Just that really. My mum would like a cat/ kitten. Her last one was a rescue, is this where most people get them from?

Shes hasn’t got a particular kind/ look in mind. Just a friendly one to keep her company.

We got our two from a rescue. That’s the best place to get them from.

Lizzieismagic · 11/06/2022 20:42

Local FB page had an ad from local CPL fosterers. Cost me £30 with free neutering.

Pyewhacket · 11/06/2022 20:43

Stray who had her kittens at the stables but Gumtree is quite good.

AwkwardPaws27 · 11/06/2022 20:43

RSPCA (Central & NE London branch). He's brilliant.
£95 adoption fee, which included neutering, vaccinations, microchip, health check, 4 weeks pet insurance (to cover us until we arranged our own policy), and he was deflead and dewormed.

Cats Protection league. Done that twice now.

GingerFigs · 11/06/2022 20:44

Local cat rescue (5 different cats over 30 years).

PollockSandwich · 11/06/2022 20:45

Always got ours from the Cats Protection League. I've also been looking at them recently for my mum wants an older one to keep her company and just snooze next to her. They have loads in, especially if your mum is willing to take an older one, lots whose owners have passed away.

please don’t buy animals from gumtree.

mine was a rescue. Had been used for breeding - kittens no doubt sold on gumtree and the like 🙄- and was an absolute mess. Hadn’t been outside one room her entire life, very little interaction with humans. Dumped at 18 months old once she was no longer useful.

there are loads of cats in rescue. Smaller local ones or breed specific are always worth a look.

Bluebellbike · 11/06/2022 20:48

Local Rescue both times. The rescue was next door. 1st cat just moved in with us the we got a second from there.

Antarcticant · 11/06/2022 20:51

Cats' Protection for my boy, and my girl was from Yorkshire Cat Rescue.

WithASpider · 11/06/2022 20:52

RSPCA for 3, shop window ad for 1.
Next ones will come from a local rescue.

GreatCrash · 11/06/2022 20:52

Local cat rescue

DontKeepTheFaith · 11/06/2022 20:53

Local rescue center.

Best thing we ever did, our Dcat is such a part of our family now and I am so pleased we have been able to give her the life she deserves but didn’t have before.

SanFranBear · 11/06/2022 20:57

I've rehomed twice from friends - one who took on a stray which hated her existing cat and the other from a friend's mum who was suddenly travelling so much, it wasn't fair on him being in the cattery so often (also a previous rescue).

My current two were kittens from a friend's cat... not ideal but she has now spayed her cat and has kept all the other kittens. I did say I would look at another rescue as well (cats are the best!) but I'm not doing the introduction bit again - and my two were littermates who were only separated for a month!

Four Paws Cat Sanctuary. A fabulous sanctuary putting cats and families together. X

MayBeee · 11/06/2022 21:04

Our kitten came from a rescue. Her mother was found young , pregnant , and living under a hedge. The rescue fosters out their cats to volunteers homes. We visited our kitten from a very young age before they came home to us .

TheFluffiestCat · 11/06/2022 21:04

Fluffy one and the late lamented big black bitey one from CPL. Good little cute one came from a neighbour who couldn't keep her. Previous cat came from a local independent rescue.

User3456 · 11/06/2022 21:05

We've had 7 cats altogether. Two kittens from a friend of a friend, four rescues, one stray (we tried to find if he was lost and had a home but no luck). I would honestly say rehome from a rescue. You'll get them already vet checked, flea treated and vaccinated. And they usually come with a months free insurance too. The kittens we got off a friend of a friend we realised later were full of fleas and too young to be away from their mum really as well. Please don't buy off gumtree - it feeds into the problem of people breeding cats for profit when rescues are bursting at the seams. Rescues will also be able to advise personality wise whether a particular cat will suit your mum's circumstances. Thanks to your mum for giving a cat a good home!

dunpaying · 11/06/2022 21:05

Always rescue , so many animals already that need a home

They will be vet checked, vaccinated , neutered and you know your fee will always go to continuing care for other animals

Good luck finding your perfect fur baby

YesItsMeIDontCare · 11/06/2022 21:09

Looked on a website called CatChat at the rescues. Found Leroy's profile, swiped right and matched the rescue was near enough so I called and begged.

He's been with us 5 years now 🥰

agentscully · 11/06/2022 21:14

Thanks everyone for commenting.

We’ll start looking at rescues. Can’t wait!

One was found dumped as a tiny kitten by my friend who happens to work for a cat rescue. She fostered the kitten and then we took her permanently.

The other one was a local stray - we suspect the companion of a local elderly person who had died. After a year of hanging around and us trying to track down an owner with no success, he officially adopted us and we have agreed to accept the situation 😄

Peaceatdawn · 11/06/2022 21:16

A friend who fosters for a cat rescue. She invited me round for a coffee and this little thing was all over me. I left with a cat Grin.
