house share with a girl who had 2 cats, I had 1. Her cats were really nervous and wouldn't let me smooth them, but one of them would always follow me into the bathroom and sit on my lap while I was having a wee Grin weirdo haha

Heartofglass12345 · 18/06/2022 01:44

@MsOllie awww so sweet, my cat looks at my husband like that lol. She went into season when we first had her and she had a thing for men but especially him, and used to roll around on his slippers when he was out Grin she's not so bad now she's been spayed lol. Also likes to pick fights with dogs, she's tiny!

MsInsomniac · 18/06/2022 01:46

Ours loves chlorine and will spend ages licking the kids hair after they’ve been swimming. If she can’t get their hair she will lick my feet.

Onedayatatime24799 · 18/06/2022 01:55

My cat plays "fetch the bottle lid". I'll throw it for him, he'll run after it and bring it back to me in his mouth where he'll drop it at my feet.
I'm sure he was a dog in a previous life!

sashh · 18/06/2022 02:01

Mine has loads.

When she first descended on me she liked to hunt my feet and wrap her paws around an ankle.

She sleeps in odd places, on the radiator, on a bookshelf, on my computer tower, on the Sky box, wrapped round the slow cooker, on me while I'm trying to sleep.

Awww. I have two cats, one looks remarkably like yours, her superpower is loud annoying meowing & she likes to get under the duvet with me and roll around and be cuddled. The old one is an enthusiastic licker, unfortunately his breath stinks.

@MsOllie !

Want2beme · 18/06/2022 11:08

One of mine waits for me to come out of the bathroom every night, asks me for hugs & kisses, after which she likes to be wheelbarrowed😆 (I don't hold her by her back paws, but around her hips). How do we discover these quirks🤷‍♀️🤗

MsopOllie My old cat wouldn't budge an inch to catch a bird. I remember one landing right in front of him and he just moved his paw slightly before the bird flew off😬

Want2beme · 18/06/2022 11:17

MsOllie!

LaQuern · 18/06/2022 11:35

@MsOllie no one will ever look at you the way your cat does. He luffs you sooooo much and bigs you up to all the other cats in the area

Iwantcollarbones · 18/06/2022 11:37

One of my cats will only drink from the dogs water bowl and even then he first has to get his paws into it. He only drinks whilst standing in the bowl.

My other cat will meow and scratch at any door to be let in but when you open the door, she will look around the newly created space like ‘woah, where did it go?’. Every time.

Beamur · 18/06/2022 11:46

One of mine loves the smell of DD. She finds it kind of weird. If she puts worn clothing out to wash where the cat can get it, said cat will go a bit crazy - like it's catnip. If it's a bit whiffy, even better.
Same cat has a little bedtime routine and makes sure everyone is in bed before she retires to her sleeping spot on top of the wardrobe.
One of my other cats has a ten minute window for fuss daily and will sit by my feet and shout at me until I pick her up. She then nose boops me and furiously pedals her paws into my neck and hair while purring and dribbling...I can only take such intensity for a few minutes! She then curls up and sleeps all day.
My late cat was so funny. He was like a toddler in cat form. When sleepy he would sit in front of me holding his paws in the air while swaying gently, asking for a cuddle, he would then snuggle into your shoulder and go to sleep.

Anonaymoose · 18/06/2022 11:47

My cat does this weird tail shudder and lifts one hind leg up when she's excited to see me. I'm a vet nurse and I've never seen another cat do it, well the tail shudder isn't that unusual but no idea why she holds her leg up Confused. She's my wee weirdo.

Piggypiggyoinkoink · 18/06/2022 12:04

Greets me when I come home from work by playing dead in the hall. Gets resurrected by petting until she jumps up and does a quick zoom circuit of the house.

Fetches her (absolutely manky) piece of string when she wants to play and drops it at my feet.

Licks the armpits of anything I have worn before it goes into the washing machine.

Must bite the grooming brush before it is used on her. Every. Single. Time.

I accept this as normal!

Isaidnoalready · 18/06/2022 13:20

I did traumatise my cat yesterday I brushed him on the upstairs window and threw the fur out the window rather than putting it in the bin he freaked and tried to follow it! He seemed incredibly upset and distressed by it and now watches what I do with the fur he stood infront of the window today preventing me from opening it weirdo

Mabelface · 18/06/2022 13:29

Mine high fives you on demand. He knows what "come on then, sit" and "no" means. He'll also shake paws for dreamies.
