Tell me about your cats weird quirks *light hearted*

Hi all,

We bought a ragdoll cat about four years ago when she was a kitten and I've never really thought about it before but actually she has this really weird quirk where if you want to stroke her it has to be with your feet (grim) she absolutely under no circumstances will let you stroke her with your hand, she actively seeks out your feet and will rub herself all over them which is a bit annoying at 5am when she's digging under the covers meowing so she can get some feet love Grin I've never really thought about it before but this morning she did it to my 1 year olds feet so I think she's finally accepted him into the family. I can't say why she doesn't like hands, I got her from a reputable breeder and she's been with us since she was 12 weeks old so hasn't been mistreated in anyway, she's just a bit odd! But we love her all the same.

On the other hand we have a six year old stray rescue and he loves hands and is definitely a lot less weird than she is.

Does your cat have a weird quirk too?

(The front door sadly isn't an option as the steps are slightly different to walk down and she can't work them out). She has no mobility problems, her eyesight is fine. I took her to the vet more than once as she also can't lie on hard horizontal surfaces like windowsills without falling off from a stationary position. Beds and sofas are fine.

The vet checked her thoroughly and the professional diagnosis was she's just not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

One of my cats drinks by cupping his paw and dipping it in the water bowl
My make juveniles like to sleep in the dirty washing basket
Female cat hisses and chunters to herself, she hates the boys - it's hilarious seeing her, like a grumpy old woman

Oh my littlest does this too! It's so cute to watch! She has a water fountain and she also has a great game where she dips her paw in and shakes it at you 😂

Bless her little heart🤗

I have to spoon feed lik-e-lix to our girl. She gets some twice a day with her medication crushed into it, and although she loves the stuff, she won’t eat it straight from the bowl or plate, so I have to spoon feed with a metal spoon. This is the day that will loves to drink from the plastic tub we keep outside for her that’s got all sorts floating in it 🙄

Basil won't come downstairs in the morning until he has been through his routine. Firstly he repeatedly bites any available fingers or toes (while purring loudly). He then waits at the end of the bed and miaows at Mrs Grumpy to play with him with her dressing gown tie.
He's about 12 - still acts like a kitten in the morning.

He shouts at the stairs. Really sweet-hearted loving cat most of the time but a few times a day he goes to the foot of the stairs and gives them a right telling-off.

DD’s cat regularly opened her fridge to steal chicken breasts! She had to fit a child lock, despite having no children.
My own Madam is a psychopath who believes revenge is best served cold. When displeased with the lack of Dreamies one evening, she waited til I’d gone to bed, then caught and disembowelled a mouse. Having eaten the mouse, she carefully decanted the pile of intestines into my slippers, ready for me to put my bare feet into in the morning….

It has been a rough weekend for me but this thread has put a big smile on my face hearing about how everyone's cats have them wrapped around their little paws!!
I am an absolute slave to my little boy but l wouldn't have it any other way!

Boy cat follows anyone into bathroom and howls for the tap to be run so he can drink. Stands within distance of the shower spray howling until I come remove him manually. Doesn't have the brains to move himself. Howls all the way to the vets and in the waiting room scaring other pets including dogs. They knew straight away he was half Siamese 😂

His gentle sister on the other hand lays on me at every opportunity.

My one will not eat until she has received an adequate amount of strokes and cuddles. If we put her bowl down and walk away she will follow us and flop on our feet as if to say excuse me you’ve forgotten my hugs. Sometimes she wants me to sit with her while she eats. If I walk away she herds me back to bowl.😳

My husband & I cannot go to the toilet without her. She could be fast asleep but as soon as we switch on the bathroom light and she hears the extractor fan she races in to accompany us.

She is obsessed with the freezer. Whenever we open the door she is there sitting in front of it or sticking her nose against the cold drawers.

Bernard likes to sleep on his back displaying the place where his little balls used to live…

Is my cat the only cat who won't eat when someone else is in the same room as her? When she wants to eat, we have to leave the kitchen or she just won't eat. I do find it quite odd. I've never seen her eat - not allowed to!

thenewduchessoflapland · 19/06/2022 12:48

Mine is a crisp fiend;anyone opens a packet of crisps and she's there;she especially loves prawn crackers.I have to point out if she's given any it's a small piece broken off a singular crisp.

Want2beme · 19/06/2022 16:28

She likes to share my bookmarks. She actually LOVES them!

Yep, afaik, your cat is unique in this respect. DCat winds around my ankles for a taste of everything I appear to be consuming, from oranges to antihistamines. We have had a few stand-offs of the 'You don't eat custard, see? Oh you do,' kind.

My 8 month old kitten is very adventurous and loves to go out but has to come back every half an hour for reassurance and to suck my fingers which she will seek out with her paws. Then I have to kiss her face before she'll go out again.
